this isn't standard they had sequential gearboxes when the VE chassis came out. Someo0ne has retro fitted a dog box into the chassis.
No mate, they began with a H pattern and went to sequential in later years, '08 or '09 from memory 😁
This track is not suited for this.
Amazing! I had the sound turned way up for this one! It's awesome when the proper turn exit strategy is to squeeze the power on until the tires start spinning, counter steer, and hold it until you're flat on the floor!
Not much of a race, more like you and maybe one other guy trying to keep up.
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING CAR AND TRACK !!!!! Aussies just get it.
That must be todd kellys #22 HRT VE from '07
Excellent.
Makes we wish I was still racing! Perfect heel & toe blipping the throttle on downshifts, something that you just don’t hear very often now. Did that when I raced at Kyalami F1 circuit in the ‘70s, and have always done it driving my road cars. It makes downshifts so smooth as you can ‘dump’ the clutch without the read or front locking up momentarily. I cringe hearing downshifts not using this technique anymore.
Yeah it sounds great I like the sound to
😍😍😍😍😍😍 what a beast
Philip island Circuit in Australia Melbourne its the host of the Motorcycle Grand Prix
Nothing better than a big block chevy inches behind your head
Nice vid! But just a side note: my neck is in pain, trying to force the view / camera up! 😂
Your barking mad😅
This car looks absoutely fantastic fun to drive if you know what youre doing. It seems so planted, it must be fun extracting everything out of it
I absolutely love the deep sub tone that these cars have at high rpm

If possible the camera should be near the front glass or outside, apart from that everything is so cool, im jealous !! LOL :D
why does the video end when it gets good
Love the down shifting sound :)
It was fantastic to see you on track in the M8E Harri. I was a part of the commentary team for the event that this video is from. I see the car is for sale, I hope it comes back to the Phillip Island Classic again. Absolutely loved it.
Top speed on the straight? Thanks

Bloody awesome, you did a good job taming it too!
Gorgeous! Makes it look like it's trapped on a go-kart track - it wants to be free! Lucky guy . I'm close to Road Atlanta, so have been going to vintage racing specifically to watch Group Seven cars since '82 during college. I was 6-8 years old, and only sixty miles away when they were really there. Couple years to retirement, and I'm going to scratch-build an M8-B tribute car. Here in the US, in a small town in GA, it's easily insured and tagged - not really interested in racing it, other than legal top-speed events. Slowly building my shop towards that day; Bridgeport and a lathe and every type of welder (not that they had many welds, other than subframes and suspension and roll hoops!); big air system, large powder-coating oven; working on larger sheet-forming equipment in the next year or so. I mean, it's '60s technology - perfect for a home-build a half-century later!
Enjoyed yesterday Harri, thanks for the chat. Whishing I was skinny enough to sit in that left seat with you.
Awesome footage!
A real V8 Supercar. Not the current control chassis shitboxes we have today
the turn 1 at 200km/hr. I could do 130 max in my little 86. wow...
Definitely the fastest car I've driven!
M8s have to be the bargain of historic racing cars. They sell for around $500,000 US I think this one is currently for sale at $580,000 AU or something. Considering people are paying 1.2 million for historic Aussie race sedans M8 prices are amazing. Surely a much better investment.
They sure are amazing cars mate! I've driven plenty of expensive machines and nothing quite comes close to this
@@HarriJones Sorry Henri, I hadn't actually realized it was yourself who loaded this video. I wouldn't have referred to the sale or the price if I had. I do stand by my assertion though that M8s are desperately undervalued when compared to other cars on offer which they are at least the equal of and mostly the significantly better of. Again not my business, but I think it is the wrong time to let it go if you can possibly hold it. The Solar productions 917K for example which I was pretty sure was the car Jerry Seinfeld bought for $2.7 million or so 8 or 10 years ago sold for $14 million US in 2017 I think. Canam 917s are way over that. I'm sure it's not too far off that people are going to wake up to M8s. That's my rant over. I had quite a nice collection of old mainly Aussie cars from F5000, formula pacific to group C, group A touring cars, V8 supercars, sports cars and significant Sports sedans. Various problems intervened including health issues. The GFC also contributed to my having to dispose of most of them. I don't cry about it but it does send a shiver occasionally when I look at their current values ! An example is a sports sedan I had for 20 years. Older readers will remember it as the Craven Mild sponsored Monaro sports sedan which was effectively Pete Geoghegan's last car. I sold it about 15 years ago and it came up for auction last week. Best guess was that it would bring around 1.2 million but interest ran out at $550,000. I'm sure that it will sell at significantly more when the dust settles, but if I had the chance which do you think I would rather have between this and your M8 ? Sorry for writing you a short story .... I'm nuts about this stuff !!! cheers.
So cool Harri! Bet ya you enjoyed pedalling this beast around one of best circuits in Australia!
Thanks Chris! I sure did 😄
Woww 👌🏻👌🏻
Excuse me if I'm wrong 🤦 Is that a H pattern box? 😳
Sure is 😊 Supercars had H patterns before they transitioned to sequential in 2008
What a Beautiful Porsche, Love it♥️🔥
made in flacht. 💕

What a skill for a driving a rare car, and I can't wait to see the paddle shifters being slapped in this year's gen 3! I'm Brazilian and I'm a HUGE fan of V8 Supercars
Thanks mate!! Supercars are fantastic :D
Paddle shifters have finally been ruled out for the Gen 3 supercar.

Whew, what sound! These CanAm cars were beasts. Thanks for the onboard!
What bike is that?
2018 Honda CRF250 :)
Why do they weld in that role bar right in front of his vision?!
It's called a "Larry Bar", coined by another driver called Larry Perkins. It's designed to stop wheels and other debris (when coming loose in a crash) from smashing through the windscreen. A dislodged wheel and tyre smashed a front screen at Bathurst one year.
the 2005 Bathurst 1000 that's why, a wheel from another car completely smashed Lowndes' windshield. pretty sure it was around before that but that incident highlighted why the bar is necessary to have

Man what a smooth lap. Almost shed a tear at the end haha

That bit where it came at the camera in the end was kind of scary. I'm! Wake me up when the killing starts!
How did you buy this ex hrt car
American here…. Don’t the V8 super cars usually have a sequential gear box? Thanks!
Hey mate!! They sure do. The sequential box came in the 2008 season. The car in this video is from 2007 so one of the last H pattern Supercars :D
@@HarriJones ahhh I see now. Thanks!
My dream car. Well one of them. Nice driving too!
Mine too mate! Appreciate it :D
Its interesting watching the lat's g's being pulled. In 91's tests the gibson GTR pulled 1.7 max on bathurst, and VN commodore 1.4 g's. Your M3 spiked at 2 g's in some spots.
