OuRnB exists on two core principles. The protection of Rhythm & Blues, and the celebration of both its origins and the figures that transformed it into a foremost musical genre.
How The Supremes Became Legends
For many, The Supremes represent the pinnacle of Motown records, one of the first-along wth VeeJay records- black owned record labels.
Formed in 1958, the singing trio was originally a quartet, but Mary Wilson, Diana Ross, and Florence Ballard continued as a trio and in 1964 they scored their first number one.
The trio would remain a constant on both Pop and R&B chart.

Tarsha Jones is a popular radio personality and singer. She goes by the stage name Miss Jones, and found great success on the R&B charts in the late 1990's and early 2000's. To learn more about her, and how Mary J Blige profited off of Diddy's habit of stealing from smaller black artist, watch the vid. Thank you all for the support and views. Life has been doing it's thing, and these videos are...
On The Legacy: Why Do Fools Fall in Love & Frankie Lymon
มุมมอง 2.9Kปีที่แล้ว
In 1998, the Gregory Nava directed and Tina Andrews penned film 'Why Do Fools Fall in Love' was released to theaters. It chronicled the love interest of Frankie Lymon, and the eventual legal chaos that ensued when Diana Ross covered his most famous tune. In this video, I discuss the film and the impact it had on the real life Frankie Lymon, played by Larenz Tate in the film.
How Marvin Gaye Became a Legend

Marvin Pentz Gaye Jr. is remembered as the Prince of Soul. He garnered a long list of charting singles on both the pop and R&B charts. Despite having his career cut short, he left behind a catalog that has inspired numerous contemporary artists. In this video, I'll examine his career and explain why he became a legend.
On The Legacy: The Temptations Miniseries & David Ruffin
มุมมอง 304K2 ปีที่แล้ว
The 1998 NBC miniseries The Temptations is a staple in many households. It told the story of its namesakes' rise from two doo-wop groups to one of Motown Record's flagship acts. The miniseries portrayal of David Ruffin, who was in the group for five years, and its impact on his legacy is chronicled in this second installment of On The Legacy. Thank you for watching!
Music and Times: Mary Wilson

In the wake of Mary WIlson's passing, this video will discuss her role in the Supremes, the failed 2000 reunion, as well as Wilson's legacy. Thank you for watching! Hope you enjoy the video! Don't forget to like and subscribe!
They sounded to much like q Toni song. I use to be like this Toni song
Trina and the girls . Loved Trina voice
I heard him on BET. 1978? Love him
A beautiful woman, with a wonderful voice and songs tailored on her talent
Why didn't you cover Sex & Cigarettes and Spell My Name albums? Great video overall
Only for time’s sake, but I likely will discuss them in a future video.
This acapella intro! If she can’t do nothing else she can sing!
He will always be remembered and loved by all❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
They left off the title track from “Who’s Zommin Who “ that was a top 7 pop hit even without an accompanying mucous video!
This was GREAT! Thank you. Nice presentation that kept my attention and not too long.
Why is there no mention of Diana and the girls' work with the Temptations? It's a glaring omission. That being said, this is great.
Just came across this video, but I absolutely absolutely love it.
When aretha JUMP was in radio...my gosh I thought my momma was gonna sweat out her natural afro dancing
I feel like if they had a different name they would’ve had more success. The Braxton name was already taken by Toni. She was running the 90s so she easily overshadowed them
This manis so gorgeous,Luther you are so missed and you deserve to be in hall of fame for your music,o I love you,I love you , I lov you,you gorgeous man, people need to know you’re a gorgeous my,beautiful gay man and no one cud ever replace you xx💔💔🥲🥲🥲
Love the thumbnail pic! You chose to use a rare pic and I appreciate that. These ladies music makes me feel so good. It didn’t need a bunch of runs and over singing, because the instrumentation is absolutely AMAZING with TRUE talent behind it. That’s what gets me so absorbed into their music; all of the different sounds and collaboration on each song.
Thank you for watching and commenting! :)
The Braxtons pimps in black I love, stardom is their style,so many ways stardom, never be over you! every things better with time!! 😘 kiss them, I l🖤o🖤v🖤e them. No comparison slow flow! RIP👩🏽🦰🕊

