Now that is a lot of snotlings 😀 In current GW money that would be about $1M (joking slightly)
Scraping the mold lines off them makes it feel like there are a lot :)
Haha. 162 of them? I saw these on ebay. Was so tempting but £160 is going big
Had them for years, and there is about 162 of them! but if I'd seen 162 more on ebay I'd have bought them :) PS The recent region updates make ebay UK not work properly without a VPN so i havnt been buying much recently. I have a UK address to post them to, but don't live in the UK. I have a 4-5 pump wagons to go with them too
@@markysgeeklab8783I did buy some stuff in the last couple do weeks on there and got it sent to a friend okay…you just have to fiddle around with the address a bit including making the UK address your primary to easily get combined shipping etc. But saying that I’m not an expert by any means
Perhaps a random question without notice but are you on any Discord groups for hobby stuff? I’m on one for the Miniature Realms TH-cam channel and it is a really friendly place without internal politics etc. Also a nice place if you were wanting to promote your own work (TH-cam) as there is a section for that or just general sharing of hobby stuff. I commit to the monthly hobby pledge on there which helps a bit keeping you motivated to paint. I like being able to see a wide range of peoples hobby efforts or just to “geek out” on our hobby in general.
Rarely use discord, but I might join that one, I'm also on bugmans brewery forum and used to be on the underempire forum a lot to try and keep my skaven tournament winrate abnormally high :) times have changed though, people don't mind "forums" inside "super apps" now.
@@markysgeeklab8783 previously I just used Discord to call my friends whilst playing a computer game but this has opened up a new side for me. As someone who has rekindled their love for the hobby it is nice to have a space where you can share that. It makes a really big difference being part of a good community rather than just quietly doing hobby by yourself or with a friend or two. There are people from all over the world on there (though it is all in English). I’m in Australia and I remember you are in NZ. Lots of people from the UK not surprisingly
That is some very cool terrain. Very important especially for a game like Necromunda
Now that is a lovely collection of metal dwarfs. I’m a big fan of dwarfs myself particularly the older metal ones like these. Would be cool to see them painted up if that is a project you are working on (or planning on working on)
It is, I've just gone down to working 4 days a week. The Dawi are 2nd in the Q after night gobbos (hardly painted since 2016 so I need a warm up first)... I also need to build retaining walls and a fence and paint a house and landscape a garden first tho :/
@@markysgeeklab8783 sounds like you will be a busy man. I’ve recently gotten back into painting myself after quite a long break maybe 2014? I picked up the Bretonnians army box and I’ve painted all 60 infantry from that box and just started on the first unit of knights. I was pleasantly surprised how quickly I was able to get into the swing of things again. Contrast/Speed paints combined with Underpainting helps speed the process up before the traditional highlights are applied I have about 230 metal dwarfs myself mixed between unit types. A fair number of older plastic dwarfs but not really any of the multipose ones so I’m looking forward to getting the upcoming battalion box
@Svengar great painting project! I'm not sure if I will get the dwarf box??, I want a goblin hewer and some Doom seekers from the made to order & I wish I'd got myself some late 90s iron breakers & miners with the candles instead of 60+ lead thunderers and 40 Rangers, so will grab some if they pop up :) I found another lead gyrocopter in one of my boxes while hunting the other day too.
@@markysgeeklab8783 I love finding minis I had forgotten that I owned. I suppose I don’t really need the battalion box but I’ll pick one up anyway as I don’t have any of those type of plastics. Definitely keen on some of the made to order as well. I’ve got 3 doom slayers but would like more plus that goblin hewer
I would put instead 2 goblins in a single 25mm base
8th edition encouraged massive blocks of troops because at that point the game had massive monsters and wizards that were supposed to cause carnage onto these blocks. It made a lot of sense.
Honestly a 5mm difference isnt that big of a deal. Just takes time getting used to like switching your keyboard layout from qwerty to dvorak. Not easy at first, but once you get used it you'll forget qwerty.
Love these! How did you paint the bases of you don’t mind me asking? Is that static grass + flowers for the greenery?
"Wet brush" of Brown paint over black, dry brush of lighter brown, model train flowers from China and either tufts from army painter or static grass
@@markysgeeklab8783thanks chief!! Are you on any platforms where I might find some close ups? :)
They look quality. Just dug oot all my high elves gna have to extend all the bases now
Where did you pick the army up? Or you always had it on a shelf?
