Stirling Silliphant, the 2nd important man in Bruce Lee’s life
#brucelee #stirlingsilliphant #bewater
As we all know, Bruce Lee got his breakout role after starring in “The Green Hornet” TV series as Kato, who was very good at martial arts:
Unfortunately, the series only ran for one season and failed to further his stardom. Bruce Lee’s celebrity student Stirling Silliphant was not satisfied to see such an extraordinary martial arts wizard disappear at this stage, so he looked for acting opportunities for Bruce Lee under his influence as far as possible.
The 1969 American detective film “Marlowe” was screen-written by Stirling Silliphant. Bruce Lee played a mob henchman who attempted to intimidate a private detective, Marlowe, into dropping a case. One of the most memorable scenes in the movie is when the character played by Bruce demolishes the office of Marlowe. Let us take a look at this scene-stealing part of the film:
Bruce had completed the whole violent scene just in one continuous movement.
Silliphant ranked this scene as the best-ever martial arts scene in American film history.
"A Walk in the Spring Rain" is a 1970 American romantic drama film produced by Stirling Silliphant. Bruce Lee served as the choreographer of the film. Let us enjoy the two fight scenes in it:
Here, we can see how Bruce Lee choreographed street fighting, which involves no restrictions on techniques, making it potentially deadly.
With one right hook, the protagonist knocked the guy down. This scene tells us the message that Bruce Lee wanted to convey - to be fast, ruthless, and accurate when facing your opponent.
“Longstreet” was an American Detective Show aired on ABC during the 1971-1972 season. Stirling Silliphant served as the executive producer of the TV series. In the show, Bruce played the role of a Jeet Kune Do expert who helped the main character, Longstreet, a blind insurance investigator, cope with his blindness.
Bruce Lee appeared in only four episodes, but the script incorporated his martial arts philosophy.
Episode 1 is titled "The Way of the Intercepting Fist", in which Bruce Lee introduced the “Be-water” concept.
Before the release of “Longstreet”, Bruce returned to Hong Kong to pursue his dreams in the film industry. The rest of the story is known to everybody. After the death of Bruce Lee, his notes on martial arts philosophy and ideas for achieving a more fulfilling life were open to the public. Among this information, the “Be-water” concept is unarguably the most popular one for any race.
It is fair enough to say that if it were not for Stirling Silliphant bringing the martial arts legend Bruce Lee to the screen through “Longstreet”, the “Be-water” concept may not have become as iconic as it is today. The reputation of Bruce Lee continued to grow and become even more well-known as it spread widely.
People often say there stands a woman behind every great man. In the case of Bruce Lee, his greatness may have been partly due to the support of a man, Stirling Silliphant. In this regard, he may be considered the 2nd important man in Bruce Lee’s life. (The first one is James Yimm Lee)

Bruce Lee was going to get wherever he was going to go no matter what what happened James Lee was a horrible instructor. The school was opened 2 days a week . Howard Williams should’ve been on an episode of snowfall.
It seems that Bruce met James due to destiny. If they didn't meet, Bruce Lee might still be alive😢
The first important man influenced the most. Without him, things may not be started properly. What a pity, James died 7 months before Bruce Lee's death, giving him no chance of watching the legend's brilliant success.😕😕😕
The Chinese call Bruce Lee "King of Kung Fu", but most of the westerners refer him as a hybrid martial artist
I prefer Gung Fu as well as I'm also Cantonese😀😀😀

The repugnant paint-over was intentional. A dove? From mainland China? How was that mural offensive to anyone in that location? One of Bruce's most important legacies is his advocation to "honestly express yourself". Other than his 雙節棍 nunchucku, free thinking is the most dangerous weapon against autocracy. The "government" won't do more; it is doing less than the least on purpose.
What a loss What a pity WTF😢
For good stuff, we should try hard to preserve them😢
