This channel was originally designed during COVID to keep interest alive in ON30 model trains. I have added some content since then but have been perusing my interest in WW1 narrow gauge models.

Testing Lambert Locomotive works Newest magnetic coupler. The Mk. IV Magnetic Link and Pin Coupler set is a significantly more complicated design than the original first test of a magnetic coupler I did in a previous video. Dylan had figured out how to make the couplers magnets swivel so that magnet orientation is no longer an issue. It passed my test. My apologies for getting my finger in the ...
ON30 string of work cars.

Sorry for my lack of posts lately. We moved and all my stuff has been in storage. I built this little work train for a friend. It took a test spin and the cars are now packed and ready for their new home. I wish I took another video looking down into the cars as they are full of details. I did take pictures of the cars so maybe I can create a power point video. FYI the string of cars from Mount...

ON30 Boulder Valley BVM box cab - Micro Layout
absolutely amazing
Incredible work!
Where is this lay out at? I been up to Monte Cristo a lot of times. I remember back in the early 70's there was a little store and about 6 cabins there along with the old turntable. No much left not. There is a great book called Monte Cristo if can find it. Thanks
The Layout is in SC.
WOW
Do they even make those engines anymore
They are not currently available except used. They are nice locomotives if you can get one.
Bachmann just announced a rerun of these locomotives
Such a cool layout, would love to see it in person one day. This was a very good tour! ;)
It reminds me of photos I've seen of John Allen's Gorre and Dephith RR.
Great Modeling!!!
Thank you.
What a great video Larry!!
Very impressive sir! Exceptional work...
Thank you! Cheers!
Great layout idea!! VERY CREATIVE!!
Glad you liked it!!
This looks really great. WW1 trench railroads are the perfect way to combine a love of model railroading and a love of military modeling all in one place.
Yes, it is nice to combine hobbies.
¿Escala?

Where do you get all your on30 trains or are they all custom
I little of each, some are modified, some are built from kits and some are custom work I did.
This is just the thing for someone who likes to create military scenes. It really does have nice detail.
Thank you, I am currently building a RR set in France in 1918.

@@BigLarsON30 Thanks. I will.
Lars, a very nice video of a fantastic layout. I wanted to ask about your Micro Layout and the hand laid switches you made. How did you make those? Since you are working with 10" radius curves are the diverging tracks also a 10" radius? Do you have a video showing how you made those turnouts? I ask because I am looking to build a portable layout for shows and I too have 10" radius curves. If I hand lay my track and turnouts I could get more into it than I would with manufactured turnouts. So I am seeking some advice.
I have never made a video on building switches as Fast tracks already has a great series of videos and they also sell jigs, which I use. Here is a link to their site. www.handlaidtrack.com/
@@BigLarsON30 I thought maybe your turnouts matched your tight radius curves.
I've had the honor of operating this layout several times. It is brilliant. Thanks for making and posting this video for others to enjoy!
Excellent If you are in the area I would like to connect and see if we can go over and have a proper operating session.
A great ride. Thanks for sharing that one👍
A proper tour of the whole layout that captures surrounds and atmosphere. Noting the retaining walls and tunnel linings. The abandoned incline/grade too. Very neat way of capturing the scenes.
Wow! It’s huge!!
Mighty damn good for a first try with raw footage!
The nature sounds drew my cats' attention.
Great video! Where did you get the 2 story house next to Dr. Elwood Blues? It is really cool.
It is a scratch build.
@@BigLarsON30 Really nice!
Love your switches! I assume you built them. Do you have sort of how-to on that?
Thank you, the turnouts and track work are hand laid. Fast Tracks already has videos on building these so it's best to follow those instructions. www.handlaidtrack.com/fast-tracks-videos
why are your videos so short? Please make longer videos
I usually make the videos and posts them when someone asks me a question about something, and I need a place to store the videos. The proof as I may call it only requires a short video. When I get my full railroad operational, I will then be able to provide longer content.
Nice!
thank.you.for sharing
I’m sorry, but the sound track is terrible …
It was all I had when the pandemic started. This video was to make up for friends not getting to a train show. Sorry you do not approve.
slow ‘em down!!!!
Nice
Reminds me to my childhood. Very well done, so sweet and beautiful. Pls send us longer vids.
Go Leafs Go!
Thanks for the demo Lars! Looks like those couplers work great.
I really like how these couplers look but i afraid for a switching On30 they may not work no way to "push" cars onto hard to reach trackage to spot any info on that would be great very nice model railroad
So that’s a question I’ve been tossing around for a while. To my mind there’d need to be some sort of remote uncoupling mechanism. Someone suggested some sort of bar to come up from between the couplers, pop them apart. When I’ve uncoupled the Mk. I and Mk. IV designs, i just used an uncoupling tool as a lever to split the cars apart
I see that Lambert loco works uses a Bach fa chassis and makes a body she'll too.. Q...Where can I get the torpedo air tanks like on the top of this one??
Scratch build them out of some solid plastic tube. You can make the cones at the end by putting the rod in a drill chuck, spinning and sanding to shape. Then brass rod for the pipes. Boulder Valley Models did make some in the past. Also look at HO parts for a GP9 TT - they might work on a smaller unit. Good luck.
Thank you for the demo. I was thinking of using these couplers.
Holla - die kleine Lok hat eine ganz schön hohe Zugkraft. Hut ab. Nette Anlage
They can pull a good number of free rolling cars on flat layouts.
More and longer videos please!. Love your work, you have been giving me so much inspiration on my On30 trains.. Thanks Dave..
Thank you, My current layout is very small so longer videos might get boring. I am open to suggestions on content.
@@BigLarsON30 Well at least 5 minutes or so, not less than 2 min. ones.. I like to look and study the landscape and colors used, weathering, types of buildings/structures, loco's and equipment ect. My wife thinks i'm nuts playing your videos over and over just to see and study.. like certain mods on your loco's type of rollingstock and other things ect.. One other question is how you got your porter here to run so good and slow.. mine is awful.. the gearing in these things are crap, iv'e taken it down a few times and found the pin that holds the gear in the center of the internal chassis is sloppy, even after changing them out. the gear has too much slop and shifts/wiggles left and right not meshing right. just a bad design i guess, it's worse when you go to backup, we call em coffee grinders..LOL!.. I really don't want to order another main chassis from bachmann due to the parts price and shipping.. I don't think the loco is worth to fix?. Bachmann had way too many problems with their On30 loco's with bad gears. (And same with their other scales) The best ones are their 2-6-0s, I have 3 and after tinkering run great!. The other Full metal die cast body 4-4-0 is great too!.
@@crockett11000 Thanks for the info I will see what I can do. As for the layout build, I did write a thread on it railroad-line.com/node/30818 You might get some of what you need there. I have never had a gear issue on a porter, early first versions ones had issues with plunger pickup system to gather track power. I have 11 of them at this point and have worked on at least 100 others. Any porters in the videos have keepalives installed in them. I was doing this as a side gig but stopped due to lack of time. Hope this helps.
@@BigLarsON30 When your modeling is as good as yours, longer videos would definitely not be boring. Your micro layout looks awesome. Thank you for sharing your model railroading hobby.
