I think it’s interesting how the writers can still build incredible tension in the show even with characters that you know are in Breaking Bad. I was surprised by that.

Such a powerful episode! Mike is so controlled all the time in this show so far and for the most part in Breaking Bad so when he cries about Matty it’s impactful. Jonathan Banks is a terrific actor. Glad you’re enjoying the show!

Here's some random trivia for you: One of the reasons he was disliked at first was simply the fact that his sabbath was Saturday. Most of the other (the religious ones) soldiers took Sundays off and so were not on base to witness him doing double duty the day before. All they saw was him enjoying a day off when they were on duty. Despite that, Doss had won the respect and admiration of his brothers in arms before they even left boot camp. They had gone on a 20 - mile hike in full gear (for soldiers, about 70 pounds. For medics, about 90. Combat medics a few more) and everyone had blisters on the soles of their feet. Doss insisted on treating them all before tending to his own.. They nicknamed him "Preach" (and not Cornstalk) He'd already been in two battles and earned 2 bronze Stars by the time they got close to Okinawa. And contracted tuberculosis in Guam He was malnourished, due to his staunch vegetarianism and in that time, army-food put all the protien in the meat. He supplemented that with any fruit he could find. He DID have to qualify in rifle training before he could be deployed, though...he passed qualification and then promptly returned the rifle. He was also part of the 3 man crew who rigged the cargo nets up. (cuz he was a damn good climber) The cliff was estimated to be 30 feet tall, not 300 ft. Most medics carried a rifle and a pistol, both of which were to be used for self defence only, and FORBIDDEN to carry "weapons of war" That is why it was a war crime to shoot the medics, as they were classified as "non-combatants" and therefore not a threat. As far as I could find, the German army usually respected the red cross...(except when they didn't.) The Japanese, on the other hand, did not. The reasoning goes something like "Wounded men cannot fight in battle against us anymore, but there's a man over there that is helping the injured, and if all the medics help the injured, they will heal and return to battle against us again so SCREW THAT." If a medic used a "weapon of war" against the enemy that is not a direct threat to themselves, they ceased to be "non-combatants" and NOW they were a threat and NOW you could totally shoot them. After he drop-kicked the grenade that mangled his leg, he rolled off the stretcher and insisted they lower another man with a more serious wound first. Then he got shot. (in the arm) He was on the verrrrry front line when that happened, so it was agreed that trying to retrieve him from clear up there again would be too dangerous. So he rescued himself after dark, crawling back some 300 feet to the net on his elbows under the cover of darkness. Why was it too dangerous? ***************** He had been shot by a tank.

I'm not sure about that parents feeling alienated from their kids. It's an interesting take on the play and there could be a topic *like* it presented in the film, but the movie never hints at or tells us this. In the scene where Augie tells his children about their mother's death, we can see that he was a brainiac like his son, Woodrow from how he tells his own mother where his dead father was after his mother's claim that he was in the stars. As for Clifford and that one kid who dares people, their parents indeed don't understand them or don't care about them as much as they should, but this is never resolved by the alien sighting. In fact, it's never resolved at all. I think the message of the story is found in the actors who don't understand the play of Asteroid City but continue to play the characters they don't understand correctly. That's just my opinion though.

I loved sharing one of my favorite movies with you. I'm 57 years old and have all the Funko Pop characters from this movie. My own family shuns me because I left their doomsday cult, so this movie really connected with me. You have a great voice and awesome empathy. "I think they should all quit, cuz that's not fair." Oh... no. They WANT to be there. To BE part of history. They WANT to get America in space and to the moon. They are dedicated. They are proud and willing to do what it takes to do this. Quitting and sitting it out because of long hours and they aren't being paid more is not even crossing their minds. THIS IS HISTORY and they want to be part of it. Their wives are probably already well aware.

