Kapowski Reads
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 15 พ.ย. 2021
I’m just here to waffle on about books. I live a pretty quiet life, so if you want a cosy wee chat about books, maybe you might enjoy my videos
I read a variety of books but my heart belongs to fantasy and murder mystery. I enjoy whimsical reads and have recently gotten very into creepier reads
I also enjoy going for wee walks so my videos sometimes include snippets of Scotland looking cute 💕
I post videos every Sunday and love blethering about my favourite Scottish books
In 2024 I am embarking on a wee low spend year and will be documenting this as I try to buy less and use what I have

January Wrap Up - Books, Empties, and Favourites
I haven't done a monthly wrap up for a really long time, so I thought I would bring them back!
I really enjoyed sharing my monthly #lowspendyear updates so thought I would continue sharing my empties while adding in books and general monthly achievements/feelings and favourites. Basically a wrap up of the month as a whole

Reading Vlog: Snowy Days and Chaotic First Books of the Year
มุมมอง 4221 วันที่ผ่านมา
Winter has truly arrived in Aberdeen and I am in full hibernation mode. Staying indoors and reading books sounded like the best idea! When it came to how to start my 2025 reading, I looked into my heat to see what I really wanted...I wanted chaos! So I chose 2 of the most chaotic sounding books from my collection and I had a great time #winter #winterreading #winterreads #readingvlog Music: Ima...

The Best Books of 2024
มุมมอง 129หลายเดือนก่อน
In my opinion...so maybe 'My Favourite Books of 2024' would be a more fitting title. This vlog is exactly that, me chatting away about my absolute favourite books from 2024. They may not have all come out in 2024 but that's they year that I read them so it totally counts I had aimed to have a list of ten...but it turned into 13 yet was actually 14. Oh well, if you can't go over the top for your...
Low Spend Diaries - I Finished My Low Spend Year
มุมมอง 222หลายเดือนก่อน
Friends, I did it. I finished my #lowspendyear and if I'm being entirely honest, I wasn't sure if I could do it. In this video I chat about my low spend year as a whole and I share how much I spent on my restricted categories and how much I was able to save over the year. I'm ending this experience on a high...but I'm also going back into it armed with the knowledge from this year. Low Spend 20...
Most Disappointing Reads of 2024 Plus A New Favourite Read
มุมมอง 62หลายเดือนก่อน
Is anyone else obsessed with all of the best/worst book lists right now? 'Tis the season! I am not ready to share my favourites just yet, especially as I'm still finding new faves (even this week! what a delight!) but I am ready to talk about my most disappointing reads of the year These are not necessarily 'bad' books. They are books that I thought would be 5 star reads but weren't. I'm not an...

All those books AND your exams?! Wow, you’re doing awesome!
Hiya! I absolutely love your TBR game. That must be so much fun to do! Really enjoyed watching this video 🥰🥰
Thank you so much! That's so lovely to hear 💕 it's genuinely really fun to play and really nice to have a helping hand to make my TBR 💕
Boast girl boast!!! Be loud and proud of your math skills!!🫶
Thank you! I'm still proud of my Junior Maths Challenge award from 2000 and it was only bronze 😸
I hauled the Hilary Duff series. I plan on reading it sometime this year. Though I am not sure when. I definitely expect it to be a bit silly, but am looking forward to it. I hope your reads go well.
I am so excited for you to get to experience it. It sounds made up 😸 it's genuinely brought me a lot of joy lately to reminisce about it 💕
I have a comic book but somehow your able to do more pages then me
So long as you're enjoying it, it's all good 💕
We didn’t get much snow in Lanarkshire but it was really thick ice! Almost went on my backside numerous times 😂 I’ve not finished a book yet this year but about to finish The Twelve Caesars by Mary Beard
Oh no! Sorry that you fell! That's my constant fear when it's slippy outside. Hopefully you got to stay indoors and enjoy your book for a bit though! Most of our snow is gone now, so quickly 😸💕
bruh I can only read like 30-35 pages an hour
That's still great though! This book was a very quick read (I think). I'm way slower with non fiction though 💕
Still it's so nice to walk on snowy paths and have snow flakes melting in your palm
The paths were so slippy 😸 so gorgeous to look at but risky 💕
Good luck on your exams!! And with your goals! I still need to film my goals video. I’m slow on the filming after Vlogmas.
Thank you so much! I somehow missed your comment and will need to come watch your goal video 💕
🥂🎆📚
Happy new year 🥳🎆💕
Happy new year
🎆happy new year to you! I hope 2025 is very kind to you 💕
You have done really well! 2025 I’m doing a low buy so I can’t wait to join in! But I need to focus on using up things, I’m really bad at buying toiletries. And yeah my books are out of control
OMG sorry my comments were hiding and I just saw this! I'm so excited for you to experience this too, it's quite freeing 💕 I love toiletries too! Just a wee bit of self care 💕
Subscribed, and I loved Welcome to Cooper. Im reviewing it soon.
