A dealer isn't the market. It may be part of the market, obviously the lower end, but the market is the rest of the interested buyers, and the price is subjective. So the real price of your car is whatever the market (however big you've made that market) will actually bear. The price could be $33,000, or the price could be $1,000. It depends on which segment of the market you're selling to and how much of the actual market you're exposing the item selling to. Often, when we need money fast, we tend to go to the nearest guaranteed buyer. Maybe we can't afford to put it up on Facebook marketplace, wait for an ancient newspaper ad to run, or shop it around to all of our family, friends, and acquaintances. This is why people often end up at Pawn shops selling for 50 to 70 percent of spot instead of doing a deal with an on-line dealer and getting spot or even just 90% of spot, which is MUCH better than the average pawn shop will give you. However, in most cases, if it's a genuine emergency, we're likely to be less concerned with how much of spot we're getting and just that we're getting what we need to take care of the issue that we have. That's part of the reason that I worry very little about premiums. I just make the best deal that I can at the time and move forward. More likely than not, by the time I'm ready to sell or am forced to sell, I will have held the metal/money long enough that whatever premium I might have paid above spot will have shrunken into obscurity. The extra $30 I spent on a 1/10 Eagle, for example, just isn't going to matter to me in 15 or 20 years. Any time you have collectibles, you really need time to expose it to the market in order to get anything like your original investment back, which is why I stay away from collectibles entirely or buy them with the expectation that I'll likely only get melt for it when I sell it. In a crisis situation, which are some of the only circumstances that would cause me to sell in the first place, most of what you have, collectible or otherwise, is only going to be worth what the metal is worth. This happens over and over again. There was a relatively wealthy man in Venezuela who had two large and slabbed Silver coins from the 1850s, which were in good condition and worth a very significant amount of money in a pre-Chavez world. We're talking $1,500+ in US dollars, which is and was huge in Venezuela. Well, this man had enough wealth to last in Venezuela for many years, and he was already in his 50s when everything started to go wrong, so he felt too old to leave his country and start over. Just after Chavez passed away and things were turned over to Maduro, he found himself down to some of his last valuable items to sell off. By this time he was well into his 60s. He found that his very valuable Venezuelan coins from the 1850s were really only worth melt value in the local market to which he had access. And while that would be enough to keep him going for a few more months, it was nowhere near the $3,000+ he cold have gotten a decade earlier, which would likely have sustained him for years in the current environment. I do an inventory of my Silver and Gold about every 90 days, and I re-calculate the prices for each category of coin or bar and then all of them in aggregate. When I do that, I typically calculate the "acceptable price range" of 85% to 100% of spot, and then I calculate the "if necessary" price range at 70% to 85% of spot. I hope to sell in the "acceptable price range" and I accept the fact that I might be forced to sell in the "if necessary" price range. Everything that I have is physically able to be be handled or I don't want. That's why I stay away from Perth Mint stuff. It's just too pretty for me. Glad to hear you're a physical media guy. I got rid of my cable and internet a decade ago. Instead, we went back to full-time physical media (TV shows, movies, etc...), and we just check out free wi-fi from the local public library for free internet access. I even keep extra TVs and DVD/blu-ray players in their original boxes, just in case they were to stop making those things, forcing people to remain plugged-in to participate in society. Anyway, interesting video. Best advice I know is to make sure that you buy from a variety of places in order to establish good relationships. You can also usually figure out your best places to sell at the same time. Try to limit your on-line purchases and stick mainly to in-person purchases. If you find yourself veering off into collecting, just make sure that you're always regularly putting something into your Silver and Gold savings like a fractional piece of Gold, an ASE, a Buffalo round, or a generic 1 ounce bar. You always want that savings to be growing, no matter whatever else you might be doing. Keep stacking!

