A man nearly forgotten, who should never be forgotten. ❤
Very true, and thanks for visiting the channel.
That's a beautiful poem with a deep meaning demonstrating a true poet's unerring intuition. You're among the very few to read it on TH-cam. Thank you
So glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for visiting the channel.

I'd like to know if this poem is directly concerning the subject's dissent into madness & /or feeling of remorse that keeps him awake at night. OR is there a deeper meaning?
Given his deeply troubled nature, I have always thought of this as a reflection of his own descent into madness.
@@poetryambience9236 That's interesting. I was not aware of his troubles? I'm just discovering him & am curious to know more.
Not the best voice for this reading, but hearing this read was without a doubt worthwhile.
Glad you enjoyed the poem and thanks for visiting the channel. Now, if I just had the voice of a Vincent Price or Boris Karloff........ : - )
@@poetryambience9236 Check out 'The Singer's & Actor's Throat' by Norman A. Punt. There are other books like this as well that describe use of the voice, how it's modulated, and so forth.
I first read this poem in third grade I'm 14 now I had these images in my head that Gabe me this incredible feeling when I read this poem and imagined it it was frightening and interesting as if I was the person narrowing this poem I want to see these images again I see little pieces but can't put them all together the human mind is most complicated
This is definitely a very evocative poem and creates powerful imagery. I'd say you were very perceptive to grasp some of this in the 3rd grade. Thanks very much for the comment and for visiting the channel, and I'm really happy that you enjoy classic poetry.
broo i just took a reading test and THIS WAS THE EXACT POEM BRO legit the poem said at the end play foreign lands by robert or something legit, im on 5th grade bro wth
I'm glad this poem was helpful to you. Yes, the author of the poem is Robert Louis Stevenson, who wrote the great classic book "Treasure Island". I think I read that book when I was in the 5th grade or thereabouts. Good luck to you in your studies and thanks for visiting the channel. You'll find many other classic poems here is you like poetry.
After listening to the outstanding BBC link below, I'm sorry to say I am terribly bias against Mr Hardy. I know, famous artits are frequently very self-absorbed & selfish people. I can not separate my opinion of the artist and his oubre as famous as he is, from the man -- as obtuse a person as I may seem-- ( especially the image of Mr. Hardy as a husband), poor Mrs. Hardy, having to deal with his obession with women in general and his selfishness and arrogance. , and his attachment to his mother and sisters... What an awful life she had to live with him. I can imaging how marrying him, doomed and stagnated her future . th-cam.com/video/_Jgx6ez9LYM/w-d-xo.html
"A dead soul’s epitaph in every face" I love this line. The whole poem is such brilliant description of human nature. Thank you for creating this video.
Glad you enjoyed it. Lowell was indeed a gifted poet and great observer of the human condition. Thanks for visiting the channel.

Thanks so much, and glad you enjoyed it. Wordsworth was truly one of the greats.
👍👍 There is an eloquence to Whittier that words cannot express
I certainly agree. In my view, he is seriously under-appreciated among the great poets of his era. Thanks very much for visiting the channel.
Thank you for doing this.
Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for visiting the channel.
man this banger gets me harder than a diamond in a snow storm
What is the meaning of the poem?
Essentially, that dreams carry us into strange new worlds, feelings, and summon memories we had forgotten. Thanks very much for visiting the channel.
@@poetryambience9236 thankyou
The sea known to a gull is not the same as that known to us. The dream dreamt on this safe land may be short-sighted and shallow compared with that cherished by a gull or a seaman. However, I often go to the sea to dream a dream kept within the horizon and water surface.
A lovely and evocative sentiment. Thanks for sharing, and thanks for visiting the channel and for your interest in great poetry.
