A great setup is very important. I had to tweak mine before I really liked it. I've had some of those basses, and the necks were "iffy". The "BOOM" control adds more of a low-mid growl.
No, the pickups are PASSIVE. The 9 volt battery powers the BOOM control, but the pickups are wired to the BOOM control, so you need the battery to hear the bass, as the jack completes the circuit. I've owned more than a few of those basses, and STILL use one today.

You ever figure out the ping situation? Is there a way to fix that?
No I sure didn't. That was the 1st and last time I played that guitar. I may not have mentioned it in the video but while using it with effects it works well. Straight acoustic it had that ping. BUT.. I suspect if we change strings it may change that timbre... !!

I have a 5-string variant of this bass. These basses don't ship with a battery installed, that's why the "Boom" knob wasn't doing anything. You need to add your own battery.

My GSR came with a "cheapo" 9-volt battery. It's gray in color.

Great player, really well informed. The BOOM knob is a bass boost,which essentially is an active preamp. I don’t like it, I feel it muddies up the sound. I understand it is an entry level instrument. You can disconnect it and the pickups will work without the battery, they are passive pickups -it is just an active preamp.

I've been using Ibanez instruments for about 27 years. Always a fan. Always enjoyed the sound and how well they play, especially the 6-string bass I use for a while at church. The necks are perfect for my short fingers. I've always had fun with it.

This Muckelroy Fretless is the absolute most awesome sounding, easiest to play in intonation and just beautiful looking fretless I've ever touched in my life....Period.

Dude! That was awesome! I noticed that there were things that appear to be frets on the fretboard. Are they just markers?
They draw lines where the frets should be. Very helpful 🙂
Hey Leo thanks Man. Those are lines that are put in the fingerboard on purpose as markers to give players better orientation on the fingerboard as to where your notes are. This lead to better intonation and tonal recognition. There are Lined and Unlined Fretless basses. Many players don't like use or like lines which obviously is a personal choice. But I attended a Gary Willis clinic years ago in Austin, and he was asked the question "why he had lines in his fretless basses"? As one of the top fretless players in the world, Its pretty obvious that he can play any lined or unlined fretless instrument, but his answer still resonates with me. Gary said, "Playing a fretless without lines is insane" LOL!!!!