Any moderate collectible is priced high on eBay. I’m sure most of those folks buy them at the LCS then flip online for the collectibility factor. JM republic national bank stuff or any jm items or engelhard sell for a pretty premium. He’ll look at a pamp fortuna items. 😮 like $400 or more per 10oz bar. I recall a year or two ago a kilo one asking 14-1600 😮 it eventually sold. Anyone know if the LCS would even give you a buck or more over spot for such items? Why making trips to the LCS is inportant. Most don’t care wheat it is besides being legit silver or not. Lots of old ladies get rid of them “common” items now coveted or collectible. 🎉😂❤

Constitutional is cheap right now. If the dude wants to build some basics into the stack. With so much silver flooding retails there's probably bargain bin deals to be had. Otherwise if you're stacking for the long term, buy gold.

I'd say you are a collector and a stacker. And yes you are spot on, precious metals are the ultimate wealth preservation tool. The only way I can see it being an investment is if you buy a collectable that you know will gain value over time. You can then trade that collectable for an amount of silver or gold that exceeds what you paid.

If you're storing them around your home, it's best to go with a variety of storage options, but you need to make sure you remember them. If you have a loved one, you can store a well-packed monster box, boxed and wrapped in tape multiple times clearly labelled as your property with a very trusted loved one. Often, people have little nooks and crannies in their homes that they store things in and might be amenable to having a relatively small but heavy box from you stored in there as well. Storing some amount in the ground is a good option, assuming you will always know where it is, and you will have the means and wherewithal to dig it back up if and when the time comes. Storing some amount of things in plain sight is a pretty easy thing to do, so long as you are creative and you switch up your locations and methods every few years. So people have done cleverly disguised door stops or cleverly designed decorations or center pieces, in which 20 to 100 ounces is hidden. People have hidden them in specially built compartments carefully affixed to the inside and underside of things like couches, love seats, coffee tables, etc... People have stored them inside of walls, inside duct-work, and even in rather unsuspecting places like above the door inside a closet. Just a little enclosed shelf screwed to the studs above the trim of the door on the inside, and you've got a place that you can put 20 to maybe 200 ounces. Unless someone were to reach up and in to pull something out of there, they'd never know the little enclosed shelf was there. And of course, why would they ever discover something like that to begin with? How often do we go inside of a small closet and look up over the door on the inside of the closet for things? There are those who keep hundreds and even sometimes thousands of ounces outside in their shed in the backyard amongst scraps of copper and aluminum. For example, you can put two monster boxes together in a box, and wrap the box heavily and carefully in things like duct tape, Gorilla tape, and/or box tape. Once that's one, you can print off the appropriate font label for a bag of something like "QUIKRETE", place clear tape over the label, and then anyone finding the 60+ pound box will just assume it's an older container of QUIKRETE that you lazily allowed to absorb moisture and harden into a giant concrete block in your shed. Only you would know that the giant block had a value of $30,000+. It's actually not that hard. I know people who've gotten tips on-line and they put a bunch of silver in some food seal bags or Ziploc type bags with most or all of the air removed, wrapped it in a little box tape, and then tossed it into a mostly used can of paint that they then sealed up. As long as their is enough paint to cover the silver, you can retrieve it at any time, and your Silver and/or Gold will stay quite clean. So long as you're creative, there are almost uncounted ways that you can store your Silver and/or Gold on or near your own property in ways that would virtually never be found out by the average person poking around your house and almost no criminal who was intent upon grabbing and going. Typically, they are looking for jewelry, cash, guns, and electronics. I keep all of my old laptops, ipads, cell phones, etc... I keep them specifically so that they can be stolen. I make sure to power them up from time to time, and I keep them where they can be easily found. I do the same thing with costume or low-cost jewelry. I also keep diversionary precious metals stacks around in plain sight, which have fake Gold, fake Silver, and even some real Silver and clad collectible coins in them. So War Nickels, 40% Silver, Ike dollars, Gold colored dollar coins, fake Gold plated Zinc pirate coins, etc... are kept in those diversionary stacks. I always leave some Silver, maybe even a few 90% or real bullion coins because you don't want them leaving thinking that they'd been fooled. Instead, you want them to think that they got something of real value, which they did. It's just $50 or $150 in value, instead of $15,000 or $150,000. Hopefully that makes sense.
