My Apprentice Was Struggling, So I Built a CAN Bus Tool!
When my apprentice was desperate to understand how CAN bus systems work, I decided to do something extraordinary. I built an electrical CAN bus simulation board that can mimic real-world CAN faults, making it the ultimate hands-on teaching tool. From basic concepts to diagnosing faults, this tool simplifies everything about CAN bus, making it perfect for beginners and enthusiasts alike. In this video, I’ll show you how I created it, why it works so well, and how it completely changed the way my apprentice learned CAN bus. If you’ve ever struggled to grasp CAN systems, this might just be the solution for you too. Watch to see the tool in action and get inspired to build your own!

    Hello. I was having two issues, on my BMW F20 116i B38 2016, DTC 118001 & 130304. Both errors came along. For the first one, i have changed the - Fuel tank breather valve - OE code part 13907643106, and now the car is running ok. But i still wonder if that fixes the second error, the "130304 VANOS, exhaust: Control fault, camshaft stuck". I have made since then over 1000 km and the error 130304 doesn't appear anymore. Should i be worried, or considering changing the vanos or the vanos actuator? Thank you!

    Would you recommend an i3 to somebody who knows nothing about how to fix a car? I'm eyeing a 2018 BEV 94ah for a little over $13k delivered with no accidents and 4 owners I'd be willing to pay a small consulting fee if you'd like to talk about it. Awesome video thanks very much for doing it. My i3 is currently with a BMW independent trying to find a heater error. The heater has been replaced and the car reprogrammed to the latest spec. £1200 later and they still cant find the fault. E70C3A AC-LIN: EDH does not answer is the error code. All connectors look good and clean in the Fronk but I bet there is a wiring issue elsewhere - do you think I would get more errors if the CAN-BUS was to blame? Thanks again for this very helpful video.

    • @allmech_BMW_fault_finding
      @allmech_BMW_fault_finding 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The LIN is corroded. Its not hard to find that fault. All they need to do is check LIN voltage at the heater and then again at the other part of the LIN I think maybe from BDC or at the 3 big connectors in the frunk to id any differences. Yes if you had CAN faults you would get CAN codes not LIN

      @@allmech_BMW_fault_finding Thanks very much. I will probably ask them for the car back and start checking the connectors myself. Am I looking for 12 volts between one of the connector pins down to ground? I will pull all of the other connectors and look for corrosion. Thanks for your advice, much appreciated. - got the car back now. They have told me the LIN signal at the heater is low but it is good at the Body Control Module. I will trace it all through over the next few days - thanks for your help. Have a good Crimbo.

      Nowhere have you mentioned checking the low pressure side. On some of these the relay burns out. On others with EKPS the in tank pump fails. Check the low pressure amount. P.s. the low pressure value shown on your tester is an estimated value since there is no low pressure sensor installed on this engine 😂 Yes - its pathetic but thats the way they designed it. The pressure ramping up can be because the injectors are leaking more with electrical side connected. My guess - tank pump has spewed gold bits everywhere which are now in your hp fuel system

    Today is my last day at the shop I work at. I've only been meeting my guarantee per week for about 3 months, which is about $660 after taxes, and I said to myself this is not worth it anymore. What finally sealed the deal was that the other day I asked the other tech to stop using my name in conversations with customers if it doesn't pertain to our job, and he took offense. The owner jumped into the conversation and literally got mad at me screaming at the top of his lung "this is my shop and I'll talk to whoever and however I want to." Meanwhile the other tech was trying to gain points making me look bad by backpedaling on things he shared to me months earlier. The owner said he'll never throw us under the bus to a customer, but the other tech shared that the owner did just that only a couple of months ago. In the midst of the owner having a rant, the other tech was listing things he hates about me. He legit said "I hate the music you play." They are both children. I'm 33, the other tech is 44, and the owner is well into his late 50's. Other things, owner offers 5% discount to every customer that walks in on parts and labor, so I'm already working for 5% less pay. He will also let customers slide on the bill if the fix is "simple." I can spend an hour diagnosing a vehicle, correcting the issue, and not get paid for it because we didn't replace any parts.

    I love mechanics that post the junk of the industry. I'm a life long diy guy, and i remember actually working as a tech when VW first introduced the fsi engine. It was amazing that some of the early engines actually suffered from this issue on a much higher level than nowadays. We had some come in on trucks with 25k miles and they were plugged up solid. It's gotten better, but it's still an awful tech. A very simple fix could be a 5th injector like they used to use for cold starts, and have it spray intermittently thru the intake at start up or something. Could easily run a timer in the car to prevent premature shut off while it's cycling. Just a thought? Lol

    The main problem is the oil vapor from the engine breather, mixing with exhaust particles from the egr, blocks up the intake. If manufacturers or ourselves fit oil catch cans in the breather before the intake. Its stops the build up greatly. Its the best all round solution to that whole problem from an environmental point of view. The best solution from a performance and longevity point of view, is no emissions stuff on your vehicle.
