The absolute most refreshing thing Jeff said, was his evaluation of "electro-drums". Yes, many love them and it's completely subjective, but I agree with Jeff's opinion completely. I've owned several sets myself and was never happy with the artificial sound. But, to each his own.

So much of what he's saying could easily be said today. Technology made music quite fun in the late 70s/early 80s. The truly talented musicians and producers (David Foster, etc) were able to do incredible things with the new and upcoming tech. There are still amazing musicians out there, but they're not main stream anymore. It's mostly prog-rock bands that you almost have to hunt down. Jeff was truly a gift.

I'm a Brit drummer who was obsessed with the L.A session scene and guys like Jeff, Vinnie, Dennis Chambers, Steve Gadd etc back in the day. Still am. I know that many of you on here will know this already, but if you don't, check out a 1988 album by a Scottish band by the name of 'Love and Money' called 'Strange Kind Of Love'. Polydor flew them to LA, got Gary Katz to produce, their drummer left before the flight out , so Gary brought in Jeff Porcaro. It is still, to this day, one of my favourite albums of all time, and an absolute Tour De Force in Session Playing from Jeff Porcaro. He plays on every track. It's perfection. This album truly demonstrates what can happen when you bring in the Best. I miss him.

Love it! I went to MI in 88-89 and got to spend a memorable couple of hours in a room with him. The looks on some of the student drummers faces when he would talk about rejecting formal music education in favor of listening to and playing music was priceless.

Love listening to this guy, Very relatable. There's alot of drummers who try to tell you the "proper" way to play drums. There's no proper way, only your way. Also, I love what he said about electric drums. First and only time i ever got fired from a band, i refused to play electric drums.
