Nocturne FLUID DRIVE™ pedal

This is a beautiful medium to low gain overdrive and *transparent boost w a unique original gain staging that keeps the guitar nice and clear in the mix. EQ is very flat/ neutrally transparent (lays inside almost underneath the fundamental guitar signal, fluid!) and yet can color the gain w great versatility and Crunch. Utilizing cut style EQ controls and a generous gain boost w very dynamic as...

I love how RJ in this video takes this pedal to new sonic textures I'd not considered when I built it. This one is simple.. take a late 70's White Label bud box R*t pedal & tweak its values and components so when you turn up your old fullerton era amp or vintage brit plexi, you can keep the inherent twang and jangle of your guitar but harness that grindy tube clip at decent volume. Got to menti...

How do they compare to the tv classics? I’ve been debating on swapping them out
thats what this video is about. it came w classics... this video was ten yrs ago. I still have Setzer Sigs in my orange SSU. In my current white falcon I have a Classic+ in the bridge w a setzer sig neck. Classics are blurred more in the lows and a tad more snark in the upper mids. a great pickup for the bridge and w overdrive but I want the setzer sig in the neck for individual string clarity and over all better balance between the strings for dynamics.
I have the Jr. Barnyard and cant decide if the HW version is that much different from the one i have now. Definitely will be picking up the El Pescadoro though, Any cool colors you have planned for the El Pescadoro?
same exact circuit, just different control layout. handwire lets you stomp in and out the hot channel while the single stomp version uses a blend pot. Its circuit board doesnt use hand wire leads and through hole components, which is why its much more cost efficient and hence the lower price. El Pescadoro is avail to pre order in hot tamale candy red. -tv
Can I kindly ask how you connect an overdrive in the loop of the pedal
ya sure. using a stereo 1/4" cable that splits to dual mono 1/4" (listed at the bottom of the product page) one side is send, the other is return.
“This is where it’s at kids”… Amen and amen. Can’t wait to take delivery.
It’s sound like jimmy page at Madison square 1973
Very transparent overdrive. I like it.
The one question we all secretly want to know... Can it Van Halen?
Good lord, that's some fine playing! What a sound!
Great demo brother. I’m so worried that these younger generations are gonna let Gretsch die because it’s n “old guy boomer guitar.” Hopefully not because of guys like you and me are doing our best to pass it on. Many thanx!!!
Vintage sound on the Strat
Reminds me of Ronnie Earl’s tone with that Strat.
Criminality underrated
God, that guitar sounds great! Especially with that amp.
I got #33 😆sno globe white
I'm gonna learn this and play it while I praise Jesus !
Praise Jesus! Great Job !
Sounds great. Nice song too
Ehh, ehh, I think you have a ehh ehh speaking disability, ehh ehh, that you should ehh ehh work on. People around you will ehh ehh get crazy listening to it.
That pedal ALSO works wonders through any Solid State amp!
Nice sound
NOCTURNE BRAIN, what settings can you get that Chess Drain Pipe Reverb? I'm trying to get that Chess Drain Pipe Reverb but not sure what settings to use. It sound be better to have a Drain Pipe Switch settings to do all the hard work for me instead of dialing in for hours to get that Drain Pipe Cheese records sound. The preamp section should have a 3rd Footswitch to get that Lovepedal CHAMP pedal tone which gets those 50's small amp small speaker sound.
Got mine two weeks ago. Love it. I play a lot of stray cats. This pedal is perfect.
I was under the impression Setzers sslvo was a faithful reproduction of his 59 with a 2.75" deep body. Is this not the case then?? Great presentation by the way!
That compound radii was made by TV Jones in its day, maybe the V shape too. That guitar, the original Smokin’, he put a seriously work on it. Listening to you I believe that neck must be a pleasure to play. Maybe is something like the Fender 57 Soft V-Shape, but thinner? I prefer the bold tone, the looks and the simple layout of the Steve Wariner’s Gretsch signature, but the neck and softly round body edges of the Setzer must be delicious. Greetings!
That does not sound like 50s slapback Echo sorry
Its not based on anything from the 50s. Its based on a 1979 Roland Space Echo. :) BUT!!.. there is an echoplex preamp on the wetside of the slapback.. there is a trimpot to boost or cut that preamp. Also internally there is a presence cut switch to warm up the pedal more. versatility is its middle name
Nice Engelhardt
Bravo!! 👏😃
This is really good
🔥😮🔥
One of these days, I'll be able to get one of these I hope 😍🔥
I love listening to you play 🔥
absolutely fantastic guitar tones! love it!
thanks for the video and insight
The tone difference is probably body size. Plus if they have different bracing. Enjoyed the video. Thanks!
its the same guitar, the setzer phoenix but we did a pickup swap. the body size of the guitar nor the bracing was affected in anyway :)
