I used to daily drive one, a later rubber bumper model. You can get everything for them, including complete body shells.

Maybe on the XJ8, but this car had no such access hole. It was relatively straight foward, though.

An XJR is just the turbo-charged version of the XJ8. And yes, the hole is there on all of those models. In fact, since that post of mine I found a TH-camr who posted a video specifically showing how to access it, and warning people that no drilling is therefore necessary. (1) remove the front wheel on the side with the stuck hood latch (2) remove the plastic wheel arch liner (3) locate the hole (put there by Jaguar for that very purpose) (4) Push upward through the hole with, e.g., a long-handled screwdriver against the bottom of the latch. Latch pops open - voila!
