You seemed rather disappointed at the end... They have never seemed super proud of this show, but have discussed their plans for season 2 and season 3. The Langs are known for their over-writting of back story. Little White Lie was a proof of concept project after the brothers found success in a soap opera writting contest and was never meant for youtube. This was a year and a half before AVPM. I am pretty happy they pivoted toward live performance quickly after this... the timing aligned with the dawn of viral youtubes and one of my favorite companies was born! I do want to point you to the most recent Darren Criss/Langs collaboration from 2020 Royalties... a sitcom made for Quibi, the failed short-form streamer. There are ten 15 minute episodes, each featuring a new original Darren Criss song...even one sung by Mark Hamill!

Why is the conclusion of Scrooge's story "at least a year after" Jim and Della's story? I thought it was just the next morning...

The Match Girl is the same actor as the last version's turkey boy... they had her do a video cameo from her role in the 2020 version, as the rest of the 2022 cast was busy in quick costume changes.

These stories are absolutely set between 1860 and 1910... they are just told with an 1980s aesthetic in clothing and music. But the Magi prices match the 1900 price tags, and the concept of a match girl exists... and they nearly straight up mention a date for scrooge.

I missed the first 3 quarters of this live...and backed it up right after the stream ended to see the beginning. I just want to put my vote in to watch the second act as well. True, you did watch another version of this last year...but this is different actors, different staging, and some heart warming tie ins to the previous two chapters... Also, the story of The Little Match Girl is crazy. I was aware of it long before StarKid gave their take...and it's never set right with me. I was dubious when I heard that Starkid was adapting it...and it still it still is bonkers. But now I kinda like it. The version you reviewed last year is probably my favorite thing StarKid has made, so I was pretty critical of this newer version when I first saw it. It took a second viewing for it to grow on me. Now I've seen it many times. It hasn't surpassed Dylan as Scrooge...but I do like this show.

Re-reading This House of Dreams after finishing AW2 will be an interesting experience.

On the topic of Scrooge’s redemption, I really like the silent nature of the third spirit when he’s asking if he can avoid his fate. I don’t think the ghost should necessarily give him a sign about it, just avoid answering completely. That way, Scrooge isn’t just doing good later for himself. He hopes he’ll save himself, sure, but he has no guarantee. He’d do good for the sake of doing good. (BB if you see this, have you ever watched the movie Scrooge from 1970? That’s probably my favorite adaptation, and it’s also a musical lol)

They built the character up in reappearances as a ride tech in WatcherWorld and a PizzaPete waiter in Jane's a Car... however his inclusion as a ticket taker in HoneyQueen cemented him as a different nerdy teen, as Pete was busy at Abstinence Camp during the Honey Festival. 22:38 Also, "Boy Toy" DID win the competition...

You noted several of the song lead-ins that were not... Darren Criss wrote all the songs for this show and helped to form the story. This was kind of his pet project. He promised the Langs 16 songs, but was promptly cast in Glee... and he was only able to deliver 8 songs. And he delivered them super late. The musical gets pretty meta as the characters' frustration toward the Galactic League of Extraterrestrial Exploration increase with the playwright's frustration with the Fox show of the same acronym.

If you want to force this into Hatchetfield cannon, we could say this is the cast of the Starlight's production of BBQ Monologues (as advertised on the Workin' Girls Playbill) rather than the Highschool's version. And, given it is a different cast than the one featured in NPMD, we could assume this is the same group of actors from Watcher World. If you recall, those actors were also named Jeff, Joey, Lauren, and Angela...same as the people featured in this TNTL. ...if you try hard enough, we can connect this all to the Black and White.

I don’t know if you saw it, but this is what Ruths playbill bio said :) Ruth Fleming is so fucking stoked for her acting debut! This is the best thing that's ever happened to me, I mean HER. Ruth ran the lights for her schools shitty production of The Barbecue Monologues and was also the Assistant Stage Manager for The Wizard of Oz... it sucked. She got bullied and excluded by the whole cast even though her job was just as important as theirs. More important actually! Being in the cast is way better. You don't have to think of an excuse to barge into the dressing rooms, you can just walk right in! Everybody takes off their shirts and let's their titties tumble free! Others have already pointed out that Richie wasn’t found in the locker room, he was allowed to run and tortured by max for hours (hence why they didn’t find him during the game), as for why they had him take a shower, Richie (as the mascot) would likely be dancing around other people and they probably wouldn’t want him to stink while around others. For all we know it could be common for them to have Richie take a shower during every break time. You don’t want the rep as the school with the smelly mascot especially when going against your sworn enemies.

1:27:03 Richie was definitely attacked before half-time. However he is still alive after “Nerdy Prudes Must Die” as the opening scene to the musical shows him fleeing calling out for help (though because of the game being played he cannot be heard). This also means that Max let him run out of the locker room to flee while chasing him down. He also suffered multiple lacerations and experienced a purple nurple before being drowned presumably in a toilet so he must have died prior to the game’s conclusion so the body and the bloody writing can be discovered. At least that makes the most sense with what we know.

just saying for what I understand is at the ending, where Grace is singing 'Dirty Dudes Must Die', I believe she's possessed to do the bidding of "the sillies". my reasoning for this is back in the song "the sillies" were singing, they literally sang "Forever in our debt" and "the book is all BUT closed on your life", meaning whomever paid the price was going to be in debt to them for the rest of their life. Since Steph and Pete weren't able to pay the price they were given, I believe Grace ( during the time they were singing together ) went back to the Lords in Black to volunteer for herself to pay instead ( finally realizing this was all her fault and not wanting one of them to die in her place, when they just went along with her plan ). Since Grace was the one to pay the price, she is now the only one indebted to the Lords in Black. she's now possessed to gather souls for them for the rest of her life. also, during that whole song 'Dirty Dudes Must Die', she's actually very erratic and possessed-like and screaming "run you little bitch" confindentally ( when Grace would never unless past her breaking point like when the cops were after her ). plus that vocal effect on the last "RUN", she's possessed! (at least while she's gathering a soul for them ) I don't know if Nick or Matt Lang have ever said it, or if its canon, but to me, it seems very heavily implied.

About Ruth and Richie, i think they already a previous relationship that didnt work out for either of them.

In the after-police scene when steph says “leave ruth alone” ruth grabs her hand and steph slowly pulls it back, then ruth just smirks to the audience. Its in the digital ticket. Thats my favorite part

1:27:09 In the song "Go Go Nighthawks" the announcer welcomes the Clivesdale Chemists to the field, but the players gather before the game starts to say how proud they are of eachother... paying special homage to Zeek, but then send him to the showers. He went to the showers BEFORE the game started. The coroner estimated he was killed at 8pm, and his body was discovered by the janitor the next morning, face down in a toilet.

to add to the suit jacket argument: i went to an exchange to france and one of my classmate wore a suit to school every day. white dress shirt, suit jacket, dress pants, fancy leather shoes. no tie tho. he honestly looked pretty cool in my eyes but too professional, kinda hard to approach. i have no idea how he did it, he wore the dress suit every day and the only time i saw him in anything else was during gym.

To answer some questions during the Miss Holloween section 1. The reason Wiley and Holloway are able to kill each other is due to the Black Blade which although it has not been explained seems to have some grander power imbued into it 2. The Lords in Black do have parents. They’ve been left a bit in the dark but apparently their dad was some Azathoth-like entity which created them 3. Wiggly was described as the ruler of the Black and White in Black Friday so him being the leader (and maybe eldest) of the brothers was inferred before this
