How to adjust the timing on a 1.9 VE TDI Injection Pump: On two different engines (ALH & AFN)
มุมมอง 56K3 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video i'll be going in-depth with how you should time your injection pump to get an awesome all-rounder of an engine. Even though I am focusing on the 1.9 TDI engines, this is applicable to other VE TDI engines such as the V6s etc. It did turn out to be rather long but hopefully you will not leave with any questions after. Want to learn how to change the timing belt on a 1.9 TDI engine? In this video I try to go in to as much detail as possible regarding how to do it. It is a straight forward job, though you will need a special tool kit in order to lock the camshaft primarily. But also the injection pump. Fear not, I got you covered with my affiliate link to the required tools below. Hope you enjoy! Support me on...
VW Caddy MK1 TDI Build Part 2: Fitting the Engine

It has been a while since part 1 was uploaded, but now I am back in business and with a 100% focus on this beauty it's time to get some results! This episode is focused on fitting the engine in preparation for my impending re-design of the firewall. Because you know, AC is a must.. Even though we have just 4-5 hot months in Sweden at the most. Anyway, hope you enjoy the video and I would love s...

มุมมอง 10K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Welcome to Part 2 of the EZ30D series, where I replace the timing chain assembly and seal a nasty oil leak behind the rear timing cover! In this part I do the last of the teardown and find out where it most likely leaked oil. Note: This was filmed in the fall of 2019. Hope you enjoy! What is the specs for tuned engines. Like with 11mm pump and bigger nozzles 0.216
Project shutdown ???
Doing mine tomorrow, wow you made it look so easy!! Thank you :)
I must've missed something... Why did you have to remove the cam and injection pump sprockets? Are they typically replaced with the timing belt?
thanks bro thanks to your video I did my timing belt yesterday 👍
Kul med svensk ez30 video !
I love the red cars 🚗 tdis are the best
That was a nice mk4 tdi 4motion. I would have found a scrappier donor car
Same on 1.9 tdi 90 AGR ? Thanks bro
Same engine this one is for usa
@tedyyyy123 thanks bro thanks to your video I did my timing belt yesterday 👍
would a wobbling crank pulley or harmonic balancer whatever it's called that's on my serpentine cause hard starting the odd time?
what happened to this project?
What engine code do you have exactly? I am interested because the front mount did not fit properly. Then I can possibly avoid this block when looking for a donor car. Although it is strange that it does not fit because the engine mounts of a mk4 tdi are all the same as far as I know. I love your videos, they really help me!
Jedidiah Springs
Mine stands 2.8% a little bit above the green is that a problem?
You rock man..thank you vey much🙂💪
I own a professional carpet cleaning machine that has an upholstery wand that I do auto cleaning I'm in Tacoma WA but if you contact someone small and local you can get really good prices if you pay in cash as most of us little guys are struggling at the moment. We can get ALL of the mold out down through the padding the first time with very hot water and professional carpet cleaning detergents followed by oder naturalizing spray all in a 30 minute lunch break. I just did a similar job for 70 bucks that had split formula milk and mold stains all over I hope this helps someone out there
Maybe im missing something in this video You show how to adjust duty cycle on the AFN but not timing, You show how to set timing on the ALH but not duty cycle I have a 03 1.9 TDI ALH with help of this video I found out how to adjust duty cycle in the VCDS Adaptation
XLNT !! Thanks... big help sir. I sure wish you had more vids.. I know they must be a pain to make. You have no idea how much we appreciate the ones you have up here in the USA.. Cheers
Very good 👍
I suggest using a light weight grease or even vasaline on the gears and guides. Oil will run down and onto your timing cover and mess with the sealant you've put on there.
Thanks buddy, really helpful.
I’ve managed to get the TDI timing graph on my ASV to be spot on but the cold start valve still floats around 2.8-3.2 with the IQ value floating between 3.2-3.4. Will it being at this value damage anything because the specified and actual timing is only 1.0 degree difference and the car runs incredibly well and his much better fuel economy than when it was retarded. Just worrying about damaging the injection pump or the cold start valve.
I came here to see your progress but was sad to see it stopped here, any updates?
Actually they recommend on the instructions to allow the silicone to dry for up to an hour after you have put the components together and just nipped them up. Then you can tighten all the way to spec torque. This is so you don't push all the sealant out when it is still very soft, if you tighten everything up straight away.
