"After the Money" The Incredibly Simple KISS Podcast, Stupid
THE FINAL EPISODE!
KISS is an American rock band formed in New York City in 1973 by Paul Stanley (vocals, rhythm guitar), Gene Simmons (vocals, bass guitar), Ace Frehley (lead guitar, vocals), and Peter Criss (drums, vocals). Known for their face paint and stage outfits, the group rose to prominence in the mid-1970s with shock rock-style live performances which featured fire-breathing, blood-spitting, smoking guitars, shooting rockets, levitating drum kits, and pyrotechnics.
What a long strange trip it's been...
While Kiss continued to exist publicly as Simmons, Stanley, Kulick and Singer, arrangements for a reunion of the original lineup were in the works. These efforts culminated with a public event as dramatic as any the band had staged since its 1983 unmasking on MTV.
In September 1998, the reunited group issued Psycho Circus. Although it was the first album with the original lineup since 1979's Dynasty, the contributions of Frehley and Criss were minimal. While the images of Frehley and Criss are featured prominently on the album, most of the lead guitar work was later revealed to have been performed by future band member Tommy Thayer.
In October 2009, a new studio album, titled Sonic Boom, was released. Their next album Monster was released in October 2012.
At the end of the band's final show in New York City, it was announced that the band would live on as digital avatars for fully virtual stage show performances, which was created by Industrial Light and Magic and Pophouse, who had previously created ABBA's similar ABBAtar digital presentation. While Simmons stated that $200 million was being invested for the avatars,[264] the first digital avatar shows are set to start in 2027, with Thayer stating in a January 2024 interview that it would "take some time to get the imagery" where the band would want it to be, regarding it as the future of entertainment.

    Hotter than Hell… such a unique sound. I always saw that album as a live album where they played in the sex dungeon photographed. I assumed Japan wanted KISS and they paid for a trip. My mind went nuts as a 6 year old trying to understand Hotter than Hell. I would NEVER touch Hotter than Hell for remastering beyond the 1997 remasters … Coming Home is SUPPOOSED to sound like shit. I’ll probably be commenting again while listening lol thanks guys this feels cathartic.

    The more I listen the more I feel like These are the friends I always needed growing up lol.. I had the bohemian upbringing with KISS where they looked so vivacious like the New York Dolls and loud as Mahavishnu Orchestra with a mask of pro wrestling kayfabe. I never could pay much attention to the truth of the numbers. When the truth of personnel on Destroyer, I was never turned back on to KISS…. Going to listen to Wicked Lester now.

    I appreciate and love the rawness of Hotter Than Hell. There's just something about their first two albums and Alive that are missing from the rest of their work. The only other albums that I still enjoy listening to occasionally are Destroyer (a fan favorite) Music from The Elder (which is loathed by most) and Lick It Up.

    You left out that Bob Ezrin produced Alice Cooper from the beginning! I think “Dressed to Kill” is their best recording sound-wise of an album, and “Rock and Roll Over” is their best overall album musically. I stopped listening to them sometime in the fall of ‘78. That embarrassing Kiss TV movie then the solo albums did it for me. When toddlers and families are showing up to the shows, it was hard to justify them in the world of hard rock. By ‘79 Kiss had some serious competition and they blew it with those horrible ‘Dynasty’ era costumes and being in high school listening to Kiss during that era was embarrassing…

    • @davidlawler8295
      @davidlawler8295 ปีที่แล้ว

      It actually wasn't. The Hotter Than Hell shoot was in Los Angeles, and Frehley had been in a serious car accident that damaged his face. Some trick photography duplicated the side of his face that wasn't injured as he was told not to put makeup on that side, and as you can see from the informal nature of the picture, the photo was not altered in any way, and it was taken in New York City.

    • @sobfatrick
      @sobfatrick ปีที่แล้ว

      @davidlawler8295 possibly but Paul has his tattoo and he got that June 1 1974. Also, there is a discrepancy with that photo shoot as yes he had half his makeup for some pics, but there are numerous shots from the same shoot (the back of the album craziness) where Ace is in full make up. Perhaps it was a different day

    @1:18:21 "Fuck you, KIϟϟ fans--I hate you guys." End quote.🙄 That comment, along with a thorough listen through every other KIϟϟ episode you've posted, tells me you have as much disdain for your audience as you do for fact-checking The Incredibly Stupid KIϟϟ Podcast, Simple. You could have at least justified the episode title by ripping on Gene's mid-80s look, but apparently you'd rather continue to blow smoke up Vinnie's flaky ass. To be fair, I did meet him in 1986 on the first VV Invasion tour, and he couldn't have been nicer--which makes the way he consistently treats his fans nowadays that much more puzzling.

    • @davidlawler8295
      @davidlawler8295 ปีที่แล้ว

      I absolutely hate KISS fans, can't stand them. I hate most fans of most things, situations, products, movies, and musicians. It is the work, not the fandom. For me. I'm not of the fan personality. Autographs mean very little to me. I don't do conventions and concerts. I don't stalk. I generally want to be left alone. You can hate the fans, and enjoy the music. The two are mutually exclusive ideas. You can even hate members of a band, and still enjoy the music. Fans ultimately destroy the things they love, and fans have destroyed KISS as much as the band has destroyed it. Vinnie Vincent wrote 80% of the Lick It Up album - he saved KISS at a time when the band should've drowned. So there.

  • @fidoflint
    @fidoflint ปีที่แล้ว

    I must admit, it's refreshing to enjoy a KIϟϟ podcast made by a couple film geeks who clearly aren't huge fans; the upside is fresh perspective. But the downside is that neither of you have done much research to avoid factual inaccuracy. Vinnie's Joanie Loves Chachi connection is trivia, at best--not his "main claim to fame" before joining the band. Sure, he'd previously formed bands with The Young Rascals' Felix Cavaliere (Treasure) and, later, members of New England (Warrior), but to the general public, Vincent Cusano was largely unknown. And Gene's "self-destructive" comments refer to Vinnie's well-established tendency to sabotage virtually every break he's ever gotten with erratic behavior that borders on delusional. Yet you insist that description is "in no way true". Your unabashed hatred for Gene Simmons is downright laughable when expressed in the same breath as "[Vinnie]'s still loved by the fans"...you make so much noise about Gene's greed, painting him as the bad guy when it comes to the Vincent relationship, but you conveniently avoid addressing Vinnie's ludicrous attempts to fleece his still-shrinking fanbase with $3,500 guitar picks & $7,500 merch bundles, not to mention the thousands of dollars worth of pre-orders taken on box sets that are STILL undelivered. "Gene and Paul tried reaching out to Ace and Peter to play on the last couple of shows and they said 'nope'..." ??? Where did you hear that? There was a lot of back and forth over that issue and none of it went like that. You mention Peter Criss being a jazz drummer and going to Juilliard? No, and never happened. And apart from being pictured on the cover, Ace Frehley had *zero* to do with Creatures--no guitar, no "turn it up", no nothing. C'mon, guys--do some research BEFORE you cut the podcast.

As for the power Ballads issue ,1st of all they were called Power Ballads because they contained Power Chords drenched in distortion therefore 'Beth' doesn't qualify & Thin Lizzy who were massively popular in the 70's after Whiskey in the Jar & Boys are Back in Town charted, wrote heaps of them ,some albums contained 1or 2..Still in Love With You originally on Nitelife later reappeared on 'Live & Dangerous' is probably My favorite, others were 'Didn't I' from 'Chinatown' & 'With Love' from Black Rose etc.
