Weaving mini-tutorial 6: TUCKING IN ENDS
I show you how to tuck ends in vertically (along the warp) and horizontally (in the direction of weft threads). I'm demonstrating on a new weaving full of colour to make things clearer.
To skip my verbal explanation (sorry I'm waffling a little!) go to:
3:20 Tuck ends in horizontally on your weaving
6:24 Tuck ends in vertically on your weaving
To buy my looms, head over to www.etsy.com/uk/shop/RoDyeworks
Leave me a comment with any questions below, or let me know the next technique you want to see me demonstrate!
Thanks for watching!

Weaving mini tutorial 5: COMPLETING A HILL / WAVE SHAPE (FILLING IN)

After a very long TH-cam hiatus, I've finally recorded this tutorial showing you how to weave the other part of a wave / hill / gentle slope shape. Note that I don't interlock the colours together, hence why this is appropriate for gentle curves, not clear-cut shapes, squares, steeper inclines. Please feel free to post questions below! I would like to buy a heddlle bar...just started but my loom didn't include one & now just found out about this tool. My questions(maybe you answered elsewhere))...do I warp my loom before or after placing the bar on,do I warp each slot or alternate them? It looked as if it was alternate. What's the difference between shorter & longer slots? Hope my questions made sense. I'm a bit frustrated but want to continue & learn. Thanks so much for your instructions😊

    On this loom there are 2 bars each about 2 inches from the top and bottom of the loom. Are they meant just for stability and keeping the loom square - or are they meant to indicate the weaving area (in between the 2 bars). It’s difficult to weave over the bars - and I would usually start my tapestry about an inch above the bottom. So a bit confused about their purpose.

    I am so glad I ordered a loom with a heddle bar. I crochet graphgans,( blankets with pictures) and I want to use my patterns for quilts and make them by weaving in hopes that they will be completed faster. Crocheting by hand takes forever, especially when you want to give them for gifts on a deadline. (I have this Christmas quilt that I have not finished in 7 years. It will cover my full size bed when done. I also have a blanket for my oldest grand daughter that needs to be finished. I don't want to start anything new till I can get these finished..I have wanted to learn to weave forever. I am hoping I can learn it quick..

    Why is it more common to double warp? Is it necessary or is it personal preference depending on what you are weaving? Does it make a difference in the tapestry? I understand that if I am weaving a finer tapestry, I would double warp. Thanks very much in advance. By the way, I tried to look up your website and got an error message: "This site cannot be reached".

    I've been interested in weaving but have been reading about heddles, and beams and goodness knows what else and thinking maybe it was too difficult for me. Then reviews of these types of looms saying they are faulty "because the warp separators cause the warp threads to fall off". Well I have googled ALL DAY trying to find out if these looms are OK then I found your video. It's a heddle, you have to loosen tension enough to get the heddle in but not too loose or the warp threads may pop off. You are my hero. Seriously. A good teacher makes people feel they can understand complex or new ideas without overwhelming them and you have done just that. New subscriber. Thank you so so much 💗

  • @lunarrefresh

    I saw a video where they double warped by going up the first notch into the upper first, down the upper second into the lower first, up the lower second into the upper second, down the upper third into the lower second, up the lower third... and so on. Basically stringing into whatever was stringed last. Would this work as well, or would that slant the work? I come from a knitting and crocheting background, so I know nothing of weaving.

      @ro.dyeworks 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Great question! The method you describe is a method I have seen used often and it works well, it's not how I was originally taught but it has some advantages. If you have trouble with spacing, thicker yarns (at least in the first 2-4 rows) will help achieve a more even set-up. You can also start with a row or two of Twining stitch to even the spaces out - I have a separate video showing twining stitch. (I find this helpful regardless of warping method.) I think it's worth experimenting and seeing which one you prefer! Happy weaving!