I've been buying bits of it over the last 31 years :) I just bought old units and collections when I saw them on ebay or at occasional 2nd hand mini sales. One of my regrets is selling a couple of other armies when I was about 20ish and "needed" the money to go out partying... I still have quite a few tho! PS I did put one vid of opening a collection I bought on my channel
Still waiting for Cathay
We will be waiting a long time I fear..
Are you confident about what the base size will be?
I'm confident that dwarves will be on 25mm bases. I'm printing trays for 20mm bases to upsize them to 25mm... I was about to base some "fresh" 90s lead dwarves on 25s then I thought, hold on a minute, I've got a 3d printer.
Just use the arms from the squig hoppers kit. They're much more dynamic and take a bit more space than the classic stabbas' arms, that are really close to the body. That doesn't solve the problem for the shootas though, or for the netters (although their nets are quite large already, so maybe they can fill the 25mm base as well)
No matter how good the miniatures and paint are, angular bases ruin everything. A square gives visual angles to the stand, and any angle, due to the peculiarities of our visual perception, attracts undue attention. And it turns out that something that should dissolve, be the basis of the base, a stand for the model, something that destroys the naturalness of the miniature, and should be as neutral and hidden as possible come to the foreground. Therefore, miniatures on squares look more “toy-like” than on circles. Less "natural".
I understand your viewpoint. I even considered a round based warband for mordheim once. I think it changes when they are placed in units though, I don't like units or squads on round bases when they touch each other. I still prefer my game pieces on squares, but if it was purely for display or for a skirmish game like necromunda, then I like round bases
From a gaming perspective square bases are objectively superior as they provide more information than round bases, since they have four different facings that can be measured accurately and objectively. This adds factors to be taken into account by players which forces them to make tactical decisions and commit to them. Conversely, round bases are vague and uncommitted, facings are unclear, and they reduce tactical depth.
Wow! Ambitious
*PromoSM* 😘
Wow that printed terrain looks really good. I’m hoping too that GW brings back some of their fantasy kits. Would be great for the castle to make another appearance
Very cool terrain
Thanks, I'm planning on sharing where I downloaded them and all the pros and cons of the different buildings I print for use in the old world
Class vid man. I hope to god old world is quality btw. I kept all my armies so hope they are all valid xD
It's disturbing and a bad omen that they've included so many tedious mechanics that may seem OK in isolation but when combined together equal the bloated rulebooks of previous editions which, let's remember, were part of the reason the game had to be squatted: most people are just not going to play it. And if this game doesn't get a lot of new players, it's going to be dropped by GW, or certainly you're not gonna get any new plastics. Why on earth are there subphases, the Strat and Movement phases are a mess of subphases. Why on earth do I have to make sure I carry out all my charges first, then normal moves? Why on earth do I have to change my blooming formation just so I can do a 3 movement Action: give me a token. Why on earth am I MEASURING wheeling and pivots: that's a leftover custom from when a single model could represent 10-20 soldiers. Great that counter-charges are in. It's very odd that Charge ranges are so short: maybe the table size is much smaller?
I hope the game uses lots of double use kits from AOS or 40k (daemons) - that should make it viable for GW to support it if it doesn't get lots of players. The wheeling and pivoting is a personal taste thing - Kings of war is a lot more streamlined, but I quite like the "tetris" part of the game (planning and making my blocks fit in the spaces they need to be in). Hopefully the sub phases are mainly there to make the game simpler to play and to stop people like me exploiting so many things in the game to win at tournaments (I regularly used rat darts & skitterleap in 8th to bog down deathstars). Counter charges are interesting, I hope they work in a similar way to the old empire detachments as that was quite fun. I'm still positive about this and I am looking forward to my first game :)
"I hope the game uses lots of double use kits from AOS" You'd think that wouldn't you - but all those Warhammer Fantasy models that GW made and slapped a AoS brand onto, such as trolls and fanatics, are absent from the pics so far: in fact we've seen the OLD trolls and they used the OLD treeman !! @@markysgeeklab8783
Very helpful, thank you.
Unit size might be quite important with those morale rules at play as small units will particularly find it hard to pass leadership tests I would think. Combined with being able to attack with all of the front rank regardless of base contact large units might be seen quite regularly. Still we haven’t seen all the rules yet so there might be other rules that offset this thinking
I think you are likely to be right. GW saying that the new bretonian bowmen unit will sell as a box of 32(36?) models + them having playtesters now, makes me think big units working well in game is very very likely.
