Please forgive me , I'm not trying to show off ! But I have know J.D. Sumner and the Stamps before the Stamps Quartet ever excited . As much as you enjoyed hearing J.D. hit what is called ( C2 ) , He could go much lower then that . Elvis Presley loved Showing J.D. off . And did you know J.D. and Elvis had been friends longer then either man , Elvis and J.D. had ! Elvis was 13 0r 14 years old when they met . J.D. sometimes could not remember Elvis name , So they called him , '' That Boy '' or That Kid . But what a suprise Elvis had for the Blackwood Brothers , Hovie Lister and the Statesmen and other famous Southern Gospel Music groups . All of whom Elvis loved ! I neglected to say , My father was a SGM producer and I was blessed to know these groups , And travel south Texas in their busses . I was a heart Patient , And unfortunately lost one of my vocal cords during a Emergency Open Heart operation abd a small child . J.D. once heard me talk as low as him and turned and said to me , BOY , YOU NEED TO GO SEE A DOCTOR ABOUT THAT . Understand , J.D. was not trying to be cruel , Tryly , Just loving and concerned . And yes , Jesus throughHis hing power , And the help of a ENT Doctor , fixed my voice made a voice exceptionl , Butt not the same

What an absolutely lovely interview. Certainly despite the gruff exterior he sometimes portrayed, JD was a real true kind hearted gentleman. Although he made people laugh with his comedy stuff deep down and whenever he got serious he always got so emotional. So glad he made peace with the Lord before he left earth as well and I’m sure he’s singing even better now up there with James Blackwood and the rest of them.
