Yes, but he also grew up as a wrestler from the time he came out of his mother's womb. It's like putting Roger Gracie in a high school wrestling class. He would kill them, but he's not a highly ranked wrestler. People with backgrounds in one grappling sport pick things up very quickly in another grappling sport.

Why? Belt colours serve a very important purpose. They give something to aim for. They show people the level of skill they're rolling against during training which helps to gauge one's own progress. They allow for a more level playing field in tournaments. They allow for a more professional approach in appointing coaches, ensuring that people are correctly qualified when instructing groups. They help new practitioners to know who to trust when asking for advice. Belt promotions aren't the only reason we train, but they are very important.
