Clear Speech Strategies
In this video, I review a variety of clear speech strategies for having clear speech when you speak. These tips can be used in the classroom, at home or any time a person is speaking. Each strategies has a corresponding gesture which is helpful to use as a cue when these strategies need to be implemented.

Are you still posting Leigh????
Thank you, this is so helpful! My son was evaluated for this and they said we don’t have to worry until he is 6 years old so they didn’t approve more therapy sessions after turning 3. I knew that seemed off.

My son faces a difficulty from pronouncing the K ang G sounds and he substitutes them with T and D sounds. Thanks for explaining.
This is so helpful! Thanks Leigh!
I am counting how many times she said "um"
My daughter has this. She is 4. I noticed it when she was 2, and asked her pediatrician about it at 3, and she told me it was developmentally normal. I wish I would have listened to my gut, because I knew there was an issue! She is 4 now, and we are going ro our first speech appointment this week! Thank you!
person with Lisp here speech classes can become frustrating after some time so as soon as her permanent teeth grow in I recommend putting her in braces or Invisalign to fix any gaps and to help correct her speech if I were you I would take her to an orthodontist
@fatpotato317 thank you for the advice!! It actually turned out that it was her tonsils and adenoids! She had them taken out last winter, and her speech was immediately better....turns out her adenoids were blocking over 60% of her airway. It was actually the speech therapist who suggested this as the problem, and she was 100% right.

thank you, Leigh! This video helped me in my presentation on autistic kids.

I watched a video on speech apraxia and it sounds a bit like him but could he be a bit of both apraxia and phonological. Im really stuggling to get him help and dont know how to help him myself
Hey Christine, You have some challenges ahead of you, don't you. this is the first time of my speaking on this matter. okay I'm 33 years old in grade 7 (oct - 2001) I was given a test, one that i'm sure i've done before but this is the record i have in front of me says VERBAL 85 (16%ile) Performance was 119 (90%ile) on the wisc-3 test. as a adult I'm a Master Electrician however Im rediscovering communicating and social issues this may have been triggered from a recent work related injury of profound hearing loss. Im writing to you because I think maybe I can offer a perspective on things. I had sever difficulties so take my thoughts as for what it is from my personal experience relating to me and not a professional with privileged medical information as i write for simplicity of speech. Today i'm watching youtube on the matter and thinking of my Mother. as a child it was really hard to correct my speech in part because learning to correct my speech exhausted a large amount of trust building before the learning could even start. I remember that when I spoke this sounded correct to me and what I was hearing. You say Ambulance, me okay Ambulance lol not what was actually said out loud haha right you get it. so what Im saying really is a tip have when your child recognize the error himself and he will correct it, this is his healing journey and a good opportunity to bonding with your child and build trust, my mother had five of us boys and i was the one that had these issues mom was a single mother and this was a difficult task, she relied on the public school to teach me, i don't recommend this, theres a conflict of interest.though use every resource available too you! I'm learning that Im a bit different but not Different at all if that makes sense, don't judge your child as being disabled although he is currently being challenged with some difficulties. some people get math for example and the one's that don't understand math are not called disabled, right. these are just challenges. get a handle on reading and writing, the visual stuff - the difficult stuff is trusting that your son is reading the word correctly and just not saying it correctly lol thats the trust bit lol. okay the memory training will be difficult because memory games are trust building so focus on balancing fun and work with these memory training exercises. i was very repetitive my brothers hated watching a movie 2 times but id watch the same movie 32 times hahahaha. i don't know why, but thats probably why i'm a electrician because i can read the same book over and over again and pull some new information from it. social training will be challenging - this one i'm still trying to figure out. so this is what i suggest download the Tony Robins Breakthrough APP and use this as a foundation like the abc's, its good valuable social information in there. for example female and males do not process social information equally we are very different in what we tie meanings too. your son will get frustrated and upset like any child so this will be a stress management challenge for your son so dont be too hard but still make the challenges achievable, but the challenges must be challenges for improvement. one last tip is don't jump to conclusions. cheers - Tony
@@masterelectriciananthonywr739 hey tony. Ive finally got my son private speech help. He is going weekly and has been for 5 weeks. He was diagnosed with severe phonological disorder and some Oro-motor problems. So far he is coming along in leaps and bounds with the awesome person i have found for him, he responds well to her. She has told me that its going to be a long process but she believes he will get there. Because he is only 4.5 years old ive decided to not send him to school till he's maybe 6. Depending on how his speech is or i will homeschool him for a bit. Im so happy with what changes im currently seeing from him. He's so ready to learn all he can. Hopefully things get easier for you too. Thanks for your comment

I hear others lisp's nobody else notices and occasionally don't hear those that others hear!
Thank you so much for this! Incredibly helpful!
haha, I loved the angry cat face! Thank you so much, Leigh! It really helped me!
Well I have a lateral lisp so I have to talk faster than normal and replace or remove some letters from words while talking. But when I don’t do all that I just sounds so weird so I have to use that method. It’s so sad if you think about it. Because I always wanted to be seen as “normal”(or sound “normal”) and I’ve started to accept my self. But that still doesn’t change the fact that I have to miss out on opportunities because of my speech. But I stopped that and now I did the stuff I wanted to do now I can achieve stuff when I put my mind to it. I chose to become like a “captain” or something like that. There were lots of candidates and I ended up with highest amount of votes (85%)! And ended up getting the role. I knew I had the potential I just have to put my mind to it. That’s the same with my channel, started 3 months ago ( as of today’s date) and at 926 subscribers about to go onto 1,000. Nothing can stop you from doing what you want. You just have to find a way to make it suit you. To maximise your full potential. Also remember other people’s opinions and thought about you might stop you from stuff. But remember it’s your life and your the main character. So stop caring about what others think of you. I just cope with it by having the mindset of being the main character (which you all are!) just remember be kind, and treat others how you want to be treated - Ray ✨
I'm 14 years old and I also have a lisp. I've been struggling alot with my self confidence lately cuz of my voice but reading your comment is really comforting for me. I found it really relatable and knowing I'm not in this alone is like a big relief. Your comment is like 2 yrs old, I hope you're doing well
Thank you for posting. I'm connecting with your style of instruction. Will you consider the IPA as a topic. Including pronunciation.

The explanation is helpful and with enough detail. Thank you for sharing it. The transition is tricky .. the relax position to tense .. Do you have a separate video for just 'R' or all you videos are R with vowel sounds >