Where's the good in goodbye is one of the best r&b songs ever and ToWanda voice on the album is really wonderful. N they released the wrong singles.
Who is that lady with David on the "Gentleman Ruffin" album?
Thank you for sharing! Toni is a true legend ❤
A real true living legend the ♎️ Queen she is!
Nothing like new jack swing era performers ! Best modern day era for music! Braxton is a one of a kind performer! ❤
Luther vandross had the greatest male vocal voice of all times Luther vandross needs to more recognize
Toni is my fav singer ❤ thanks for posting
Thank you for watching! 🙏🏿
Thank you for sharing❤❤❤ my ALL time favorite artist Toni Michelle Braxton😘😘😘😘❤️🩹❤️🩹❤❤
This video deserves a lot more views
Thank you! 🫶🏾
Just when I thought I couldn’t love this channel anymore you posted this well deserved piece of history 🙌🏾. Now if we can get the Dinah Washington re-up in this format we’ll be in business
You gotta do one on Chante Moore.
Long overdue 🖤🖤🖤
It sounded like he said "Primates" at 1:13 💀
🤣🤣🤣 oops
Flo, the one and only Flo!
I'd buy a full version of his Greyhound jingle...
Bravo, this is one of the best on The Supremes yet, I would have like a little more of the frictions that came with the group, what makes legends most, but this is the best yet thank you, Standing in the shadows of The Supremes.
I’m personally sick of hearing about the frictions. I want to celebrate their gifts . We get it already! Diana was most ambitious that wanted people to love her, Mary was the middle person, Florence couldn’t handle the pressures of the business and was haunted by her past and started drinking more than she should. Berry Gordy could’ve helped them maintain their friendship… but he was more focused on the mission. The end
I don't understand why " Nothing But heartaches" didn't go number 1 I love that record, there are some silent and visual empty spots, with a tighter edit this should be on one of PBS "American experience" shows I see shows of people I and many people never heard of it's a total disgrace that nothing has been done on this group, a group showcased in the middle of the Civil rights era, while news stations were showing protests, dogs and fire hose being turned on Black people, then you turn on Ed Sullivan and see these awesome glamorous girls with Diana's perfect diction on TV, The Supremes are never giving credit for that as well.
To me, Mary Wilson is the true lady Supreme. She was there till the end. And Mae sure memorabilia of the supremes remained relevant.
This is the best vid I’ve seen of the supremes
thank you for this comment! 🙏🏿
Reflections was no. 2 for two weeks on billboard but was no.1 on cashbox
They copied her whole style look dance moves puff is lame and unoriginal
Frank Wilson took the challenge of the Seventies Supremes and blazed them into history. MOTOWN, still stuck on this Diana Ross over the name when just call that version Supremes featuring Diana Ross.
Gordy ruin Motown by losing sight of the company purpose by sex distraction and concentrating on one act.
Love, how the Supremes became legends giving credit t group over person.
Correction….. Lynda was not a “temporary replacement” for Cindy Birdsong while Cindy was on maternity leave. Cindy left the group and was replaced by Lynda Laurence. Lynda was signed to Motown as a member of The Supremes. Lynda did not come into The Supremes “temporarily.’ When Lynda joined the trio she was never introduced as Cindy’s “temporary replacement.”
She was only in the lineup officially from 1972-73 because Cindy was pregnant. So, although you are correct in that they never said she was temporary, considering the fact that Cindy did return to the lineup after having a child is what led me to say that. Hope this helps. Thanks for the comment and clarification.
Luther and Will Downing are my musical father and uncle, in terms of the yin of Downing's masculine baritone voice and the yang of Vandross' tenor voice is anything but amazing. Maaaannn his music was my soundtrack of my life
Thank you for making this truly about "The Supremes" and not about Diana Ross. Especially, thanks for recognizing the incredible velvet-voiced Jean Terrell and her nearly-four years as lead singer. Diana and Jean were the only two officially appointed lead singers of The Supremes. After Jean left, the group had no releases for nearly two years and was eventually refashioned as an "Ensemble Act" with Mary Wilson very evenly sharing leads with Scherrie Payne and (later) Susaye Greene.
Thank you! Admittedly, I am a Diana Ross fan, but what a lot of people miss about the supremes is that each member brought something to the table. Although I could have touched on that more, your comment makes me feel i’ve done well enough. :)
@@ournb5811 but the truth of the matter is that it was Diana Ross’ unique beautiful voice on all the singles that made The Supremes and it was her charisma with that “extra special something “ that she brought into the group of beauties they were unique there was a lot of girl groups back then but their talent class style looks surpassed the rest they were really THE # 1 American group of the 1960s only the Beatles had more hits but they were British ,Elvis was the number one solo artist ,it was Elvis The Beatles and The Supremes wow ! Three little girls from the ghetto were 3 Black American Princesses back in those days in the 1960s it was unheard of The Supremes was the first of everything …………..they broke all kinds of records they were truly Supreme and everyone love them and knew theme they were a household name
Just a few things: -I misspoke in the beginning, they were a quartet in 1958, so there were four members not five. -I left out More Hits By The Supremes, which was released in 1965, mainly due to time. Hope you all enjoy, I have been a Supremes fan since I was ten. I know all their number ones by heart. This was a labour of love. 🫶🏾
Can we please get the Dinah Washington video back or maybe a revamped version??!! So many legends that you cover looked up to her and copy her singing style. Love your work ❤️
@@christopheryoung5032 Certainly!! Thank you so much for this it means a lot!
Funny moment when I was hearing love child.....I kept singing You want this by Janet lmao you know JJ and TL sampled that for Jan 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Cindy is the first R&B singer in history to leave a group for a rival girl group. ( Patti LaBelle & The Bluebelles vs. The Supremes) Sangin' vs. Singing
Yup, had LaBelle singing & writing songs about how she went Hollywood!
@@ournb5811 ... The Bluebelles were a powerhouse group The Supremes weren't that kind of group.
@@nutinman4uMost definitely. The Supremes made Black music for white people.
@@nutinman4uDefinitely! I personally think The Supremes and Motown at large made black music for the masses, while LaBelle and other black owned labels had an emphasis on vocals as well as crossover appeal. Thank you for your comment 🫶🏾
@@nutinman4u Also, you just gave me a video idea! expect to see this comment in a video soon.
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS! CHANTÈ DESERVES ALL HER FLOWERS! 🤍🤍🤍
David Ruffin, Dennis Edwards and Eddie Kendricks should’ve made albums together
Timeless perfection. Lifelong fan forever! Miss him so much.
