Lovely coversation. As a 42 year old white male this movie hit me for every reason Jak-luke discusses here while at the same time clearly seeing the trans story it so much is about. Thinking about every time I've made the easy/safe choice instead of the difficult one to follow my dreams or my true self. What makes this film special is for anyone that can vibe with it or connect to it a trans story can really be story that anyone can identify with.

And I say this in no way to diminish the trans story at the center of the film but how this movie is a true empathy machine.

I dont have much to say on your review in general, but you said not a single destroyed house set... lol did you not watch the same movie? There were a handful?? Destroyed buildings, hotels, houses, ???

not sure why everybody loves the film but they are adamant it will not be nominated for Oscars. its really surprising when we are talking about a movie which is already awarded in Cannes, there is so much vibe and critical acclaim. The new Oscars voters are not as stuffy as they used to be

And guys, you speant nearly half of the time discussing about wich other film should be Best Picture. If you feel EEAAO doesn't deserve Best Picture and want to find an alternative, maybe you should title it clearer? You shouldn't put EEAAO in the title and then spent a half of the time NOT talking about it. It's misleading.

S P O I L E R S I agree he didn’t want the house. He wanted Felix and what Felix had/represented. Oliver is a compulsive liar and knowing some compulsive liars, they lie to themselves the most. He didn’t have a plan, he lucked out. Waiting 16 years for a natural death is never a part of a “mastermind’s” plan. He is telling himself that he was a mastermind, when really he lost site of what he wanted. Which was Felix. But he wanted to feel special with the “cool people” too. Felix is awful, he does jerk-esque things in most scenes. He does not treat women well, he ditches 2 people he was supposed to meet up with the same day (Annabelle and Oliver), he does not treat his cousin well with his white fragility meltdown, he baits Oliver the entire movie like with the shared bathroom. He expects Felix to take his non-functional bike back and he does not help his struggling sister. He has this weird poverty cosplay hero complex. He shouldn’t have interfered in Oliver’s home life. The whole shared bathroom, that’s a tactic of Felix’s. It’s very easy in a house with with 127 rooms to find a guest room with a private bathroom. Felix looks like a good guy on the surface. I wasn’t cheering for Oliver at the end. Everyone is horrible. I don’t think it’s an eat the rich story. It’s a story of how we are taught to revere horrible people. Because most kings and rich people did horrible things to get as rich as they did. But once they win…there is revisionist history. While I don’t agree with much of your review, you both articulated your reasons for your dislike very reasonably.

MM has made my favorite movie of all time, Heat. I think he's past his prime unfortunately. His casting has been extremly poor and I knew Driver wouldn't be at a high level. I will always appreciate MM, but I think the reign of high quality film making is over...

I think the fact y’all seemed to go into this movie with bias even “avoiding everything about this movie” shows that your inner child’s have died long ago. You seem to have much more in common with slugworth than wonka

*No spoilers here.* GLASS ONION: A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY contains flashbacks where a certain moment is shown more than once in order to reveal information. This works whenever said moment is presented from a different point of view, but sometimes, it’s the same shot with the same actors where a character does something slightly different. That feels like cheating. Compared to KNIVES OUT, the comedy is weaker and the satire is more obvious. Also, what made that movie so memorable was the way in which it broke some rules that felt essential to stories about a murder mystery… while still being traditional enough to feel like another entry in the genre. This sequel doesn’t play with the formula in the same way. Don’t get me wrong. All of the plot twists are good, but in terms of unpredictability; not in terms of reinventing storytelling structure. 6/10
