Welcome to Cultivation Corner! | Podcast Teaser
I’ve always liked plants. I had several in my room at my parent’s house when I was in high school. Then I always had just a couple or few in my apartment or house. I bought a house in 2019, and when the pandemic happened I spent a lot of time outdoor gardening. Then I did again in 2021. When Autumn of 2021 came around, I was so depressed that winter and snow were coming, and gardening season was over for many months to come… At this point I think I still had just 3-4 plants in the house. I watched a video on TH-cam about the Philodendron Spiritus Sancti. At the point the video was made, they were still crazy expensive. It was about how someone stole a piece of one from a botanical garden. There were several people the interviewed in this documentary video. One guy had two Spiritus Sancti. He or a family member came into a medical situation and he sold one of his Spiritus Sancti… For $15,000!!! I was blown away because I never heard of the prices people will pay for a rare plant. I went to Home Depot after I watched the video and ended up buying a bunch of succulents. Only one of which is still alive, I’m not great with succulents! And the next day I went back and bought a Philodendron Birkin and an Alocasia Bambino. I still have the Birkin, which was the first of currently 62 species of Philodendrons I have. I decided Alocasia are not for me when that one went dormant and never came back. I became obsessed with Philodendrons as shown by the 62 species and probably at least 65 total that I currently have. I have some doubles from propagating, and when the Galaxy Pink Princess came out, I HAD to have one even though I already had a regular PPP. I recently counted and realized that I have about 130 total plants in my house! And I even eventually got a Spiritus Sancti, the one that kind of started my Philodendron obsession. And one I thought I would NEVER have when I saw a guy selling one for $15,000! You could say I’ve gotten a little carried away. Now that I realized how many I have, and given that it can be hard at times to keep up with care, I am trying to slow down on bringing home new plants. But if the right one crossed my path, I’d still bring it home! 😂
My plant journey started when I was going through a lot of changes in my life. It is very much a part of my spiritual journey. It saved me, so to speak, it grounds me.
Sweetie not only needs her space on the platform but also matching attire. #nooneputssweetieinacorner❤🐕🐾
I’m here for Grow Folds! Awesome plant podcast I just subscribed 😊
Glad to have you here!
This was such a sweet episode. Came back to watch the part I missed before joining the live. I lost a frosty fern xmas 2023 ; tried again xmas 2024. It's doing well so far . Not sure if it's a seasonal plant like a poinsettia, but I'm doing the best I can and will see how it goes. (I'm glad I figured out how to keep my Calathea alive. I almost lost her shortly after I got her a few years back. From what you all have said, sounds like I'm lucky to still have her.) It was nice hearing everyone's plant journey stories.
Thanks Dee! Janeé can’t keep calatheas alive, you should give her some pointers!😂
Another great episode! Loved hearing more from Janee this time! Interesting how for a lot of us plant love starts from childhood. It is a beautiful way we can honor the memory those who have left us, and thank y'all for sharing your experiences with the family members who influenced your journey. When I was a kid, I always noticed that plants were in the homes of my favorite TV families..shows like Who's The Boss, The Cosby Show, Growing Pains (I am a kid of the 80's). I associated plants with a thriving household, and a family that was middle class. I thought plants were glamorous, something to aspire to. Over the years, I always tried but failed to find success until TH-camrs showed me the way. I suffer from chronic illness, and it has definitely helped me deal with the challenges that come along with it. My faith and plants are my secret to successful and happy life👑🪴😊
Jennifer thank you so much for sharing your story!!!💚💚💚
;We gotta get Richie a Batman mask!!
Ye would definitely be open to that!
Enjoyed! As usual!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you Travis!

Yessss
When you all spoke about how your plants helped you, I really understand that. Plants don't let you down like people do. Thought I made a good friend, on Grow Folds, but she dropped me like a hot rock. Felt like I had been gut punched. But no more, I will stick to my plants, and my animals, not people anymore, plants and my animals you can work with, talk to, and enjoy. People, I will never Trust again. I said that once before, but mean it now. My plants aren't cold hearted, they need me, for water, potting up, re-potting, fertilizing, and I love doing that. Plus learning so much about Plants from RICHIE on GROW FOLDS, which has been just wonderful. Love working in my barn and with my chickens and sheep. I understand them, they understand me. It was MY grandmother that got me into plants years ago. I wish I could chat with her now about them. Grandmothers are Great. lol
Thanks for sharing Kathy!💚💚

@@Cultivation_Corner yes! Thank you
💚💚💚 I enjoyed hearing everyone's journey!!