Sorry I missed this comment! Ooh I look forward to hearing how you got on with it 💕
@@KapowskiReads No worries, check out my book sof 2024 video as I mention it there, cheers! :)
Well done! Good luck for next year 🍀
thank you so much! I've got a plan and that's the best I can do 😸 I hope you have a lovely new year 💕
Your videos are absolutely inspiring and incredible! Outstanding vlog 👍🏻
that's so lovely to hear, thank you so much 💕
Well done you!! I really need to do the same!
I highly recommend, it was oddly quite freeing. shelf space is always nice but I swear my dusting routine now takes twice as long 😸💕
I hope I’m as successful in my low spend year as you’ve been! Your savings were incredible! I am hoping to make it a lifestyle change too, but starting with a year timeframe. Thanks for sharing and being so transparent in this series. Good luck in 2025! I’ll be following along!
I wish you all the luck for your own lifestyle changes too! I always feel the new year seems like a great place to start 💕
Congrats on a successful year! You've inspired me to set some no-spend/low-spend goals for myself next year. ❤
I love this! I love a good goal, something to work towards. I am excited for your year ahead 💕
I LOOOOOVE toiletries as gifts, give me usable gifts that i dont have to spend my own money on. Its a real task to keep track of your spending so props to you for giving it a try.
I love the gift of one less task to be done 😸 I have a friend who always just asks for toiletries so she never needs to go and buy them, she hasn't had to buy a shower gel in years (and smells amazing). goals! I love a spreadsheet so it's been very fun tracking everything 💕
Brilliant video 👍🏻
thank you so much! 💕
Spectacular wasn't as holiday as I wanted. That middle part was 😮 I was like Tella you're a freak. I didn't mind it but I think cause I don't like dark romance so this was like bubble gum dark romance 😅. I wanted more winter solstice magic though but I still gave it 5 stars.
ha ha I think that's the best description for it. Tella has secrets we didn't know about 😸 I really want Stephanie Garber to come out with a Winter Solstice fantasy book, more whimsy and sugarplums 💕
Think I need to read Fade into You. Grew up during that time in the Glasgow area
I also think you need to read it! It totally captured that time period so well and the characters I just wanted to hug 💕
I should really start keeping note of my DNFs - I know I definitely have this year but can’t remember how many or which ones. This definitely doesn’t sound like a book for me either!
I don't accurately track my DNFs but i love that StoryGraph has a dnf option. I have the fear of picking up a book I've previously DNF'd and giving up on it twice (this has happened only once so far) 😸💕
@@KapowskiReadsweirdly although I can’t remember them I can remember when I see them again. But why did I not know you could use that option on StoryGraph! Every days a school day
that’s the second book I’ve heard about today with a main character called Amelia! this never happens!
That's such a coincidence! Two in one day 😸 it's a lovely name, every Amelia I've ever met has been a delight 💕
🎵 you don’t win friends with salad! You don’t win friends with salad! 🎵 - now that songs gonna be in my head ALL day 😂
It was in mine too! It's the perfect song whenever there's salad (I also do I wee conga kick😸) 💕
@ oh I was absolutely doing the wee conga shuffle 😂 man that show has so many great moments. Everything that happens in life there’s a Simpsons example to use i swear!
@ I was saying 'boo-urns' and Old Man Yells At Cloud are regular phrases in our home 😸 and the entire monorail song! We had a CD of the songs as a kid, those lyrics are etched in my brain 💕
@ haha yes! I say Boo-urns every time instead of boo 😂 and regularly start singing Monoraiiill!! 😁 as well as “no it’s the children who are wrong”, “won’t someone think of the children” etc lol
you've done so well with this!
Thank you! I can't believe I'm almost finished, it feels kind of like maybe this is my life now 💕
I'm excited to hear your thoughts on the Joe Hill book
I liked it a lot and I want to read more books by Joe Hill! I expected it to be scarier but that was just me 💕
i love those cheesy christmas plots for films but never explored the book side of it haha, they all sound fun though
I think of them as a wee Candy floss read. Where a happy ever after is usually guaranteed, perfect for this time of year. I'm such a sucker for Christmas films too! Especially the ridiculous ones that are full of plot holes. I require less logic in December 😸💕
Sounds like a great reading month!
I'm hoping for light, cosy, and joyous ☃️ I hope you have a wonderful December too 💕
love it when the nonfic hits hard in those raw and personal ways - you feel so seen! Carry by Toni Jensen is my favourite essay collection but there are so many other wonderful options out there, this is the beauty of Nonfiction November 🫶🏻
It really is! That collection sounds very powerful and I'm adding it to the TBR 💕
I will need to read The things we do to our friends and suck feet before my Scotland trip next year! Thanks!
