I more or less always use the hpi gymkhana tires. I don't think there's a big difference in performance compared to the tarmac tire but the placement of the reinforcement ribs inside the tire are different. on #109747 (gymkhana) they are closer to the center but on #108076 (tarmac) the outer ones are close to the shoulder of the tire, where the max wear usually happens. I think I had a closed cell foam back in the day that allowed the ribs to go down in the grooves, reducing side wall flexing even more than just the quality of the material. I think this gave me more even wear of the tires. I have a set of the hpi gravel tires but for the front I have hold the hinge pins with a printed clip and the smaller gravel wheels don't fit with these clips. Mostly driving on my own, I don't have to optimize that much, just get a nice feeling with the car and try to drive clean :)

@@TheRCBoys117 I think they are a good compromise, yeah. In winter conditions there's probably a better option but I dont actively search for it as these give me opportunity to go more sideways and I kinda like that.. 😁

I had a few laps with my own car later, driving line of sight, but I don't think I beat this time. Probably my setup has gone more towards tarmac as that's what I'm doing mostly

@@jakub5243 it's difficult to say :) I could have used a bit more steering in the most narrow corners, which I think I could have gained by raising it a little. Also having a bit more speed and brake would probably have helped. I dunno what times the locals does on this layout but I was quite happy with this :)

@@TheRCBoys117 Thanks mate! 😊 I think the CEN is a nice option. I prefer the puma shell over the current WR8 shells. The Carisma Subaru is also good but I think the un-sealed diffs are a bit shady. CEN might have some weaker knuckles design but it's faster to stay off the barriers anyway so I try to keep it on the track and hope for the best. And I think it's got a really nice factory setup and feel. Hard to judge. Was ages since I had a factory WR8 tho.. 😅

@@MauzyrockRC I stood the shocks more upright. Think they were inner lower hole in front shock tower and lower center in the rear. No change on arms. Don't remember if I turned the collars after that as well, but that would have been a finer tune then. Owner was well happy when he got it back.. 😁

@@somedudewithakeyboard You gotta put in a few hours in google maps. That's where I spot most of the possible tracks. Some aren't as good irl and it can be harad to know for sure if there's no street view or outdated images, but sometimes you hit the jackpot! ;)

@@somedudewithakeyboard I hear ya! ;) Some ppl get interested, some pull away. maybe rigging some camera gear can scare some off without disclosing that your gonna rally in a bit. I guess you could try talking to them, but I never do.. 😅 But also the timing, if weather seems a bit uncertain goint towards rain, most ppl are likely to go indoors, so if its a track close by you can use that to your advantage. I mostly just hang around and wait for a good opportunity. I usually run 2 packs, which takes about 1,5 - 2h with filming included. The more time spent, the harder it gets to edit because the light can change a lot but for driving it's fine. Maybe just take a couple of slower laps to see what ppl are up to, show your intentions and if they hate it too much, hopefully they leave.. 😁

@@MauzyrockRC Thanks mate! :) It takes a lot of remembering the corners because it's often the case that most of it apart from the entry is hidden. I also tried it with 10th scale cars and they had more margin for error due to being smaller and having better turning radius :)

@@MauzyrockRC this is good for 10th scale or smaller. WR8 and CEN is tricky as there's a bit too sharp corners.

We tried to run it in the evening that same day but it had some poor soldering on one of the motor wires so, unfortunately no more driving that thing this weekend 🤷‍♂

I had a go with the Lancia after I stopped this filming. Then I also drove my WR8 for a few laps. Obviously it's a bit cramped for the WR8, but I managed to do some half decent laps I think 😁

@@TheRCBoys117 Thanks mate! ☺️ The lights are a long story. I've build them myself. Consists of a 3D-printed light pod that I designed off pics of the real one. Then I bought a set of integy roof lights and ditched all but the light buckets. I also switched the LEDs to 4x1W. Looks great in the night but doesn't really shine far enough to be able to drive fast with them 😅 I had them on shapeways but it seems they went bankrupt so I'm not sure what to do.. 🤷

Thanks mate! 😊 Regarding the zip line, indeed you did... 😁I've been trying to use it a few times. It's tricky to have it go at the same speed as the car as it's only driven by gravity. Dropping it and then fetching it is a lot of work so we get those shots but no other. Also takes some time to rig it for a very specific shot so the need for a bigger crew is appearing.. 😅

@@modernart86 I was gonna try my hpi RS4 with drift tires and the FPV but I had a lot of problem that later turned out to be a cable broken inside the insulation.. I should also try drifting again at some point 🙂

Yup! I think it's completely amazing! 😍 No drone mate! it's the cable car cam.. 😅 IT consists of a tent line and a wagon that I hang i the line that carries the camera... This is also my own design... 😉 And regarding the steering linkage, me too! 😃No more jams! And this track place where I tested it has only been this clean this particular weekend. I think they had just swept up the gravel used in the winter. However, my cuts bring more pebbels from the grass and everywhere so I'm quite sure it should be a good upgrade! 👌

Jag har inte velat såga ut rutan ur Puman så den kan ju bara köra där jag har line of sight, å det är ju typ ingenstans där jag kan göra filmer.. 😅 Jag har kört 8 ackar med Puman, ändrat lite på dämparna, styrningen å satt kränghämmare i bak. Tycker den går riktigt bra nu på min testbana ;)

The one inside the car is the FPV camera, a caddx nebula pro (this doesn't record audio). On the side I have mounted a runcam2 with a 3Dprinted bracket.

Thanks mate! 😊 I think different situations favours different method. A good overview will better show you the complete situation. If the car slides in FPV it's easy to see the amount of rotation, but to determine if it will stay on the road you also need the speed and that is a bit more tricky in FPV. At least that's the feeling I get from looking back att the footage sometimes, I counter the slide, but it wasn't all that bad, or I could have let it go for a bit longer. However, it's usually not possible to get that good overview in the tracks that I run. Due to the narrow roads I'd need to get almost right behind the car so then FPV is still the best alternative until I can levitate... 😉 I think driving a video game is a good comparison. Games offer just a bit more information to the driver such as force feedback if on a wheel but also the sound effects of engine revs and tires. This helps improve the feeling a bit. In the RC the amount of sound feedback is dependent of the distance from the car and that usually varies a bit over the lap. Going digital makes me able to more freely pick my driving spot but still, I think a mic in the car would make sense to have the same sound situation at all times. I took the heli sound from an old WRC vid so it is how it was 15 years ago ;) Maybe I shouldn't have muted all RC sound? I'll think about it for the future 🙂

@@jdpasltrains Like with a gradient? It's good if the ground doesn't get darker. Ideally I'd wanna set the light metering to spot or center weighted but I still think I'd get some tricky conditions sometimes

@@jdpasltrains Why do you want the windscreen more open? I think the real car is similar, I cut to where the sun strip starts on the window decal. Of course I think I have the cam closer to the roof that where the driver sit so it still might not be 100% true to scale.

@@Weekend-Driver Yeah but problem is camera is not same as human eye. Camera is kind fish eye. I had Traxxas 4TEC car and cut open wide window so I can see better and feel comfortable.

I need to figure out a way to get the FPV cam mounted on the Puma first, this place is not possible line of sight. Then I can have a go! 😃
