Ca. early-1960s, Seattle: "Queen City" of Washington
These scenes of Seattle (ca. early-1960s) are from a Camerama USA film (Super 8mm) I bought on eBay. Victory Studios in Seattle (www.victorystudios.com) digitized the footage. The original film was silent, so I added “Love” by Benjamin Tissot to the footage (Music by Bensound, License code: TXPRMSMJB5MXP1FA). The picture was jumpy, so I added stabilization to the film using DaVinci Resolve. The titles I added to the film are from the list of scenes written on the film packaging. I edited a few of the scene descriptions and put my changes in brackets.
List of scenes written on original packaging [my edits in brackets]:

I grew up in Seattle during the 60's. My dad took me to the Smith Tower one Saturday morning around 1964, I was 6 or 7 years old. We took the old-style gated elevator up to the 35th floor, there wasn't anyone else around. He told me about the history of the building and you could tell he thought it was pretty neat. He made it a fun day and a memory of my dad I have never forgotten.

Considering Spokane Gary was sent to a Catholic school to be propagandandized with the white man ways, he went on to teach the Catholic religion and not the Christian religion. Very LARGE difference.

I remember watching this movie when I was in elementary school. In fact, most of the films on Spokane that have been uploaded to TH-cam were required viewing in classrooms through my school days. You are to be commended for finding film and the others so people can see how our area developed. They’re the best documents we have and Pryor’s work still comes through brilliantly.

There wasn't many lakes better than this one for boating and camping. Mara Lake in BC was pretty good too. This was a few years before I was there with relatives and their friends, 1977 to 84 about. That wooden slalom ski looks like mine, still have it under my couch. LOL. I never had money to buy a boat. I was a just hack just like other sports. LOL. A couple times we did a triple run. A couple times I skied most of the way to the south end from Kaniksu resort I think it was. Also skied way up Seymore arm at Shuswap Lake. Damn shame those places couldn't last with a short 4 month season. Things were awesome during the boomer years, bowling leagues also. Damn old folks condos there now. We took the Cessna float plane ride once as well. In the 1960s we went to Penticton most years to get fruit. I wish they had filmed the campground and buildings. I don't have of photo of it either, damn.

We grew up in Spokane. There were 5 of us kids. I remember going to the big grassy reservoir and sliding down on waxed cardboard. When we went to sacred heart school, We would walk up the big wall leading up to sacred heart hospital. I remember when the first 7-11 opened up. Us kids walked all over Spokane. We’d take the bus downtown to see the dentist and I remember stealing grab bags from Woolworths. We went to Comstock Park and liberty lake all the time. I remember when A&W root beer opened near Comstock Park. Good times!!!

Sad to learn of the history of this river. A once mighty river that housed the PNW largest salmon and steelhead runs. Now reduced to nothing because of the dams and the chemicals dumped into the river. Maybe one day they will remove the dams on this river and we will see these fish return like they did on the Elwha river.

@@Backwara Which economic boom? Spokane has had several, and that's if you do not count the Native American history prior to the arrival of the European community. Along with smaller ones, Spokane had a big economic boom between 1890 and 1910 during which time it was estimated that there were more millionaires per capita in Spokane than anywhere else in America (26 in 100,000). The WWII era was economically good for Spokane also, and of course Spokane has been booming again for a decade or so again....so your point was what??

The problem I had with the Spokane side was, aside from high levels of property crime, the dictates coming from WA's progressive dict..er leadership. They are not only making policing harder, coddling the criminal class, but also working damn hard to get a state income tax added (one way or another). Idaho's property values are also on the rise, and will probably stick if there is a correction... making it a safer investment, even if temporary.