@@markysgeeklab8783 I thought it was pretty cool when they said you would get 32 archers which is twice what the old kit was. Obviously price is a factor as you don’t want to just pay twice for the twice as many minis. They will need to have some pretty special rules for the Bretonnian knights since there won’t be an advantage to fancy formations otherwise…will be interesting to find out
Well done
Why am I so excited for a release that I have no intention of purchasing?
im sweating with my 500 zombies and 250 ghoules......
Haha I thought my 200+ skeletons was going to be bad :)
Why don't just use slotted trays? BTW Never seen a vampire army that hadn't had at least one 5*20mm gravestone placeholder 😅
wel sounds goood me i just what get back to the rank fell l stuff but will we get a holy hand GRANDE ? and killer bunnys and guys like tim the sosser ?? yes sorry cud not help my self had do that joke but be fun to get back in to it yes army on square bases the whay shud do it and if have be on 25MM then so BE it
The greed of Games Workshop will destroy them. In my opinion, one of the most important motives for closing “fantasy battles” was the increased aggressiveness of fantasy fanboys towards new fresh people. All the elitists, grognards, gatekeepers did practically nothing for the hobby. They just ranted endlessly about how "FB is better than 40k", never missing an opportunity to make some racist/sexist joke while passing by the table where I play 40k. Now, GW says "welcome back" to this community. How do you imagine playing Age of Sigmar and the "old world" simultaneously in the same room? I’ll say more: at least one of the “old world” fanboys apologized for 8 years of insults and bullying against Age of Sigmar?
There are assholes in almost every social group, it's easy to catogarise people based on the similarities our brains see between them, but I don't think it's reasonable to tar everyone who likes a game with the same brush. Many of us who love warhammer fantasy are as welcoming as possible and love it when anyone shows an interest in our favorite war game... yes we might try to convert you to square bases, yes we might often be the weirdos on the edge of popular wargaming, but that isn't anything bad. I don't see anyone as less deserving of happiness because of the game they enjoy, if my kids or friends like AOS, then I will play AOS, even if it's not my cup of tea. PS my local games club plays AOS and Warhammer Fantasy at the same time on neighboring tables, about 40% (guess) of the players play both games, it's fine.
Didn't the old box of Bretonnian Archers come with 16 models? Never had them myself, but that was a common size for infantry boxes back in the day. So them coming in 32 and it being a whole regiment could indeed give us a rough idea of the size of the game. In regards to the release date I'd guess the 13th or 20th of January.
Yes, Bretonian peasant bowmen had 16 archers and a row of stakes. Last box I remember with 30 models was the regiment of Altdorf... & that was ages ago! 32 is a big box of minis by old warhammer standards, 16 and 20 fig boxes were relatively common, but 30+ hasn't been common since the early 90s.
February 13 🎉
Just in time for valentines day... I'm sure my wife won't mind if I'm too busy building skeletons to take her out :)
10th February is my guess
10th January
I would pick Saturday 10th February as the release date Overall the Bretonnian range looks good. The versatility of the headswaps means the helmets people don’t personally care for don’t have to be used so that isn’t a big deal to me. I’m looking forward to some of the metal figures making a return particularly if that is the case for the dwarves which didn’t always translate well in plastic kits
The plastic dwarves really have a different aesthetic from the old lead dwarves.. that reminds me,I need to get some metal ironbreakers or my dwarf army will need to field plastic if I play a 5000pt game :)
@@markysgeeklab8783 I really love the old metal dwarves, not super easy to get these days sadly. The imperial dwarves were very cool going back to when the empire could field dwarves and halflings. I feel lucky enough to have a decent selection of metal dwarves; miners, Norse, slayers, thunderers, longbeards etc. I even have a cool little metal gyrocopter. I’ve got some plastics as well including about 40 of the regiments boxed set ones. You must have a very decent collection to field 5000 points
I brought a bretonnia army deal about 21 years ago never touched it still boxed new don’t know what to do with it
Does it have the metal men at arms in it? Or the plastic ones? If it was mine I'd either build it, paint it and enjoy it OR sell it and buy a painted army (if you don't have time to build and paint it). If you don't enjoy owning/collecting the sealed box(es) then it's better to make a change... better to a risk successful outcome than guarentee a boring one :)
It was the first army Deal they did it contained a trebuchet 3 Pegasus knights 3 mounted characters one on foot 16 archers 16 knights and 5 questing knights and the army book good deal at the time
Possible new years day release??
