    Hi :) I just found your video… I’m 44 and seriously considering applying… just feel too old :/ I’ve worked in maternity in the nhs for around 14 years (not currently) so have lots of relevant experience but just not sure…

      Oh I really recommend it! We need all the midwife’s we can get, especially those who know what they are going into and are passionate about it! I’m so glad I applied, I feel like I’m starting a whole new chapter, and the majority of people on our course at our campus are over 30, and there is a huge range of ages. Also considering retirement is now 67 that would still be a 20 year career! Well 34 with your previous maternity experience! Oh I think you should go for it! 🥰

      @@studentmidwifestephanie9627 thank you for your lovely reply. I’m a single parents and although my son is 14 it would be very hard. No idea how we’d cope financially. I need to look into it all a bit more:) x

      Ah yes it can be so hard to make all the pieces fit, but there is the nhs learning support fund where you can get £5000 just for doing the midwifery course, and another £2000 if you are a parent, and there are student loans available. Definitely look into it, but I know it can be so hard juggling it all. Wishing you the best xxx

    100% agree with the mention the parts of your personal statement. My first interview for edge hill I just assumed she already knew I’d done bfi training and things as it was in my personal statement. I honestly don’t think the interviewer had read it in hindsight. I was put on the waitlist. My made sure in my second interview I mentioned everything in my PS and got an offer the next day in the November!Xx

    Loved this video, thank you so much! It's helpful for me to break it down in to steps, otherwise I overwhelm myself and think I can't do it. I looked into the Access course back in 2013 at my local college but ended up having 2 children fairly close together instead!! The last 7-8 years feel like a bit of a blur. I thought I'd closed the book on the idea of midwifery long ago, I currently work in an office part time but I can't shake the feeling that maybe I could at least try the access course!! I've always labelled myself as 'not academic' so need to find some confidence I think. The main think I do worry about is, if I did get that far, the missing out on family life as I always want to be the one there at school pick ups etc. Sorry for the long post!!

    • @studentmidwifestephanie9627
      @studentmidwifestephanie9627 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah you should definitely go for it! The access course is a great way to dip your foot in the water academically, and you will probably find you are far more academic than you thought. This is very exciting! I hope you go for it xxx

    This was really informative thank you :-) I'll be starting an access course in September.. I did business at university and have worked in business-y roles ever since! I've come to realise though that I'm not fully fulfilled just improving some numbers on a page, and want to do something more meaningful. I have always wanted to be a midwife but I didn't get high enough science grades at A level so I just went with what I was good at at the time.. but now I'm older I'm starting to think about what direction I really want my life to go in - so I'm taking the plunge!! Wish you all the luck with everything and I will be following along your journey :-) x