@@beerbilly Oh Sorry. I thought in the video I heard the mention that the Black Phoenix sounded different than the 6120. My point was it will. If I recall the Black Phoenix is the same size body as a falcon (17" I believe) opposed to the width of the 6120 which is 16". That makes a difference in tone. Plus if the bracing is different. I have several Gretches all with filtertrons. The Bracing and body size definitely affect the tone. I can see where the Setzer Sig PUP cleans up the tone as I have installed it in a couple of mine where the low end was muddy.
Oh and BTW love my Detroit Casket!
@@mikegraff509 yep there is a huge difference between a falcon and a nashville, especially the scale length. 25.5" on the falcon and 24.6" on the nashvilles. I share tone differences in nashvilles, like my 6120SSU vs 6120 setzer smoke in this vid here th-cam.com/video/ihj1pBYC-Kw/w-d-xo.html
@@beerbilly oh yea and I forgot to mention the thickness of the body. the newer nashvilles are a bit skinner than the 59 models (Smoke). So yea not only scale length but the build is different enough. Its not something I thought about until I ended up with different models. Would use one as a back up and realize my tone shifted. I have an Electromatic that has the A bracing, but is thicker than my 6120 Nashville, I am guessing what ever wood they use is affecting the tone too. The thing is super heavy compared to any of the pro models that I have. However the Setzer Sig PUP and a decent set up got it dialed in much closer to the Pro models tone wise. Hollow bodies are basically acoustics with electronics. So the build really seams to affect tone. Where with solid body guitars I don't notice a tone shift (minimal if any). Again thanks for your video(s), they are always insightful!
Chess Records? Live 1940s club performance? Oh wait it's in a modern mall setting. Sweet sweet playing / singing by Tommy and Nico. Why people are riding the escalator and not paying attention is near unfathomable!!! I was there I'd be right in the front. This is the blues people!
Camera perspective is focuses on Tommy & Nico as well as my Nocturne amp :). Thats the packing house in anaheim and the stage is set midway between the lower and upper food/bar courts. so on the level above the stage its completely encircled by people watching, as well as those below watching. Also worth noting, the whole place is just food n brew w the stage, centric. ps.this was also during NAMM show week!
Really nice playing, cool tones for sure.
Beautifully played, and love the Gretsch sound, easily my favourite guitar.
What an amazing player
Dude, even years later I can learn so much just from watching you play, great bite with TV’s Fluid Drive 🔥🔥💥
Great video and analysis. Thank you very much and great playing!
Got one and as a lover of that 40s/50s Blues sound the description on the website is not exaggerated.
I try to avoid hyperbole, its not helpful to guitar players :)
Sounds incredible!
Awesome pedal Tavo, still love my Nailhead Trem! Glad youre still creating away :-)
thanks! one foot in front of the other! :) :)
Oh, man, that is so, so tasty! How sweet it is!
thanks!
Oh man! I have a 6120 i run into a Fender supersonic and an old Marshall 4/12, I need to get one of these! Do you sell direct at your site? - tom
yes. www.thenocturnebrain.com
I got your OG Ubangi Stomp but not gonna lie ... I want this one TOO! 😆
its a little easier to get to the controls :) And the internal uppermids boost/cut trimmer that is now a control knob up top is the game changer to me for its interactiveness w tone and gain. I should have done this yrs ago. In the same breath if you have one of the handwired tag board built Ubangi Stomps, DONT sell it. That was so labor intensive back in the day, and it was a team effort w my son etching the tag boards, populating the boards w all the curated components, soldering them etc. He was a high school kid doing this stuff. I guess Im being too sentimental ha! :)
@@beerbilly Thank you for sharing that sentiment! This one was built 8/18 on a PCB so I don't think it is tag board ... but I am still extremely honored to have it and no way am I ever gonna sell it!! Cheers!
me too! :) Pizz or Arco?
I’d love to hear a demo of how an upright bass sounds through it.
Today i got mine.❤ And it was a real journey to get my hands on one. I could have just clicked the "Buy" button on the website, but the price incl. shipping fees easily went over the magic 400$ mark wich is the number for custom problems importing pedals to Germany. Over 400$ the taxes and import fees are ~350$ wich have added up the pedal to almost 780$. So there is no way i can spend this much on a pedal. Luckily after weeks i found one on Ebay located in EU and got it for about 300$. I'm totally happy and it's clear this is a keeper in combination with the Keeley Memphis Sun pedal. I own about 12 different Delay pedals and even more Overdrives but the Mystery Brain beats them all. I can't exactly tell what the secret is, but i makes a great job combining preamp, delay and modulation. Yes, some of my Echos may sound a hair better but all in all the Mystery Brain is the winner in one box.
glad you can share the magic now :) well.. rather the "magic" that you make using it haha. cheers,tv
@@beerbilly Thank you so much for the response! You and your pedal made an old man happy 😊
Thanks for the demo tavo
you bet Greg! cheers