Cool channel, keep it up.
Those Beautiful Models from OldHammer!
I have Dwarfs. I can't see them on 25mm bases? HA HA.
Agreed. I’ve got old metal dwarfs, they wouldn’t look good on 25mm
Great comment lol
They do look very nice. Bigger bases have always been a fav of my 30/40K armies, not surprised it makes WHFB look nicer too. Your models get more focus with more base around it.
makes moving around terrain much harder.
Maybe we just need to make the terrain smaller :)
They do look good, I have a High Elf army and they always just squeezed on 20mm bases, with scale creep those tight bases got so tight. I'm looking forward to seeing what the new WHTOW game is like and more importantly, being able to buy miniatures again without the scalpers ebay prices, I need some Sea Guard and White Lions.
I have been buying the old paint set with the 5 sea guard in it whenever I see it for sale to add a rank at a time :) the paint sets don't seem to have as much "ebay tax" as the sea guard without the paints
@@markysgeeklab8783 Oh you devious so-an-so, I'd forgotten there even was a paint set with sea guard.
I've been building goblins on 25's, I tried a 20 and honestly it was just a pain to paint the base. They're obviously a bit more spaced out than you might like (certainly more than I like) but as you say there's opportunities to add aome visual interest. The new AoS foot characters also, mostly, fit on 25mm bases. The Loonboss is a fantastic model. I'm told by a reliable source the move to bigger bases is to accomodate more AoS stuff that's not going to work in tight packed ranks, and some older stuff that had to go together like a jigsaw puzzle (looking at you black orcs).
i think if they make it so everyone in the front rank can fight you would find players would just line their army up end to end with only some excess going into back ranks because if i can line ten guys up and say i catch a 5 wide opposing unit with full ranks or even if i catch a unit of big'uns and some goblins i would be better off inflicting the damage rather then getting rank bonuses and in the case of catching two units i could ever stack all the attacks into the weaker unit to try and brake it early or i would take out the bigger damage threat to reduce the return taking yet more strategy from the game. i could see something like a min over flow of 7 so if you have a face of seven you would get to fight with the full face even if you are fighting a flank with 3 models which would be the same as if you were fighting a face of 5 models with 2 over lapping it would also help with alignment where a unit might not line up 1-1 so even tho the number is right one guy might over hang so the corners of the bases don't quit touch but if you take a face of 10 models you would only get the 8th 9th and 10th models attacks if the opposing face or faces add up to 6 7 or 8 respectably. then you could restrict hoard to some cheep units like goblins scaven slaves and skinks and allow them to fight with full first and second rank rather then three ranks it would actually be a decent mechanic. alternatively they could improve on the 5th editions rap around rules so instead of just moving free models from the flanks onto the flanks of the engaged unit you could say if your charge is so strong it would carry you pass the other unit you could shift models from back ranks around the units flank basically one rank for every inch of excess 1" you would get one guy around 2" 2 guys and you could move guys out from iner ranks but it would be an additional inch for every space in they are and you would only count as flank charging if you can get two full ranks onto the flank. but they would also need to town down charges from 8th they were to easy back in the day charging was your move you didn't move then roll to charge but you would add your move too a D6 rather then move and roll two d6 and you had to close the gate with the charge not go well one guy made it so everyone closes in i think you could cancel the charge by just moving your movement and ignoring the dice tho you could still be shot.
I hope they add some rules that make side ways conga lines (I'm going to call it "can can formation".. I should TM that fast!) A very risky option, if can can formation Gets loads of attacks, but is largely immobile and will get wrecked by a small dart if it rear charges the rear then it would be ok..
Okay I love this idea! It's also like a little display case. Hurt like going to be trying this myself. Thank you for making this video. You did shatter my ears with the Bell again. I'm starting to hate that bell! LOL
Where's the box from. You don't get very clear, thick plastic very often.
