Wedding dress shopping is absolutely maddening, and MOST of these dresses have the same or similar characteristics, so it's ludicrous to consider that someone could "pick the right one." Even if they had an unlimited budget (most women don't), most dresses still have the same waistline that cuts you off mid-section (If that doesn't work for you, too bad). Low cut necklines are all the rage, and if you don't want one of those, good luck finding a gown that isn't overly modest that doesn't have one. I actually have religious trauma around purity gowns and purity culture, so the low-cut neckline was a big deal for me, but I also didn't want a "purity" gown. There was no in-between. Also, many gowns are made as a sort of one-size-fits all, so any fancy lace or embelishments have to be cut off and re-sewn on to make the dress fit, which can be REALLY costly. I actually had to say no to some gowns that I loved because having them altered to fit just wasn't worth the cost. In the end, most women are forced to choose something in their budget that works, even if they ultimately don't love everything about the gown. Looking at individual fabrics, sheens, and textures doesn't even rank near the top of what many women are looking for since the options really aren't as diverse as anyone wants to believe they are.
