I Built a Paludarium for my Rainbow Boa, What Happened?
A lot has happened in this ecosystem since it was build for my Rainbow Boa over a year ago! From Leaks and water troubles to plant successes and failures, I definitely learned a lot and wanted to share my findings. Fine tuning an ecosystem can have it's challenges, but once everything gets dialed in, these vivariums can basically be on autopilot with minimal maintenance.
I know I've been gone for a while now, and I've been tinkering away at this video since I last posted over a year and a half ago so this one is a long one in the making. I can't promise every video will be this over top, but hopefully this one was worth the wait!

does your particular boa have a nippy temperament?...mine does( mine has been nippy since babyhood...she is now about 4 feet long). i try to not hold her near my face.. beautiful species.
Wow😊😊❤❤
I didn't know retics had a dwarf version, in Malaysia where im from, they get huge, but i always admire the wild big ones, unfortunately rarely see big ones but a lot of smaller ones in the city
Why wouldnt you introduce that beautiful snake? What kind , whats her name?
@@MathewGallagher-u9c haha fair, her name is Lola the boa, she’s a Brazilian Rainbow Boa This video is kind of like a deleted scene of the build video which mentions her 😂

Can you update on the enclosure now ?
I got you 🤜 🤛 I Built a Paludarium for my Rainbow Boa, What Happened? th-cam.com/video/6JyEIS3LFhs/w-d-xo.html
Hi Travis, phenomenal videos and build. You’ve actually inspired me to take on a project like this on my own! Question, I see you’ve listed an underwater air pump in the description but I don’t think I’ve seen it in the videos. Did you ultimately find that you didn’t need it? It did you still add it and if so how did you route it? Thanks so much!!
It’s there! It’s what’s creating the bubbles in the water. The line is buried under the gravel and then up a tube in the background. The pump itself is sitting on top of the paludarium
Perfect. Doing some brainstorming now. Thanks again for the help and the wonderful videos
Amazing so inspiring I’m gonna do the same for my boa!
beware. LOTS of dwarfs are fake , even from reputable people.
100% agree You have to be so careful with this
OH MY GOSH!!! Watched this reel right now😍😍😍 I’d like so much to get one😰😍😇 Where have you found her???? So cute and adorable!!! Name????
Lola (the boa) Amazing snake, found a breeder Though they do hide quite a lot, not always the best display
Cool Video and cool Paludarium😍😍
This build is incredible and inspired me to build a custom enclosure for my ball python. I included a waterfall feature and I too dealt with a LOT of water issues. I ended up shutting the water fall down. Eventually, I want to get a BRB and build this exact enclosure. You did a GREAT job with the look. I can’t wait to see what your next build will look like
@@adammiechiels9432 thank you!! And yes those water features can be a real thorn in your side, but if/when you get it right, they’re great!
0:15 ok but when I say this transition was _clean_-
Sweet video, do you have the link to the enclosure?
Very interesting and well done video! Glad you're still posting, love your snake and her enclosure 😁
That’s a really cool shed! Used to love it when any of my snakes would get it off in one piece. She’s gorgeous, and so is the enclosure too 🥰
I have a ball python and a Kenyan sand boa. I have never gotten a complete unbroken shed from either of them
@@Aceboogie420 it’s rare! Haha Though with a BRB, humidity isn’t the problem, but she tears it on things when getting it off
Love this! What I used to make my substrate barrier higher is use a clear-cutting board from the dollar store ( super flexible but could probably use a hard 1 too). I just cut it to what size I wanted and put it on top of the drainage layer and screen and used the soil to keep in place. You probably could silicone it too but I didn't bc I was only doing this for a crestie. So far it's been doing great with no issues Thanks again for sharing. Have a great day.
Gorgeous animal and Garrett seems like an awesome guy
Your watch is gay
for the siphon use a cheep syringe!
How big do these get??
5-7ish feet, not too big
Why did you not add clay balls or leacha
@@eppuh7251 I did, this video is part 2 :)