Thank you for listening to our stories. Could you also share your plant journey
Thanks Michelle!💚
@Cultivation_Corner Oh yes, absolutely. I had to think back to how my journey began! I bought a home I'm 2017 as a single Mom of 2 and I was determined to make our new house a home. So, I went to buy a plant 🤭 not knowing anything about plant placement based on sun direction. Needless to say it DIED a slow sad death. And it was a snake plant smh... When the virus shut the world down I got back into plants and now that I know better and I have you all on TH-cam as plant teachers and friends. My collection is thriving!
🫶🏾
I feel like I replace all my worries and problems with plants. Each plant is a situation or a problem place holder.....as long as I can take care of my plants I am somewhat in control.
And that’s why plants need to be part of overtones life. Thank you for sharing your plant journey ❤️❤️❤️
💚💚💚
So I joined the live late and I am rewatching the beginning now and WOW, Steve, what a powerful message! Richie, My grandmother got me into the hobby as well! My plants are a huge part of my mental health as well, definitely helped me recover from my death / stroke. Omg Janee, my mom did too ! She also created the most magical hidden garden behind our garage right on the river….with a huge Weeping Willow hanging over the entire thing , surrounded by wild raspberry bushes , it was a magical place. Plants have had a HUGE impact on my life forever and will continue too FOREVER. 🫶🏼💪🏼
Can't remember a childhood without plants. My mom and grandmother always had gardens and plants inside and out. So It just comes naturally that I love gardening and plants too and love being outdoors. Thank you mom and grandma. 🥰❤🙏
I live that you can tire it back to your mom and grandma 💚💚
Thanks for sharing we love hearing that Tree! Thank you

You all look wonderful🪞 Richie, don't allow the negativity of a few break your spirit. You are loved, and we see your heart for the plant community....keep your head up🥸🪴😊🫂
We truly appreciate this, thank you so much Dee!💚💚
We love Grow Folds ❤❤❤
💚💚💚
I could listen to these podcasts all damn day.
Thank you! Please do
Yes we need to dose ourselves lightly. It makes it much easier. And don’t get what everyone else is getting. Get what makes you happy. ❤ I have burnt out at least 3 times! LOL
We love this! “Get what makes you happy”💚
How cool Richie! They should bring that idea back. Never know what child would be inspired next. And it gives them responsibility of taking care of something living from start to finish. Very rewarding indeed. Can't say much about the toys they have now. And yes Janee's fur baby Sweetie is adorable. Almost causing a accidental face reveal. Can't wait for the premiere. 😄❤🐕👍
Haha thanks tree!
There already has been one. If you missed it,....dont be around snakes.
😂😂😂😂 Peek a boo
🫣🤭
Lol, you guys are funny
😂💚
Think peace lily and white rose are funeral plants 🤔
Steven with the flex.💪All look amazing. Love the shirts janee and Richie. Cant wait for the next episode. 😍❤👍
Haha thanks! Sporting our monstera shirts
Like I said before. Only when your comfortable and ready to reveal your face. But at the same time it's kinda funny watching you trying to hide behind random things.😄 Wondering what item will you choose next? Love the haircut and shirt. And Steven looks good even without his hat.❤👍
Thank you Tree! I might do a face reveal.
Thanks Tree!
Some people focus on the wrong thing🪴 It's fun and lighthearted and about plants, right?🤔 2025. Let us embrace the opportunity to Be Kind 🌎 especially with the heaviness going on in the world.
Love and agree with your comment 💯percent.❤👍
I totally agree. It's fun to talk about plants. :)
Dee this is perfectly said, thank you so much !
@@Cultivation_Corner Kindness makes the world go round.
I love the mystery of Faceless TH-camrs!!
The mystery might be solved soon! Keep watching :)
We appreciate that!
That’s why I do not watch Richi ‘s videos.
We’re sad to hear that. He has great plant shopping videos and they don’t need to have a person being shown. We hope you reconsider. Thanks Lady June!💚
@@Cultivation_Corner All the love.
Hello there MsLadyJune3285! Its not a problem if you do not watch my videos. I will still continue to make plant videos and work very hard to make that content for those that want to watch it. If anything, my grandmother loves watching my plant videos as she recognizes the amount of hours of work I put into them. Sometimes people choose to not share every part of their life on social media. Happy New Year, and sending you lots of love and kindness :) See you soon!