I highly recommend them both! They'll definitely get you in the zone for a wee Scotland trip 💕 that's very exciting!
I might need to pick up Dead Weight, I've had my own experiences with disordered eating. Drunk girl toilet chats were some of the best chats 😂
Sending you love 💕 I highly recommend it, I've never felt so embraced by a book before 💕 the wisdom of the ladies room after dark 😸
N0S4R2 is such a great underrated book. Glad you enjoyed it my friend
I did! I need to read more by Joe Hill! 💕
I had the majority of the same feelings as you. I actually read this before I ever read Stephen King's work. Realizing that Joe Hill is Stephen King's son gave me the courage to read King. I am also a wimp as you put it.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I don't know why but I just expected Hill and King to create similar books 😸 we can be Team Scaredy Cat 💕
Hi, I enjoyed watching with my best friend. We enjoyed your reading vlog
Thank you (and your best friend) so much! 💕
I'm so glad that the girls got their happy ending in Carmilla and Laura
@@Dethjezter same! And the ending? There's a whole sequel just waiting to be written 💕
I’m catching up on your low spend year reports! I’m thinking about doing it in 2025. I love the ordinary line. My favorites are their hyaluronic serum and the squalane cleanser. Their toner is too harsh for my skin, so still looking for one. I’ve had a sampler of Pixi vitamin C toner and like that one!
@@Michelelynnreads I highly recommend giving it a wee go! I've been so surprised by how long everything lasts I haven't tried those serums yet. I'm so new to The Ordinary but I think I love it! The peeling mask makes my skin feel so fresh Pixi toners are without question, my top tier toners! 💕
the Oreo Diet Coke!!! did it taste like you’ve seen everything now?
It tastes so unnecessary 😸 definitely feels like they've ran out of flavours 💕
totally agree about Piglet! I think it was supposed to be a commentary on the Millennial tendency to be keeping up appearances and achieving milestones even at the detriment of your own happiness / settling for less than you deserve, and the impacts it can have on your overall wellbeing. I think that was portrayed well, but totally agree that we should’ve found out what her partner did. it’s heavily implied that he had an affair, but it would’ve hit completely different and massively impacted our view of Piglet if we found out he’d killed someone or something, that would’ve been so good. alas, I think he was just a spineless idiot in the end, very uninventive 😂
@@ameliabarlowbooks I think that's what made it so frustrating; it could have been fantastic! I like what it was trying to do but it just didn't hit there for me which was a shame 💕
Hi! I just finished Carmilla and am really interested in C&L, but am worried that I will end up as a sobbing mess by the end if it ends the same way as the novella - does the ending differ? Or does it end in the same way? Thank you, and have a good day 😊
@@CamilleLeRoux-sw8gu it includes the original ending but in C&L that isn't where the book ends, there's a few more chapters. I felt like it was a far more satisfying ending and definitely felt like an ending for the people 😸 I still sobbed but i found this revision pleasing! I hope you've had a lovely weekend 💕
i love carmilla, such a great book. the retelling sounds interesting too!
It really is! It packs so much in It was a very enjoyable retelling and I was so wary 😸💕
I will have to add this to my TBR :)
I highly recommend it! It's a bit chunky but it didn't feel like it was super long 💕
This was fun. I had no idea Batman Forever was a Tim Burton film. You learn something new every day!
thank you so much 💕 I didn't know until right before I made this video 😸 we are learning together lol 💕
Love this video! Really cool
Thank you so much! 💕
happy anniversary! the lego dinosaurs are fun, i always think those huge sculptures are so cool and must take so long to make. ive never heard of shivers or point horror but both sounded good, its always enjoyable to dip back into childhood books for a little bit of nostalgia
I think point horror was the alternative to fear street and shivers the alternative to goosebumps. Our town library really loved point horror 😸 The Lego statues were so cool! I am still in awe of them 💕
I haven't read this Jd Barker book but I do enjoy his other works.
I haven't read anything else by him but I'd like to. Do you have any you'd recommend? 💕
@@KapowskiReads Yes! 4MK series. I did a video a few days ago where I talked about the book. The video is Top Thriller Books, I go over a quick synopsis of the book. Listen to it and let me know if that is something that may interest you
Fun video! I need to check a few of these out specifically trick or treat.
I highly recommend! It was such a good nostalgic treat and such a quick but atmospheric treat 💕
I have a vague idea that I read Teacher's Pet but I'm not 100% sure 🧐
I only know I read it because I was told I had 😸but I didn't remember it until near the end when I had it come flooding back to me. I am such a sucker for a book where the forest is a main character 💕
This was fun. 🎃
Thank you so much! It was a very wholesome experience but I did go on about my big long walk for a couple of days 😸💕
🎃
💕💕💕
