Luddenham Nissan nx
Trying the DJI action camera out at luddenham. Finally got the tuning relatively good so was able to put in some decent laps despite showers on and off all day. This would have been a low 54 high 53 lap.

Finally got the tuning sorted and got a few good laps. Sporadic showers through the day unfortunately limited going as fast as we could have! But happy with the progress all the same.

    Using my 40watt K40 I've only been able to get through 1/8 mdf using 8-14 passes at 17 mA and about 8 mm/s. That's with air assist. Can't believe this video is the 40 watt. (yes - 8-14 passes)

    Thanks for posting this Glen, very interesting. I'd really like to get a similar setup soon. I've got a few questions: What's your motivation for more HP and higher speed? You already seam to have a fast and powerful setup compared to other similarly sized mills. Is your example 1mm WOC, 10mm DOC, 1100mm/min typical for what you'd use for hogging aluminium? The finish looked pretty good! How much do you think you've got invested in the full setup now? How much time do you think you've spent putting it together? You know where I'm going with this, how do you think it compares to a Sieg Kx1/kx3 , small Tormach or equivalent 'turn key' cnc mill?

    • @HyzerGlen
      @HyzerGlen 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mark thanks for the comment :) Higher speed is better in general for the smaller size end mills that i've used (<10mm as the cost spirals up for bigger sizes). Most of the calculated figures are ~ 16k RPM but the bearings i put in are good to 12k, so 10 is a nice safe figure hopefully. The higher HP is just a resultant of needing a better motor controller honestly. The stock brushless DC is quite good, the controller that it's attached to is awful. The internal PID is very sloppy and the control pot voltage that the computer controls the spindle with to output rpm is extremely non linear. Meaning linuxcnc has to have its own feedback and PID loop to control it, the two fighting each other is very messy... but it works well so far thanks to my friend Jake that did a lot of work on it.. Using a standard VFD will be much more clean of an install and means i can implement a few other features like spindle reverse for tapping and stop motion if the spindle stalls. Otherwise yeah the power and speed etc etc is great. With a bit more time to experiment the speeds can surely be ramped up a little more. 10mm + 1100 is the highest I've gone so far, the motor struggles at 1300 so best to play it safe when its running $40+ end mills! Investment - $2300 in the raw basic mill and basic tools, stand etc etc, probably $1500 minimum in the CNC components (steppers, mounts, ballscrews, electronics etc) plus easily another $1500 - 2k in misc tooling. Tormach TTS, end mills, the gas struts a bigger vice etc etc. Doubt there would be change from $5000, and probably $6k by the time i am happy. It's taken one year from deciding to pull the trigger to having it working, i spent many months idle on the project though so lets say 6 month if you committed to getting the thing together properly. Another 6 to get it setup with linuxcnc and learning to cad and cam for the mill for sure (for me anyway). Haven't tried a Sieg although the Kx1 is definitely too small, Kx3 looks nice but the spindle rpm and the rapid speed is MUCH slower than mine apparently 500mm/m? Mine is nearly 5000mm/m. Not great for the money. HOWEVER i would definitely love to get a tormach and reckon they are great value. The 440 is a bit smaller than mine but probably about the same price if we based things on the US price. More rigid too. The 1100 is nearly 20k in australia so not really an option. Have bought a lot of parts from tormach though which have been great and the service is amazing so if it's available to you would recommend going that route :) Having a turn key package is worth a lot of $, unfortunately there just isn't one here forcing me to go DIY. There is so much information out there that picking appropriate parts is easy and most of the linuxcnc / mach 3 setting up can be pulled from google given the wealth of knowledge out there. Don't regret anything so far!

    I have the K40 Moshidraw and I can not cut 3mm MDF I have tried slow speed high current slow speed low current High speed High current and high speed at low current and all I can do is cut about 1mm into the MDF.I am wondering if air assist might help then I can use high power slow speed. I am wishing I had never spent my money on a K40 now and would definitely not recommend a K40 to anybody except my Wife's ex.If anybody has any thoughts my email is bill.parker@live.co.uk Cheers Bill

    Correct: Your narrative of what you did with the carburetors (left/right or front/rear; leaner or richer fuel mixture) is EXTREMELY non-existent. So, you're leaving it up to "us" to experiment... without giving insights as to what you're doing with the carb adjustments (up/down... to raise or lower one side or the other.) Poor narrative.

    • @JasonWW2000
      @JasonWW2000 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      What he's doing is right in the title. He's balancing the 2 carburetors. His homemade manometer is hooked to the bikes vacuum ports and he's adjusting the throttle linkage that opens both carbs so that at idle, both carbs are creating the same vacuum or both carb butterflies are opened exactly the same amount. All the details of how to do this will be in a factory service manual for your specific bike. The only difference is this fellow is using a much cheaper version of a rather expensive tool that dealers use and he is getting the same exact results. If you have specific questions, let us know and we can help.

    Well done. I also have a Sieg C6 (AL-60). I suggest you use the angular approach in the future. This will give you better threads and put less pressure on the cutting tool because you are only cuttng on the leading edge of the tool. With the sieg C6's lack of rigiduty these factors make a big improvement. I would also suggest using HSS instead of the carbide as it will also help imprive the finish of your threads and redust the stress on the lathe. Good luck and have fun.
