The Wizard of Oz, as the perfect example of why the public domain is a beautiful thing. The Wizard of Oz has been able to stay relevant for well over 100 years. This is why things should enter the public domain before 100 years. The Wizard of Oz book entered the public domain way back in 1956. That was before they extended the copyrights for things the nearly 100 years they have now. A lot of people (probably trump supporters) think the public domain is bad, because they made a Winnie The pioh horror movie. I literally wrote a comment on a youtube video saying "Popeye the Sailor Man enters the public domain in 2025." And like literal clockwork, the first reply I got was "oH i WoNdEr wHaT BaD HoRrOr mOvIe tHeY'Re gOnNa mAkE Of pOpEyE." And I literally wasted so many braincells trying to explain to them that, that isn't what the public domain actually is. And that it allows anybody the freedom to create anything. But they're such uneducated trump supporters, that they literally think that the public domain means that they make cheap horror movies of them. They actually argued in favor of the public domain, and that copyrights should never expire, so that they dont make horror movies. I wish I was making it up. These are the low-IQ people who voted for trump. I bet the first reply I get on this comment will be someone in favor of things never entering the public domain, so that they can't make a horror movie of it.
There was also a muppet version of wizard of OZ. I don't understand why no veido has this one on their list.
The Muppets are literally included
forgot the bbc program over the rainbow search for dothory
Giving your dogshit low-effort AI channel a fake narrator name doesn't make it not suck.
The wizard of oz is my favorite classic movie the wonderful wizard of oz Can you do Godzilla: history movies and tv series (1954-2024)
You forget the return of oz
Return ro oz is my favorite but the classic wixard of oz is my favorite. The Wiz is also a classic
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles was also an adaptation you should note. John's last name was changed to Baum because Sarah was trying to hide him to save the future and they both loved Baum's books. It got canceled way too early because of a writers' strike screwing with the story, but it was a great show.
'Once Upon a Time' season 3/4 - the Wizard part with Zelena was also amazingly well done!
Wicked might be decent despite controversy yet can never replace Wizard Of Oz lets just leave it at that If you know you know
Great writing and structure, and plenty of information I didn’t previously know. But would it have killed you to use an actual human narrator instead of AI? It was pretty distracting, and even off-putting at times.
Thanks for the compliments! The voice is just a sollution to a problem (not having great audio)
Agreed!
You featured the only WIZ that matters and thats the film version with Diana Ross and Michael Jackson The Wiz live sucked and had no cultural impact or importance to anyone besides musical theater geeks
Mombi
I hate these AI narrated videos
I feel like this video itself is structured well but am annoyed over the AI voice
Appreciate it, I took my time to structure it well and edit it in a good way.
You missed the Rankin Bass TV show on Oz.
AI voice
There is a lot although you forgot whiches of Oz
I think you might of forgot Lion of Oz. Great video though there's a lot of these that hadn't heard of
Appreciate it!
I thinks she's a good actress, but she looks so young for the parts she's playing.
she's 26 man, I think she's fine
@VivienTodd-h5e she looks 12
I read the book, then saw the play, and am now looking forward to seeing the movie. When reading the book, I was thinking it should be made into a movie, and when I saw the play, I knew that it must be made into a movie.
"Wicked" is trash that has nothing to do with any other version of Oz.
I can't wait for the wicked movie ❤
"First prequel in OZ history"? 2003's Broadway depiction of _Wicked_ would predate 2009's _OZ: the Great & Powerful_
In Film and TV I meant
It's MOM-BI (Mom-Bee), not MOM-BI (Mom-Bye).
Definitely feel like Disney should've retooled OTGAP, including making it an animated musical. I think it'd be a lot more memorable.
Great video on all the different versions of Wizard of Oz. My favorites are the Judy Garland classic, the Wiz with Michael Jackson, and Return to Oz.
great video was hoping to see Once Upon a Time
I read all the books when I was a kid.
Shirley Temple hosted an anthology TV series in the late 1950s/early 1960s called "Shirley Temple's Storybook". The first episode of Season 2 was an adaptation of Baum's "The Marvelous Land Of Oz". It aired in September of 1960.
Cool catch, I'll keep it in mind!
Mom-BAI? Beh-LIE-nah? Next time get an actual narrator instead of an AI voice.
Thanks for the hate! Appreciate it!
@@AverageMovieGuyy 🙄 Oh, come on… Look, I’m not at all against AI-in fact, I have avidly defended the use of AI in certain circumstances, such as its utility in assisting people with disabilities, who have long struggled to express themselves via art, music, etc. But using AI to narrate your video and not even attempting to fix the many mistakes that were made in pronunciation, cadence, implications, and otherwise? I’m sorry, but it takes points off from your integrity and causes a large portion of your audience to dismiss it as a low quality content.
@@Kristyle187 Thanks for your opinion, I don't always know what the right pronunciation is myself, so it would give the same issues if I used my own voice. If you think this is low quality content like the AI channels that pump out 5 videos a day you are wrong, I love films, take my time to find good clips and information and edit all myself in order to make a coherent and visually pleasing video.
So a villain in Wizard of Oz is called an Ozhole?
Your pronunciations are atrocious.
It’s not him, it’s an AI voice unfortunately
Wicked is basically a fanfic prequel to the 1939 version.
