Richard Yardumian was my great, great uncle
Richard Yardumian was my great, great uncle. His sister was my great grandmother. I treasure his music being here on TH-cam, only way I've ever heard his compositions. I knew he was a composer for the Philadelphia orchestra. My Kurkjian/Yardumian side of the family were from Philadelphia, initially from Armenia. Richard's sister, my great grandma Flora sang for the Queen of England after they fled from Armenia. Their dad, my great, great granddad Haig Yardumian was the founder of the first Armenian Christian church in Philadelphia. I was blessed to sing there one time for a family reunion. I'm a born and raised Texan, so this was all a new experience for me. I had never had Armenian food nor met that side of my family before.
I was born in Bournemouth, so this is my 'local' orchestra, and in the 1970s I played this vinyl LP of Yardumian's music frequently. The orchestra also made an LP of Yardumian's magnificent "Passacaglia, Recitative and Fugue", with John Ogdon as piano soloist. That is a marvellous work, especially the final fugue, and it was the second time John had recorded the piece, as he had previously made an LP of it for RCA, which you can hear here: Passacaglia: th-cam.com/video/Wq9OqqlDgEU/w-d-xo.html Recitative: th-cam.com/video/mXWPDgaU5DI/w-d-xo.html Fugue: th-cam.com/video/OK86ItjJBME/w-d-xo.html John also recorded an LP of Yardumian's solo piano music for EMI, but it was only available as part of a 5LP set called "Pianistic Philosophies". Your great, great uncle was a composer with an individual style, and I hope one day we will hear more of his memorable music. I value it highly.

I have some of her Grieg. Terrific performer. And Sinding was terrific too. We should hear more of him.
Controversial but honest opinion: Christian Sinding was a greater composer than Edvard Grieg. Compare Grieg's piano sonata vs. Sinding's. Mark Ehrenfried recorded an unbelievable Sinding piano sonata, so did Jerome Lowenthal. This is the area where I think Sinding has a massive edge on Grieg. Compare Sinding's 'Frühlingsrauschen' vs. any short piano piece Grieg wrote. Compare Sinding's 4 symphonies vs. Grieg's 1. Compare Sinding's chamber works vs. Grieg's. Take into account this work especially. Did Edvard Grieg ever write anything bettter than this quintet? If so, what? Compare Sinding's piano concerto and 3 violin concerti vs. Grieg's piano concerto. Ask yourself who has the edge based on how good their music sounds and what genres they covered. Taste is very much a factor but I think Sinding's only less popular because Grieg is Norway's national composer, while Sinding worked in the German tradition.

This is marvellous. Why it isn’t performed in the concert halls I’ll never understand. That also goes for most of his music. If you get a chance, listen to his symphonies. Especially his 11th, the winter symphony. It is such a pleasure to listen. Over the years I’ve become a big fan of his music. Thanks for uploading this

Very, very rare piece and what a piece. Great orchestration all round. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
I had to look twice to see if this piece wasn't actually written by a South American composer. Such are the rhythms and accents in certain places. It's certainly a vibrant composition.