I know it's always unwise to read too much into Community Posts as its clear the writer knows little of what he's talking about and working off notes shoved on his desk but... more circumstantial evidence the game is DESIGNED TO FAIL is present: "large armies". As everyone should know part of the reason why Warhammer Fantasy failed was the demand for bigger and bigger armies (and price) was just too damn steep and that crushed the ability to recruit and retain players. So when GW claim the game is of "large fantasy battles" (AoS are already pretty much the level an average game should be of Fantasy) it implies they're doing the exact same mistake of the past. With purpose this time.
Hopefully they design the rules to be good at larger sized games... BUT also work for a fun smaller game. I agree battle size creep was a big problem getting new players for WFB - partly because of the existing player base not playing 1000pt games much. The "so I just need to buy and paint 200 minis and I can try the game??" effect was definitely a problem.
That loud and ear piercing bell ring at the end is not cool. The volume level of your speech is low. Had my sound turned up so I could hear what you were saying. That bell ring was much louder. Painfully loud.
I will up the volume for the next vid (same settings as normal but seems quieter). I also normally remember to adjust the volume on the bell down Sorry :)
I didn't find it loud. What I didn't like was the rat swarm that attacked me shortly afterwards.
@@markysgeeklab8783 thank you! Other than that it was a great video.
@@scepteredisle lol. Very amusing,
I feel like armies and battles are going to look like what we see on total war warhammer... infantry there are nearly exclusively in the widest thinnest formation the game allows them to be in. I'm not sure I like this, but there isn't enough information to go off of right now. I'm more disappointed that a lot of these ranked infantry units are losing that shoulder-to-shoulder feel. I don't know how people were having problems ranking units up if they weren't careless in the assembly stage. It was a completely unnecessary change.
I hope you are wrong about total war long thin lines! GW could avoid this by making sure it would be easy to out manouver big lines of infantry with multiple small units and making sure a flank/rear charge would wipe them out. The base change was probably just so GW could make sure their profit was maximized by standardizing base sizes for infantry at the size they need to be for some of the new AOS minis to be used in both games. Not ideal, but I can live with goblins on 25mm easier than I can live with the fantasy (on square base) community slowly disappearing.
@@markysgeeklab8783 i guess so. We'll see. I tihnk I will keep my stuff on 20mm anyways,
@@markysgeeklab8783 we now have the answer with the wheeling rules. Going to very had to charge things with big units. Also from playing KOW, its generally accepted by everyone that the "horde" units are weaker than 2x regiments that are half the width because of overall mobility, charge mobility and the horde's vulnerability to multiple incoming charges.
i actually despise these new bases. worst possible thing they could've done. Also the island blood high and battle of skull pass models are the worst least detailed models every made for WHFB (with the notable exception of the high elf prince on griffon). All the retro metal models are better, as well as models you find from 3rd party manufacturers.
Funnily enough I've had that high elf on griffin built since IOB came out in perfect condition & I accidentally bent the lance yesterday :) I like the IOB models, the BFSP dwarves are not my taste (i like my dwarves lead), but I do quite like the night goblins. I think the 25mm bases will help the night goblins from IOB look a bit more varied as they can be based at jaunty angles. Also I'm pretty sure GW could have done something worse than change the base sizes... let's wait and see what they do to the rules before we decide what the worst thing they could do is 😉
I don't know what to think of this yet. They look a bit too spaced out for my liking. I would've preferred they kept the old bases
I think it will be more fun if we try to like it :) I convinced myself it was OK by imagining the swordmasters standing far enough apart to swing their blades without chopping each other. I liked the old bases size, but I'm going to embrace the change, even tho gnoblars, skaven slaves, giant rats and goblins would have been even better on 20mm.
@@markysgeeklab8783 the thing is, your units will go to absurd sizes. look at warriors or chaos chosen. those guys need 35mm-40mm bases. ever seen a 5 wide unit of Ogers? thats going to require major cut backs in movement rules akin to 8th edition, where movement rules were basicly gone
Nice review video. One of these days I would love to have a hobby area permanently set up and paint racks like this one would certainly go a long way at keeping it all neat and tidy. Not sure how I would feel about having to glue it together though…it would be nice if the design was a bit more robust the first time around
I've been meaning to get mine set up since I moved country... taken me 15 years to get round to it!.. air brush, paint stands (ordered another diffrent one too) and some stacking boxes for flocks and sands.. really looking forward to having it all set up. Good luck with getting yourself a hobby area in less than 15 yrs :)
