Agreed. Self care should move beyond confines of aesthetics. In fact, real self care is rooted inside mental serenity. For me, it stems from having the "concept of enough". Knowing exactly how much I want by having clarity between "needs" & "luxuries", not comparing myself to others, not shifting the goal post when tempted and understanding difference between what I can control and what I can't, are the bindings that helps in maintaining personal equilibrium.

In the words of Tyler Durden Baba-- "Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need". @06:23 i felt so guilty aur jabki mene to aisa kuch kiya bhi nahi. i was almost about to cry but then my phone rang and i came back to my senses. you turned into a grumpy Grandma right there. Alright Sit back i have a story to tell you. Once upon a time there was this guy who lost most of his hair during Covid and he was devastated (thinking i can't become anupam kher at 30), so he did some research since he couldn't ask for help due to lockdown. Then he decided to go natural instead of using chemicals or OTC meds.. After centuries of deep research in the harsh caves of Himalaya, he stumbled upon this idea of making radical changes to his diet and also use onion juice as a catalyst and voila in the span of just few weeks he saw the hair coming back. Seeing these magical results his mother and sister also tried, and they confirmed that it works. Today he has bunch of frostbites but hey atleast he got his hair back.. he will release a video about this journey as soon as he figures out the way back home. Anyway A huge part of my self care is this really interesting and incredible thing called WATER. Drink it, wash with it. I mean its amazing And inexpensive. I feel its useless to do anything with your skin other than bathing and moisturizing because the real selfcare happens from inside. You make few changes to manage your free radicals in the body and eat more unprocessed food rich in anti-oxidants and you will be fine. Add a little bit of excersice on top of this and you're already a god. Sweat is the best face/body wash in the world (NOTE- has to be your own). I really don't think that our skin absorbs all these artificial chemicals we apply in the name of cosmetics, sure maybe few upper layers of the skin but thats it, your immune system will kick in the moment it detects foriegn objects. What people really need to do is, pick a book and read about thier own body, the how, what and why, and then use your own intelligence to decide what is good for you. We got this awesome machinery that we live inside but none of us really bothers to read the user manual. so good food-- plenty of water-- excercise-- good sleep-- low stress levels etc-- and patience. if nothing works then you can always try good old FAIR & LOVELY

They say: "Jack of all trades, master of none". I still haven't fully figured out whether I agree or disagree with the statement. But I was thinking, as children when we are exposed to different things and ideas, we become fascinated by it or at the least we are more encouraging and accepting of "new" ideas. And then parents encourage it, they enroll children in different learning programs to help them find their "one true calling". But as you said, is it an adult problem? Are we so desperate to put people into boxes and label them, that we are afraid that many boxes would create a confusion? Is it not the beauty of life that we can be whoever we want to be at whatever stage you want to be? Like at ten, I wanted to be a doctor and now at twenty I want to be a writer, a businesswoman, a better human being, a chef and a reader. So many options and so much to dabble from. Then, I think society is more inclined towards pushing individuals to a streamlined single path and not let them stray. Doesn't it help you focus more better rather than being engaged in different streams? I think so I'll also make your new year resolution mine too: Consume less and create more. Get to know myself better too, I'll add this one to the list too. And Kanwal coming from someone who is a serial "yapper", I believe the world can learn so much from our wisdom so keep it coming. Looking forward to your essay video. Do tell me your thoughts. P.S: I also really love reading your replies. With warmth, Your avid viewer

@@hafsakhan8860 Hi Hafsa! I truly believe it’s our responsibility to uncover our true callings, and that only comes with time and experimentation. As Marcus Aurelius said, “The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.” Sometimes, what seems like a dream-like becoming a chef-turns out to be more than we bargained for. The idea of it might excite us, but once we experience the reality-the early mornings, the stress of running a busy restaurant, and managing so many personalities-the passion for cooking can get overshadowed. Becoming anything meaningful takes consistent work, and often, it’s messier and more complex than we imagined as kids. As for us generalists, curiosity becomes our greatest asset. I don’t mind investing time, energy, and sometimes money into exploring various hobbies and pursuits. As Robert Heinlein put it, “Specialization is for insects.” (A bit much I knw) I’d much rather enjoy the thrill of curiosity and growth than live with the torment of unexplored passions and regrets later in life when I’m out of time and health.

I guess my vote goes to generalists, as your ability to unlearn & relearn, explore new avenues and find connections within various disciplines assist you in broadening your mental canvas. Moreover I have a theory that Experts are just "Focused Generalist" who have found a new way of looking at something, as Arthur Schopenhauer said "....Talent hits a target no one else can hit. Genius hits a target no one else can see." Hence my deduction is that becoming a generalist is first step in carving a niche for yourself in a desired field. Like to become an effective social scientist you need to have knowledge of history, anthropology, economy, political science, mass communication, philosophy etc. Even in learning martial arts, one who really stands out are ones having intimate knowledge of nutrition, physiology, psychology etc. In short, first you gather relevant knowledge from different fields, than you sift & connect it and lastly you keep pushing your mental faculties to arrive at "eureka" moment. Even baji in your case if you observe, all the areas you named are deeply interconnected. Your inclination towards art should help you in organising the abstract ideas into something beautiful and productive, a skill that is relevant for making visual videos, making visual videos which is helpful in improving communication, communication which is quintessential for teaching and so the cycle goes.

