    For heaven's sake! People say the English have no folk tradition (ignorance) but when someone posts an English song written by a Yorkshire woman people have to twist themselves inside out trying to prove that really, it is in fact Irish, because hey, the English don't do soulful and melodic. No, NOT Irish, and she isn't Irish. Good god if the boot was on the other foot, either mistaking an Irish or Scottish song for English, someone would have declared war by now!

    Lovely! This expresses everything beautiful about the evening... it's my favourite time or day. The world slows down, and even in our rushed 21st-century urban lives we are allowed to pause. The evening is a time that joins everyone across all the ages: it is a time to reflect, to dream, to come home and to rest.

    @SometimesInnocent A lot of people have that reaction when they hear English folk music. In reality, the music across the British isles and Ireland is very similar, except the Irish and Northwestern Scottish music tends to focus more heavily on fast, repetitive arpeggio note-runs. This is, factually, an English folk song.

    • @GoldenLight22
      @GoldenLight22 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Eighties Child the melody sounds Irish, there are many traditional Irish songs that have very similar melodies to this. She is probably part Irish and it came through her when she wrote it. Enya said in a interview she didn't even realize she was writing songs that sounded so Irish either
