This is a topic close to my heart; I’m home education my 9 year old who has dyscalculia. She’s an enthusiastic learner, but is hampered by visual perception issues. She cannot subtise even 3 items most days. She loves to explore graphs, yet counts on her fingers from 1 as her primary strategy.

Wow I'm so glad this is being talked about. When I tell people that i tutor math I either hear "I hate math" or "I'm not good at math". Then I proceed to ask them how they were taught and it was typically through the traditional lecture and notes. It's 2016 not 1960. Students need to be up exploring, discovering, asking questions and making connections. Students will never forget the egg drop project but they'll forget the Quadratic Formula. Demonstrate to them that it can be used to calculate how high a person can kick a football.