first 3 minutes in your video and i was like ahaa i see. I have thought about it before and its very conflicting you know whether to be very good at something specific or keep a broad perspective? Just yesterday i was watching a video by Veritasium on experts/sepcialists and it explained the magnitude of work and repitition it takes to be an expert. So it got me thinking, what an incredible psychological prison it must be to keep your curiosity locked on just one thing. Now there is no right or wrong here. my argument is, for specific specialisations we already have computers and with AI getting better exponentially very soon we will have task specific systems in place which would be far better than any human on repetitive tasks.. I am definitely a Generalist and i wouldn't trade it for anything. I can't just be my job, I love singing, i love Astronomy, biology, psychology, I love learning about brain, i'm a Lucid dreamer, a stargazer, a (self-proclaimed) pizza expert, I enjoy training AI models, i love telling stories, i love writting even though i suck at it. I feel the greatest ideas and extraordinary inventions will always come from generalists. We humans are great at being wrong and thats the beauty of it. most, if not all of our greatest breakthough happened because of our mistakes and how do you make a mistake? by not being a specialist and having a wider perspective, The very nature of a human mind is to ask questions about everything, looking for patterns even if there isn't any (all those green aliens). Think about Einstein or Newton. They were really good at physics however that wasn't enough, their capabilities to think like an artist, to visualise their concepts and use their imagination in conjuction with their specialty in physics led us to the world we live in today. So i maybe wrong here but i think having a different POV at things is really a specialty we human posses and it would be so wrong to suppress that.. again we definitely need specialists for deeper and more focused understanding but a little masala will always make it... well, TASTIER. I hope the above rant doesn't make you a specialist..

I guess more than profit, we are concerned about endorsement by others. As encouragement of others is instrumental in cementing viability of our passion. Wanting a monetary outcome is a sub-branch of that instinct. However in my opinion, as long as passion is rooted in deep sense of self-fulfillment and makes you feel alive at a personal level, it's worth it. We should not become victim of "spectator's acknowledgement". You are correct about not “ghasait-ing” your family and friends into your pet passion project. I myself started podcasting as a way to understand myself and acquire new experiences. Yet, only very few close people know about it because I agree with your point that you should share something once you are absolutely perfect at it and think you are providing value. You asked about something that I always think about, I think it has always been makeup. For me, it is an art, a medium to show creativity. While watching your video, I was actively debating myself that no I cannot thrust myself into a new territory considering I am halfway studying something else. Yet, I braced myself and thought only I am the one holding myself back. Maybe I should try and experience it. What’s the worst that can happen? Failure? It’s not like I’ll be the first person to fail. Kanwal one question after such a detailed comment, even though I have started experimenting, why do i feel like an imposter? Ohh my.. thank you so much for taking time and talking about this. yeah you're right how would you know if you don't ever try. well thank you. and for that one thing, what keeps me up at night generally is the sheer curiosity about us about the universe. I read whatever i can, I try to understand the concepts to the best of my abilities even if i have to give it multiple tries since science isn't my background. I want to grasp everything about the very existence, the world we live in, the mechanism of how time and space works, right from the quantum realm all the way up to the observable cosmos. I want to find the answer to why is it that matter came together and under what circumstances it became alive and why did matter arrange itself in such intricate ways to create consciousness. I want to know where we live in this cosmos and whats our place, and do we have neighbours and if we do how similar or different they are from us, the way we define life right now is it the only form of life that exists, why do we have these specific laws of physics , what was there before the beginning of time and well you get the idea... my problem is what do i do with this, how do i pursue this further. I mean if i were to leave everything else that i do to make a living which is honestly really boring though i make good money, how do i incorporate this in my career. This lack of clear direction is what's holding me back.. again thanks a lot for taking time, i am gonna download this one as a reminder... much love!!

@@Alien-d1j wow! Cosmos and space is a fantastic interest! You don’t have to incorporate it into your work. Learning about history and historical figures brings me joy and I did it even when I was not teaching. Learn for the sake of your curiosity and that is enough. Ah it works - what about reminding yourself of the end goal for that particular task? Like in my case, I need to do outreach (even though it feels cringe to message random people). But in doing so I get to identify their problem and solve it by offering our service. Ultimately, the goal is to close the deal - whether it's for $750 or more.

you again???? dude that sound effect after the word IGNORED scared the living shit out of me.. no headphones from now on.. ok well you're right, i guess its the constant self doubt, self judgement because in the end it doesn't really matter what others say about you, Whether you have a support system or not but if you don't believe in the person that you are its gonna be very difficult. now there is a very thin line in believing yourself and going insane. To me its not about feeling good rather making sense out of things... Me itna gyaan kyu de raha hu, mujhe to khud help ki zarurat hai. keep going girl!!!