This was such a fun episode!
I agree!
To group plants by care schedule is not the best thing to do in my opinion. Because if I will place cacti together, aroids together, gesneriads, orchids, bromeliads, etc...together, my house will look like a nursery or a floral shop, and that is a no-no to me. I want a nice living space for my family and multiple cats filled with diversity of well grown plants. I found a decision many years ago. I had to leave for a couple of weeks to visit my mom. My husband was in despair. For him I put in each pot a cocktail straw of different color and a note on the wall: all reds - Monday - 1 cup of water, all pinks - Tuesday - 2 cups of water, and so on, and all yellow - do not water at all. With this "system" he spends one hour every evening and killed only 4 from 400+ plants by overwatering. Right now I will mark only newly repotted plants to keep my eye on them. And are you willing to dedicate one hour is your choice. I do more than one because I want to check every plant "under the tail" for pests. Happy New Year to you, guys! Best wishes!
Happy new year to you as well !
Very true!!!
Hedra helix!!!! Happy new year!
Happy new year!
I'm so hard on myself when a plant isn't doing well.
We are guilty of that too. But we can’t beat ourselves up about it!💚
You guy and gal please keep up this podcast very interesting
Thank you!
Thank you, we will!
Thank you guys for the smiles today. Love "ya'll" 😁
You’re the best Mel!
Happy new year
"Hey Ruth" 😂
Ruth is blessed to have a friend like Janeé!😂
"Respect the plant" lol love that.
Richie was spitting facts
@@Cultivation_Cornerhe’s good at those quotes ❤
I loved the points of styling Steven had. It gets to the point that sometimes, you can't even visually "see" that little cutie you fell in love with at the nursery!
So true!!
Richie, thank you for being transparent with us like that. ❤
💚💚💚💚
Nothing is worse than having like the flu or something when you have a huge collection. Honestly though, cup half full, keeps ya going and for that, it makes me appreciate my collection even more!
It definitely does get rough when your sick!
Richie, I just wanna come over and water for you 😂 A 10 hour a day job is rough and you are literally a superhuman imo for all you do! When do you sleep brotha?! 💕
We need to know when he sleeps as well. 🤔 Richie???
I can answer that. He is a vampire and doesn’t sleep 😂
Comparison is the thief of joy!
💯
From this podcast thus far "Be practical"-Janeé is the best advice all of us could get, but also give ourselves when it comes to our collections, in regards to plant burn out. Richie saying accepting, and forgiveing yourself is so important!
That’s so true!! More kindness to ourselves and be practical
Great episodes!!! Perfection is not reality!!
Thank you Michelle!!
I always appreciate this topic because it is "real talk." Any plant lover goes through it if you have a large collection. I feel like whatever is going on in our lives affects how we care for our plants. That being said, it's always better to maintain a manageable collection so that when those difficult times in life occur (and they will!😔) it won't be so hard to still take care of a smaller collection. I have downsized a lot and going forward for next year I will only buy plants that I absolutely love (rarer Aglaonema, my favorite genus) and maybe a few more hoya. I will try my best to continue to rid myself of the plants that I have now that I am not really loving. Loved this video, ya'll are doing great!!
Missed the live but here having lunch and relaxing with you guys 💚
Thank you so much for sharing this. And we agree, rarer Aglaonemas is on Janeé and Richie’s list as well😂😂 Btw, your aglaonema collection is STUNNING And thank you for your kind words 💚
@Cultivation_Corner Your welcome and thanks for the compliment 😁
Okay plant burn out storytime! Im still consider myself a "new" plant parent and about 85% of my collection has been bought in the last year or so... I started collecting in 2021 to bond more with my mother and sister but during my move in 2022 i went from 30 plants to 16 (damn that texas heat!!) When i got to my new house we theived for about 5 months then i got pregnant, at that point i had about 20 plants. After pregnancy i had 5 plants left from my initial 2021 plant collection...and i call them my OGs. I have my aloe vera, my schefflura amate, my snake plant, and my mixed pothos pot. Now that im back up to 35 plants post pregnancy, balancing motherhood, work, being a wife, and taking care of my hyper active german Shepards when i feel the burn out i check on my OGs, and if they are okay i am okay. Every other plant can kick rocks/be replaced, but my OGs will always be the plants that i look after and can restart my collection around 🥰
Thanks for sharing!! Glad that you have your og’s to still care for despite the busyness of life!💚💚
