Duane Eddy, Forty Miles of Bad Road, filmed live at the Cheese And Grain in Frome, Somerset UK on 24th May 2012. This was the first time I've ever filmed anything, so apologies for any wobbles. Happy birthday Duane! Was at this gig, the band were great, particularly the sax player whose name I have sadly forgotten in the mists of time. We sat outside in the sun before the gig, just chatting with Duane and admiring each other's boots! Wonderful capture.
Awesome! I should turn up early to things! I've still got some footage of this gig on an old drive I keep meaning to dig out. I don't know if I mentioned it on the post but the band were Richard Hawley's band. Yes, the sax player was fantastic, and I thought they all did a great job of keeping an authentic 50's/60's sound.

Mr Eddy wasn’t heard of for many years but did do a lot of help recording with Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood.There was more to him in the recording buisness.

I first heard this wonderful tune in the early 60s . We were at a party in a flat in Egmont Close (Malta) and Anne Kidd, who lived in the flat had just bought the disc and she played it all evening .
I used to listen to radio Caroline every night at 9,00 every night ! Johnny walker was fantastic ! Me and the other apprentices had a minuets silence when the government took it off !!! Bastards
Love this tune. Always felt it should have been the theme tune to a great western, not to the film of the same name.

I was twelve years old in 1960 when this song was released. Being in junior high at the time, was he thinking about me? Did he have us chil'en in mind when he wrote this? That's what went through my mind whenever I listened to this on the radio.

Its a baritone guitar
Tuned 1 octave lower than a standard guitar. Duane got that lowdown and dirty twang on an inexpensive Danelectro masonite guitar he bought in Hollywood, CA. Featured it prominently on his Twang's the Thang LP.

Hans Vrenken Funny you should mention Radio Caroline. When I was 13 or14 yrs old I could get Radio Caroline on the Marine band in Boston Mass. at certain times. I wonder how many other in the U.S. were listening to it too. Not many I'm sure.

Johnnie Walker: UK disc jockey. Radio Caroline (one of the offshore UK pirates of the 60s), BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 1.
Johnny Walker came to the US around 1976-77 and worked at the legendary KSAN for about a year. The stories he told about the Radio Caroline days were amazing...

dannie if you'd have listened to the great man he told you what / who Johnnie Walker was/is but if you don't know about Radio Caroline what planet are you on?
Let's put it this way. A hell of a lot more of people have heard of Johnnie than will ever hear of you.
I was so excited to hear Duane dedicate this to Johnnie Walker, one of the best disc jockeys the world has ever known.