It’s insanely wild to call a beautiful story, that was drawn from the first book of a series (There are 5) a fanfic. Beyond insane. This story was actually written by Gregory Maguire, whom at the time of the release was one of my neighbors. I have watched this story become a stage play, then a musical, and then the story of the musical even be edited as they figured a few things out. This story was written 35 years ago, and published almost 30 years ago. It has been on broadway for over 21 years. Now, finally we are getting to see a version that is closer to the book, still giving the stage show credit, with all of the powerful music- including some new songs. Please don’t refer to this as a fanfic. It belittles the (no joke) billion dollar industry that is “Wicked” every year. Nobody is calling it cannon, but it also wasn’t just thrown together like every other film using these characters since the original has been.
What about Dorothy and the witches of Oz movie 2012.
You missed Prime's Lost in Oz too
Good point, Oz has so many projects and some pretty small, might need to do a part 2
@AverageMovieGuyy I was going to mention Lost in Oz as well. As a fan of the books, it really surprised me. I turned on the first episode, expecting to be disappointed, but instead, I really enjoyed the show and the many references to the books. I would definitely recommend it.
@@wattsisnaim8111 I haven't finished the whole series. What do you mean by "references" to the books? Is the show "meta" where the original Oz books and the MGM movie exist in the show's universe?
@ianlove29 Like in the books they have a bit where they visit Utencia, where the people are all kitchen untencels. We see some of them in the show. They have the Deadly Desert from the books. The Water of Oblivion is in the books. And there's a character clearly inspired by Scraps, the Patchwork Girl. Just several things that have you go. "Hey! That was in the books!" But it is done in such a way that if a viewer only knew the 39 film, they wouldn't be lost. No pun intended.
@@wattsisnaim8111 but it's not meta where Dorothy jr. from the show mentioned that she's read the books or seen the MGM film?
You forgot The Marvelous Land Of Oz and The Wonderful Land Of Oz (1969) two forgotten Oz adaptations
@@eamonclark4952 The Wonderful Land of Oz is included in the video and the Marvelous Land of Oz was more of a stage production, hence the exclusion.
You missed The Wiz live NBC and Dee & Friends in Oz from Netflix
Good point, that last one is a very small project though, I skipped some of the really small ones
they talk about the Wiz at the 6 minute mark
@@rogermaves7862this person is referring to The Wiz live from 2015. This video has The Wiz from the 70s. Imo the 2015 one is better in terms of visuals since it’s far more colorful and tries to replicate the stage production that came before the 70s film
@@thewizboy well that’s why I said in my opinion. Yeah I’m not denying the music and dances are great. However let’s not forget the ones who wrote the 70s film are two white dudes, the movie is fairly long, and compared to the Wizard of Oz and the Wiz, I just don’t think the way they did it would hold the interest of kids. Not to mention Diana Ross, although has the vocals, was just not the best pick especially when you know it was gonna go to Stephanie Mills who was both on the broadway version and could still play a child. Ross was in her 30s and made into a kindergarten school teacher who cries nonstop. Maybe it would speak more to college kids but a grown woman’s struggles compared to a little girls hits different. Then there’s the settings which are meant to look like a disheveled New York but that serves as a double edged sword since everything just looks so dull, dry, and colorless. Yes, I can see them maybe reflecting the Black American lifestyle for some, specifically the ugly side, but the live version (which yeah is gonna look limited due to it being on stage and not movie magic), adds more color with the lands, the Khalidas are included, the witches all share these sparkling eccentric dresses, and so on. The biggest offense I’d say is especially them underutilizing Michael Jackson’s dancing in You Can’t Win while in the live Scarecrow jumps from the pole, does some dancing and is thrown back on. Similar with the Tin Man’s song since in the live they space both out while in the film they sing them both back to back which is just why? We already got through one song why dive right into another one so soon with a sudden emotional change? These are just my thoughts on the two and while I’m not saying one is better than the other, especially since both do good things, but the live just feels better with the visuals, Dorothy being a child, and even them subverting things by making the Wizard a woman which could maybeeee be a nod to Baum’s pro women with his books but that’s just me
@@athf4ever780 Nobody cares what you think. The Wiz Live sucked Ass and will NEVER stand the test of time like a Hollywood made version of THE WIZ. All you said makes no difference to me. The film version is BRILLIANT ! age of the character is irrelevant if you actually understand thinking outside the box and life in general as all ages search for self. The Wiz live was total garbage and trash and was done as a holiday special and would only appeal to theater geeks. The film is phenomenal just the way it is. From the entire cast, and those behind the scenes.
You should see the Little Fox version it’s almost identical to the book.
I'll check it out
@ Ozma of Oz was also adapted into an animated tv special with an introduction from Michael Gross.
What about THE WIZ LIVE( 2015)?
I already included the 1978 version so felt a bit useless
@@AverageMovieGuyy at least in the 2015 version Dorothy is younger, lives in Kansas and Oz is more realistic.
Yeah sure, but sometimes differentiation is important
@@AverageMovieGuyythere’s also Lion of Oz, the Witches of Oz, Return of The Wizard, and Guardians of Oz.
@@forrestdupre87 I was trying to keep it to the biggest and most interesting/weird projects, those are some good suggestions for a part two on some of the forgotten OZ projects
Cool
Thanks!
Tom Hardy and Jared Leto should have a movie called Venom versus Morbius
Great idea for the memes
Venom and Morbius should have their very own spinoff television series starring Hank Azaria and Nick Jameson.
No Jared Leto? 🤣
Did you really say Ridley Scott's name, and show a picture of Adam Savage? 12:12
Damn, you are sharp, that slipped right through my fingers!
AI
