HYPERTENSION | Classification | Causes | Complications | Management | Pharmacologic Management
Blood pressure is the pressure exerted by the blood against the walls of blood vessels.
Hypertension is defined as a systolic blood pressure of more than 140 mmHg or higher or a diastolic blood pressure of 90 mmHg or higher.
Hypertension can be classified as:
Essential or Idiopathic hypertension in which the cause in unknown.
Secondary hypertension in which the cause is known.
Malignant hypertension is the hypertension in which blood pressure spikes suddenly.
Types of hypertension include:
Pre-Hypertension,
Hypertension Stage 1,
Hypertension Stage 2.
The causes of hypertension include advancing adult age, alcohol drinking, use of tobacco, stress, sleep apnea, sedentary lifestyle and so on.
Hypertension can be managed by exercising, smoking cessation, lifestyle modification, DASH diet and so on
The nursing diagnosis include:
1. Knowledge deficit regarding the relation between disease process and therapeutic regimen.
2. Noncompliance with therapeutic regimen related to side effects of prescribed medications.
