For me, what triggers submechanophobia is if the submerged man-made objects have a clear appearance of decay. If the object is brand new, it will not really trigger much. It's a visceral reaction to abandoned and grotesquely deteriorating objects being claimed by the ocean. It evokes a feelings of isolation, vulnerability, and perhaps a primal fear of the unknown. Trying to explain my own submechanophobia in terms of other known phobias, I believe multiple issues have to be at play to create this sense of unease, but some include: thalassophobia, bathophobia, autophobia, thanatophobia.

In my case the fact of seeing a device or equipment supposed to interact in one way or another with a powerful element, air or water, makes me feel in danger with regard to this equipment, it is often a question of oversized devices or equipment that would have no trouble absorbing a man partly or entirely, or inflict surely fatal injuries, and the fact of entering the water or the environment of this equipment, gives me the impression that this same water put me in direct danger with this equipment because if it's made to interact with this water I'm in, I will be treated in the same way by the equipment in question. I know it's fishy but that's how I feel. like if I became a drop of water among the others... Waiting to be sucked by the Big machine.⛲😅🌀 Buoys are also creepy cause it looks like something you can pull to empty the water or like there's some Big structure under it that you dont need to see ⚙️

Just got this ad very strange

peepy has front facing eyes, meaning it is a predatory creature.

It's rather unfortuanate that most of these abandoned locations are being turned into tourist traps or being demolished. Its quite enchanting to be able to lay eyes upon items of the past, such as paperwork or some other thing we find monotonous in the present day. The idea of a human made building, an ugly concrete box, being turned into a wonderful place, full of the beauty of nature.
