I love astrantia. They’re not trendy, but common cottage flowers in the UK. Lesser known in the US. I have a variegated pink variety growing under a black walnut tree. Flowering for me is June through early to mid July. Zone 6B US

My research tells me that Alliums grown from seeds will take, at least, 3 years growing in the garden before they bloom not the following summer if seeds are planted in the fall. ????
Hi Vic! It is a bit difficult to grow decorative Allium from seeds, but if you water young plants well and feed them with nitrogen-containing fertilizers, the Allium bulbs will grow from seeds very quickly and flowering can be obtained the following year.

Hi! That's a good question. It all depends on how much the cuttings want to live. Usually the first roots form in 3-4 weeks. I check this by testing how firm the cuttings are in the soil (I pull them up to feel if there is root resistance). Periodically you need to aerate the cuttings, to prevent rot I remove a plastic bottle every 3-4 days for 10-15 minutes. If the plant has enough of its own growth hormones, rooting is not necessary. It is obligatory to do it in the spring. Have a nice day!

I live in zone 5B, southern Vermont. I do not lift my allium bulbs in the fall, just leave them in the ground. They come up healthy.
