Yes- you can still fly a Yak-40 in this day and age..this is the return journey with Motor Sich from Krivoy Rog to Kiev Zhuliany. After I finished recording the landing, we were taxiing onto our parking stand, when suddenly a big vibration was felt, as the left wing struck a set of aircraft steps, taking out the wing tip and nav light! I have pics, but damn I wish I had of kept the video rollin...

GREAT SOUND, VERY VERY ORIGINAL
The member of cabin crew announcing is my daughter, not too long after this video was filmed BMI Regional closed down the Manchester base where she operated from. This of course meant lost jobs, she loved her role and on a lot of the flights with less than 43 pax she was the only cabin crew, a lot to deal with on a relatively short flight.Grest Video.

Now that’s one BadAss plane! Lol💪 Old school baby!

Turboprops sound nice
If reverse thrust (beta mode?) was applied after touchdown, then I never noticed the propeller blade pitch do any reversals despite the convenience of the stroboscopic effect in the footage which makes it easy to see blade pitch angle. By the way, at startup, the blades also never appeared to be feathered as the engines were being cranked up to start. Is this how the Russian aircraft makers do their thing?
Probably you look at the blade's root. Angle of attack of the blade varies along its length --- greater at the root, lesser at the tip, and it's optimized for cruise. So in reverse the outer part of the blade is at negative AOA while the root is still at 'forward thrust' as it does very little of that.

Many say that driving a vehicle with a manual transmission is "Real Driving"! I say that flying in a propeller driven airliner is "Real Flying"! The word "Turboprop" actually refers to the fact that it's a turbine powered engine, and not an old fashioned piston driven propeller engine. What it really is, is a jet engine with a propeller attached. That fact is noticeable if you listen to these engines when they fire up. The propeller supplies most of the driving power for the airplane, while the jet exhaust adds only a slight extra power, about a ten percent thrust. Another name for these engines is "Gas Turbine" engine.
Turbojets, turboshafts and other 'turbos' are all 'gas turbines' as long as their working fluid is gas.
It's funny how the 60 cycle flicker of the TV or computer screen creates optical illusions of the props going slow or backwards. I love turboprop airliners. When I lived in Ithaca NY, I flew back and forth between Charlotte NC and Ithaca, and flew out of Ithaca to NY LaGuardia, Philly, and Pitsburgh, on various regional turboprop airliners with US Airways Express. The aircraft included the Beechcraft 1900, Jetstream 31, Shorts 360, and my favorite of all of those, the DeHaviland Dash 8. I love watching and listening to the engines fire up. I love the sound that the props make. As the propeller starts to rotate, and gain speed, you hear the whine of the jet engine. When it reaches full idle speed, and the prop blades become virtually invisible, the "BOX FAN" sound is added to the whine of the jet engine. In takeoff, when the props are rotated at 1,500 RPM, they make the "BUMBLEBEE" sound, and it's like a big surge of power. It's my understanding that the majority of the public is not aware that the turboprop engine is a jet engine with a propeller attatched. They think it's a turbocharged piston driven propeller engine, like those of the old Dougless DC-7 airliner. But if you listen to it when it fires up, you can hear the whine of the jet engine. If you're outside the aircraft, you can smell the jet exhaust.
Ahh the old UsAir Express flights out of philly. I've taken several of them
I flew on a Dash 8 (same route from newark to buffalo) a month after the flight 3407 crash.
Title is misleading: Should be IL18 two left engines with props turning.
Air Koryo...oh, my God..!
Yes
Самолёт моего детства! :'( Спасибо за возвращение меня туда, пусть ненадолго. ^^
nice point of view
I'm wondering where they get spare parts? Last Il-18 was build in 1978.
Oleg Zaidullin they break up other IL18 's for parts.
Those engines are running like a top.
did you ever get your hearing back?
Who in the hell would want to visit North Korea?
It is a chance to see how Soviet Union looked like sixty years ago.
Who in the hell would visit Europe and specially Germany ?
there is no reverse thrust ? or?
I think the propellers reverse their pitch to thrust backward, just as they have ‘neutral’ position to stand still.
Nice video I prefer this lovely aircraft
Are you British or Egyptian?
do you remember what seat you were in?
I must say I love your username! Very clever! :D
Just a perfect landing! Like every landing what I do remember when flying with Aeroflot Tu-134,Tu-154 or IL-86.
These screaming russian engines is really adrenalin!! Super landing.
r u sure it's a tripe 7? its usually a 767
what is it with russian aircraft and requiring 10000 feet of runway just to moderately achieve takeoff speed ? are they inherently designed with the performance of a wet sponge at all times? seems like it to me
Neil _H thanks for this info, I didn't know. Learnt something new today :))
they look like turboshaft engines
Great! :) You remember the seatnumber?
was the flight busy
Jamie Mcconnell Pretty busy, yes, and not very comfortable. I try to avoid 6 abreast seating on a 146 or Avro..best to sit at the back!
how much does it cost ?
I must say this IL18 looks very well maintained for its age, i am very suprised.
The sound of those Russian engines! xD
You must have been sat right in front of me!
Great plane - soviet history
Sound <3
How in the world did go to PYONGYANG without getting KILLED.
North Korea is safer than many other countries for a tourist to go to. So long as you don't make any critical comments about politics there, all will be well..but that rule goes when visiting any country :)
Sarah Lilly Chances of you being killed in North Korea is 0, literally.
Sarah, Approximately 100,000 tourists visit North Korea every year, about 5,000 from the West and 95,000 from China. If you don't spout political criticism or start preaching in public, your chances of being hurt are nearly zero. Now, I love the USA, but I want you to visit the following places at night, by yourself, and report back to me: Compton, East Saint Louis, Fresno, San Bernardino, South Stockton, Camden, South Chicago, East LA, East Cleveland, central Dayton, and the Nickel Ward of Houston. Stroll around by yourself and chat with the locals.......
Western propaganda had you thinking North Korea was some dangerous dystopic nightmare. America is far, far more dangerous to vacation to lmaoo