Just a heads up but the tint you used in the dry lock is toxic to plants & animals. You’re better off using kids paint to tint it
@@12doodlebug83 hey thanks for the heads up! I checked before the build but after seeing this I just checked again to be sure: the tint is safe once cured and dry. But acrylic paint is another good option
@ personally I don’t have experience with it but there’s a ton of people that have recently come out saying they’ve had issues with plants/animals dying after using it and it being linked to the tint. I’m currently working on a couple enclosures, one of which is for a rainbow boa. It will have a water feature in part of it so I’ve been in the rabbithole of what to use/not to use lol! th-cam.com/video/jfJ7r5nW3kA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=0CpQDLbiuLiO1ceg
Bro your editing, production and quality is amazing on these
This is the best paludarium build/ edit I have ever seen online. Thank you! If you aren’t being sponsored yet, you should be!
Esp as someone w a little experience, the tinkering is so real. All of the perspectives I’ve thought about are mentioned ie 5 gallon water subscription, water feature details and inhabitants (first time I’ve seen a successful fish community sharing an aquarium with a boa, so cool!),which live plants you have trial and errored. All around great video, just felt the need to elaborate what really got me hooked. I’m in my 30s and have been on yt for half my life, I’ve only commented like a dozen times ever. This was comment worthy.
Also if you dump 5gal of water in the toilet, assuming it’s not clogged already and your water doesn’t have chunks of debris in it, the toilet will flush itself as it gets too full (I learned this from watering massive amounts of house plants) you won’t need to dump dirty tank water all over your front porch. Also idea for instead of using your mouth to syphon the water, maybe a small water pump surrounded w a fine sponge in the drainage layer w similar tubing leading outside would be a chill alternative!
Hey, Thanks for the feedback! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. A lot of this hobby really is tinkering and trial/error to see what works best. Definitely not sponsored at this point, and still figuring out what I’m comfortable with that looking like but for now, I’m trying to keep the channel a passion project. Hoping to upload more soon(ish)
Random comment but can we see your dwarf retics enclosure or just a vid abt it? I’m potentially bringing a dwarf home in the next 1-2 weeks and I look everywhere for enclosure setup ideas and I’d want you specifically as a base bc your work and passion is incredible
For sure, it’s one of my older vids but I posted about it here 65 Gallon Bioactive Vivarium with Waterfall for Python // I Didn’t Think This Would Happen… th-cam.com/video/q7YKNoOvfS0/w-d-xo.html He’s definitely overdue for an upgrade
Just a little tip i learned from building custom Dungeons and Dragons sets for about a decade out of XPS foam... instead of using a wire brush or serrated knife... crumple up some aluminum foil into a ball and with some pressure run it over the foam... it's a whole less messier, though it's not as easy to paint afterwards since it's still smooth surface rather than being all roughed up.... but you don't find tiny XPS chunks in your buttcrack a year later
This is top tier content in every way. Great job, thanks for sharing, and please dont stop!
Epic build, cinematography and editing! Very high quality, very enjoyable!

ur video quality is so great and the way u edit ur videos is so good I'm still don't know how you only have 3k subs keep up with the great work it will pay off
Incredible video! I have just purchased my first rainbow boa and I am looking into building his next enclosure like this! Did you cover the screen mesh top at all? Is the waterfall enough to keep the humidity up? Do you have any issues keeping a consistent heat gradient with a glass enclosure?
@@LeesaLilHop congrats! And yeah I have the screen top covered with glass which helps with the humidity. I have a second heater above the branch to help with heat

I also have a bioactive home for my new Brazilian rainbow boa, and the umbrella plant also didn't do well in it. It started turning purple leaflet by leaflet so I removed it. The dragon's tongue also died, and my juanita fittonia is doing too hot--even though it seems like it might recover now in a different spot, I'll probably replace it with a calathea. My arrowhead plant is doing the best, and I'll be adding some pothos to the back soon. The bromeliad is dying back, but probably only because it has a pup now. And my peperomia is doing good too. My rainbow boa is a baby, so I thought maybe I just had humidity that was a bit too high for some of the plants. Thank you for these awesome findings, this really helps narrow down possible plants for the future!
such good production quality. Keep consistency and you’ll get big, my advice is change style of the title of your vid/s aswell as thumbnail
@@ThatClipsmith thanks! And yeah packaging is always so tricky 😵
