    I'd like to know if this poem is directly concerning the subject's dissent into madness & /or feeling of remorse that keeps him awake at night. OR is there a deeper meaning?

    • @poetryambience9236
      @poetryambience9236 ปีที่แล้ว

      Given his deeply troubled nature, I have always thought of this as a reflection of his own descent into madness.

      I'm glad this poem was helpful to you. Yes, the author of the poem is Robert Louis Stevenson, who wrote the great classic book "Treasure Island". I think I read that book when I was in the 5th grade or thereabouts. Good luck to you in your studies and thanks for visiting the channel. After listening to the outstanding BBC link below, I'm sorry to say I am terribly bias against Mr Hardy. I know, famous artits are frequently very self-absorbed & selfish people. I can not separate my opinion of the artist and his oubre as famous as he is, from the man -- as obtuse a person as I may seem-- ( especially the image of Mr. Hardy as a husband), poor Mrs. Hardy, having to deal with his obession with women in general and his selfishness and arrogance. , and his attachment to his mother and sisters... What an awful life she had to live with him. I can imaging how marrying him, doomed and stagnated her future . th-cam.com/video/_Jgx6ez9LYM/w-d-xo.html

    The sea known to a gull is not the same as that known to us. The dream dreamt on this safe land may be short-sighted and shallow compared with that cherished by a gull or a seaman. However, I often go to the sea to dream a dream kept within the horizon and water surface.