You can't wake up if you don't fall asleep. Think of it in terms of consciousness. The majority of us are still sleeping. We are not aware that there is a deeper purpose or meaning to life that is outside the norm. Humans are still too trapped in our thinking minds and haven't found the way to turn off the thoughts and live in the present moment. If we could all wake up and live together in a realm of peace, without ego, without being dominated by time, we could coexist without the meaningless drama that's created every day. For some of the enlightened spiritual teachers through history, they had to go through the pain and suffering before their egoic pain bodies could be dissolved. They had to "fall asleep" before they could "wake up." And it's the same for most of us. We have to deal with great unconsciousness before we can experience consciousness. This ties in beautifully with Augie needing to know the purpose of the play, but really he just needs to keep telling the story. He's doing it right. We're all doing it right. There is no way to do it wrong. The universe knows what it's doing and will do it through you. There is a higher power, if you will, and all we have to do is keep going. We don't have to understand it. In fact, we can't understand it. Our minds can't comprehend the universe and its mysteries. We try to though. We sit around and create questions in the hope that we might find meaning in it all. The true meaning is beyond our mind. It has nothing to do with what we can see, taste, hear, smell and touch, but instead with that which allows us to see, taste, hear, smell and touch. If this doesn't make any sense, it's ok. You can't wake up if you don't fall asleep.

And of course these women would absolutely face racial prejudice, but there was also a massive amount of gender prejudice. But even without those two factors (that would again absolutely be something that felt every single day), there was also a massive amount of security issues, driven home from the thought of the Soviet Union recruiting disenfranchised Americans. The Red Scare witch hunts had only publicly ended a short while ago. So even someone who was supporting of a woman or a black woman being a productive and valued part of the work force (something that would have been very rare at this time), would very much not allow someone without security clearance seeing any classified data. Or getting into a meeting or areas of Nasa that you had to have clearance to even walk into the room. If a man had come into the office without proper security vetting, their absolutely would be people taking steps to remove anything remotely of a sensitive nature. So realistically it would be all three concerns. Biased over race, and gender and the simple fact that they never received clearance.

Women worked as Computers of varying race. While without questions women who weren't white faced additional discrimination. The simple fact is that they weren't white washed. As white women computers were disposable and not remembered except by those who did have to interact with them back in the day. So what's term used for Gender washing... That would be more important. Now I had seen several things about them, but Ama huge fan of the history of US space travel. If you expanded your knowledge base far beyond the small amount of data that is giving to any singular topic in High school or even base level college courses, while get you a little bit of information about the function and achievement. Its kind of like How when you really dig into history over a certain topic you will find far more detail information of the people besides just the big names, that really help shape history.

How any reactor can edit out the scene where Smitty apologized to Desmond, "for getting him very wrong", I'll never understand. Although it does explain your sub count being so low. Horrible ending to an ok reaction. Also. I was on my way to Florida with my parents and listening to John Glenn’s space trip and heard the silence on the return trip. Something you never forget. Just like Hidden Figures I will never forget. And you were so authentic in your narration. Thank you.

I tear up ALL the way through this movie, each of numerous times I watch it (and reaction videos). Americans were behind in the space race from the beginning. The Soviets put up the first satellite, Sputnik, around 1957. (It was about the size of a basketball.) Our country was in total shock that the Russians had done this and led to an immediate push for science and engineering in all levels of schooling. The USSR also beat us in getting men into space. Their program was done in secret and they only announced their successes after the fact. (America's was done under the glare of full publicity.) The Soviets may have cut corners on safety and perhaps lost men - all through the race to the moon, no American died IN space, although three died in a fire while on the ground. I was born in 1950 and I remember JFK issuing challenge to put a man on the moon before the end of the 1960's. Popular science magazines were full of articles explaining the steps to be taken, and the timetable for each. I literally thought that 1969 would never get here. I am still stunned it took this long for contributions of these women and other marginalized people to be even HINTED at, at least in popular culture. I'm glad, though, it was done in such a great movie, although even now, many people have never heard of any of this. Thanks for your reaction and for sharing it with us.
