When Brian Clough asked David Currie where he was from ( I know he'd signed from Barnsley and that answer's quite true ) but really he should've said Thornaby ( where he grew up ) which is approx 4 miles from Middlesbrough ( where Brian Clough grew up )

I think modern players pass more and are more accurate with it. It can make the game boring but technically I think they are better than in my day but I'd much rather watch an old game. There was more heart and excitement.

Paddy is a legend. When I first went to old Trafford I saw him but was too shy to say hello to him. A Celtic man. Man United is full of Scottish players in it's history managerial and players. I understand paddy got into a fist fight after the world club match in 1968 at old Trafford against the Argentinans and sir Matt dragged him off and said that's enough paddy. At old Trafford there is a statue for best law and Charlton. There should be one for Duncan Edwards. Paddy should have a statue. A remarkable man and a great servant to Celtic and Manchester United and a lovely man. Duncan Edwards was an amazing player and sir tom Finney and sir Stanley Matthews. He was George bests minder. We wouldnt have had George without Paddy and the lawman.

We had a high press years ago in our kitchen, just under the ceiling. Football has become so boring now with the ball being passed to death. How we could do with a Clough now who had the guts to try something different.

  • @ManxAndy

Only Sir Brian Clough could have seen this as normal….the man was a phenomenon, totally bonkers but in a good way, and proved his way of thinking time and time again, we will never see the like in football again.unfortunately 😞👍

You were also not playing with a ball that is so light you can aim for the corner flag and it can end up in the net. That's why they play with boots that are made of materials so Iight they feel like carpet slippers. I do wonder how these so called free kick experts on the pitch nowadays would have coped with a ball that actually travelled in the direction you kicked it in.

I still don't understand how a player of Peter Beardsley's ability didn't manage to dominate International football throughout the 1980's? Beardsley name should have made as big an impact as Maradona's at the 1986 World Cup. Or were international teams and players just even much more better than our lot back then? Surely not.
