A couple of solo adventures in my 14 foot dingy took me out into the blue water, in pursuit of big fish off the west coast of New Zealand's South Island.
Kings, cod, crays and snapper

I'm going to have to visit you again
@@craigmckenzie384 always welcome mate
I did one plucked, then butterflied and cooked in lamb fat. First time I hadn't overcooked them and it was delicious
A good day out
Cool😊
far out, that's insane!!
Damn, made me homesick! Grew up in Dunedin and used to go around the Peninsula quite a lot. I miss it! I miss the time of my childhood in Dunedin 50's60's. Such an innocent time full of childhood fun and adventure, rabbiting, fishing, gathering seafood etc. Great place to grow up in.
Unique
Aaah yes use to do this alot when growing up the price for this kai today is down right theft
what a wicked score
Epic adventure Ben

Mean as bro. Good message with the safety, too many amos these days😅
Do you need a fishing licence to catch perch?
Yes
Where abouts did you catch these? Keen to take the kids out and have a try. Cheers
Probably near Dunedin on the south side
Great catch. Not nothing in a 14 - gutsy. Those albacore are great eating as long as they are bled and cooled straight away - nice size fish.
Mean solo mission. Well done. 🤙
Epic brother
Top video Ben
Top video's but could you possibly tone down the volume of music it's just abit to loud
Yeah, I noticed it was too loud after I uploaded it. Unfortunately, I deleted all the files, so now I can't re-edit it!!!
Epic bro what a catch! Won’t do that in Tasman Bay!
Love your work. Ah, the memories. Thank you.
Looks like you had Yellow belly and sand flounder. Good catch
Can you eat those things mate?
Yup, great eating. White flesh, similar to a saltwater fish like snapper
@@bensowryNZ I will have to give them a go…not sure if we have them up here in Tauranga, so a good excuse for a road trip down there, cheers.
This looks absolutely FANTASTIC!! I am so hungry watching this! I had to share this video to Facebook. Hopefully my friend will bring a duck or two today if they see the video.
"canada goose or swan" - SWAN? (Sorry, I'm English, swans are forbidden here, they all belong to the Queen - or I guess the King now. Only the monarch is legally allowed to eat swans.
Here in NZ, black swan may be hunted, with regional and seasonal restrictions. White swan are protected here.
I see why my ancestors left.
Your ancestors left to steal another peoples homeland remember that
Well at least the attitude of the first mate improved throughout the vid given the start lol
You need a Marlborough sounds vid on here next with some carrot action
so howd it taste?
Pretty good! Quite a strong thyme flavour with this batch, will experiment with other flavours with the next lot
I've recently moved to Southland. Looking forward to trying this out. Will check out your flounder video next. Subbed

Mean feed of flounders. Awesome. Love it. Can’t beat it. Cheers for the vid mate.

Nice feed there. Awesome.
What bait do you use
Just used a kahawai frame
@@bensowryNZ oh yep thanks
Beautiful video mate, nice to go grab some Cockles from out Dr's Point. Was just wondering though where do you get your tuatua from? Have been looking for them a couple times but with no success
Any of the sandy beaches. Look for their shells then dig around in the low tide area. Sometimes take some finding
@@bensowryNZ awesome thanks, how far under the sand are they down here, and at low tide are they still in ankle/knee deep water or do you not have to get wet for em? Cheers
relaxing kino
Wonderful video. So nice and relaxing.
As kids up in Reparoa in the Waikato River we'd go crawley catching man we had a ball. Remember one night three of us caught 85 at night In just a few hours we did a huge cook up the next day man we had fun fishing catching Kura but that's what we did in the 80 early 90
Are they still exist in waikato river?
Not sure how I got this video recommended, but sure glad it did! Excellent vid - thank you!
never seen them b4, they tiny ah?
What reel do you use on your salmon rod?
Shimano corvalus 400
There is a 20lb Tench in NZ. Possibly not right now. But there will be
In our region, cockles, scallops, mussels and flounders have effctively disappeared. Nobody seems to care. Why?
because there is other more accessible baits
Hello good video
Bloody great video man Cheers
That first duck we call them pafic black duck over here in Australia or Blackies or number 2 table bird to eat our numbers one is grey teal for table bird we don't get your mallard ducks over here to shoot