Thank you very very much 👌
I wanna see updates! I will build a caddy tdi someday because of this!
Thanks..... I have the AHF engine and it look exactly the same..... Did my timing belt 2 years ago and its almost time again to do so..... Just came to refresh my memory lol..... I have the OEM Cam sprocket with the locking hole so i dont think i need to remove the vacuum pump then.... My torque wrench was stolen when they broke into my car so i will just mark the bolts and nuts when installing back
How to check TDI1.9 timing
Nice informative video-at exactly the right time as i have just changed belt/tensioner on my AFN!
I gotta ask, what is that vw. ive never seen a tdi mounted like its driving the rear wheels
It's the older generation of passat (B5). They have a longitudinally mounted engine despite being either front wheel drive or awd.
@@cactusapesgarage6580 so your one is awd
this should be basically the same as 1.9tdi 81kw afn from audia6? the toolkit will fit? thinking to buy
Yes, the gates toolkit I used is for all 1.9 TDi models. However, if you buy something other than the Gates toolkit I can't be certain of it. Good luck!
Hey really enjoying this build . Any updates?
Hey, thank you! It has sadly been on the backburner for a while now, though some more progress have been made. The firewall + frame rails have been cut out of the golf, so next step is to cut up the caddy and weld it in. Have also been tampering with a new subframe and suspension setup for the rear in cad. I think you can expect a new episode in 1-2 months, just waiting on the snow to melt away.
What do you mean by AFM?
you absolutely don't have to remove the cam sprocket or injection pump and you absolutely don't have to adjust the IQ after doing a tb
Technically, you should. Sure, the engine will run even if you skip those steps, but potentially not as good as it could. The engine is designed to allow for the cam and injection pump sprocket to be rotated when tensioning the belt. If you don't allow it to do that, by loosening said sprockets, then what do you think will happen when you remove the locking pins? The tensioned belt will pull the camshaft and pump counter-clockwise by some degree. Thus potentially making the engine run worse, you may not notice it, but that will most likely happen. It takes a maximum of 5 more minutes of doing it the correct way. You can be lazy and do shoddy mechanics all you want, but imo you shouldn't teach it to others.. especially not potential beginners. Regarding the IQ, I think I mentioned that it is a good idea to check it IF it needs an adjustment. However it was years ago that I made this clip so I'll have to watch it to make sure.
Is it possible to contact you through e-mail, or some other social platform with direct messaging?
Hi, I am getting back to making this channel active again. Will setup a new IG etc and update the channel with links to them within a few days, feel free to DM me there when it's done. Can try to get back to this comment and update you!
The single most useful and informative video on TH-cam on this subject. Even if manipulation isn’t in your plan, understanding these concepts hasn’t been explained anywhere else on TH-cam. Your explanation is so clear and thorough! More alh tech and tuning videos please!!!
Bro. how many oring you replace just help me i want to know. Thanks
Hello. I'm planning a TDI swap in my MK1 Diesel. Could you give me a link from where you bought the engine mounts? And are they plug & play? Thanks
Hello. thank you for such detailed description. Would you have a standard value for fuel quantity on group 001?
Hello! What values should the advance have on a 1.9 Tdi AXR PD WV Golf MK4 engine?
AWESOME VIDEO BRO, BRO MOMENT
Where you buy the parts at
did you ever do anymore at this
I dont get why we need to adjust high presure pump ...when you changed timing belt ...isnt there a locking hole where we lock the high presure pump? Now if you try to lock crankshaft in tdc and camshaft then pin for high presure pump wont fit in....did I misunderstand something here?
he doesn’t reply to comments so good luck
So much easier with engine out !
I should have been listening harder during the first 15 seconds of the video when you mentioned this was an ALH. I was gearing up to do my AHU belt and noticed this had two timing belt idler pulleys vs the one pulley in my AHU kit. Had a mini panic attack and after searching around realized I indeed had all of my required parts.
Hey brother hope all is well, quick question where did you get the blue air hose? Thank you
Is there a way to ajust the timing just using the 004 metering blocks?? i ask as i've just done a top end rebuild and am a little out of money....... i have the unregestered VCDS so i can see my 004 line duty is about 55% but i can't see the graph. I am tempted to turn the pump slightly anticlockwise and see if it helps or not.
