Why Jinjer’s Music Video for "Someone's Daughter" is a WORK OF ART
The colors are related to the theme of the album. Aurora was reading anatomy books and pondering why western philosophy decided that the heart was just an organ rather than the center of our soul and emotions. She read that doctors in the old days used to consider the color blue to be an indicator of illness while the color red was considered healthy. She is feeding them the infected apple, and saying "This is the last apple on Earth. Will you eat it?" I think there are a lot of references you could pull from the apple. It could signify the corruption of the world, or technology, Eve taking a bite of the apple, or it could symbolize a poisoned apple. Aurora is very outspoken about climate change and saving the planet. And she has used apples in other videos. I personally think it relates to Eve eating the apple. Eve gained knowledge when she bit the apple, and Aurora asks "will the virtual mind be stronger than mine?", most likely referring to AI.
This is wonderful and thank you for sharing these insights!
Running with the wolves if you haven’t already reacted to it
I liked your analysis verry much! Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love your reactions, they are very detailed and intelligent. Love this music video and look forward to seeing her next week in NYC. I would love to see your reaction to her collab with Jacob Collier that was recently released for GreenPeace. I would be interested in what your take of the challenges in filming this were. Thanks again. th-cam.com/video/4N-fqm2YLAU/w-d-xo.html
I marked it for a future reaction! Thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoy my videos :)
please do all her videos. thanks for this reaction.
She is fantastic ❤
Great reaction. My understanding is that Aurora always maintains control over the production of these videos. So she's not a filmmaker, but she is working with those making the videos, to get what she wants. These are all from the album "What Happened to the Heart", which is very themed, hence the constant references to blood, which the heart pumps around. You also see the silver casting of the heart, which is the album's motif. I think the apple is an allusion to tech companies, probably not just Apple. The starvation being alluded to, is how meaning is being lost from our lives, and we are striving after it. I have read, although I don't know if its correct, that waving hands, represent humanity trying to grasp for meaning in life, in the modern world. There is at least one reference to the Palestinian flag at 12:45 in your video, and possibly of the face paint of the dancer at 6:25. At Glastonbury, Auroa stopped her performance of Starvation, to make a speech about the children suffering in Gaza and other war zones, and to highlight the work of the charity War Child. This whole album, is making very strong points, that some may call political, but it is really humanitarian and compassion - she has a very strong message to the world. Aurora has said something about the colours red and blue, being prominent with her at the moment. But I'm not sure if this has any other significance, other than it being her preferences at that point in time.
Thanks so much for sharing this, very helpful! You can tell she is so intentional and thoughtful about what she does. Very powerful!
Thank you 🙏 ❤! In Auroas mind I think that blood represents life ( not like inn our time in the patriarchy hierarchy blood represents death). Auroras work ( music, lyrics, dance and videos) always makes us think and feel ❤❤❤. Best from Bergen,Norway
Thank you for sharing!
💙FTF. ❄️🤘
Love the song and the MV is amazing. Great reaction/analysis. thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love this vid and song. Thanks! 🎉
the album is called "what happened to the heart" the whole album is laced with references to blood in one form or another
The heart is the same as in many of her recent "visualizer" videos.
Amazing video, very fitting to this great song. She is very present not only in writing and producing her songs but also in every other aspect like video etc. BTW: blue color can be connected with IT/AI (as it is connected with this type of companies). Of course there are also other motives connected with starvation or blood as you said. Video is very artistic and also somewhat disturbing in a good way. This moon and slowdown/drop was great too :). Very cool reaction and comments :)! Ps. There are also a Palestinian flag painted on the hand (ending part) as she is also against war and people suffering (no matter from which side).
Great reaction🥰 What Tarkus said👍💙🦋 In press releases, Aurora said: "'Starvation' touches on the very heart of the album. The root of the problem the world is in. Our souls are starving, and therefore I think it's hard for people to truly connect with the world. Our food makes us sick. The news makes us worried, but passive. Our work makes us uninspired by life. We bully strangers on the internet. And we connect to other humans mostly through that very same medium. We can see people getting killed on our phones while we go on about our day. Something is seriously wrong."
Poppy is going to release a movie
would love to see you react to bloodmoney its in my opinion one of her best videos
sit/stay is also really nice and she direct it herself
Simply the best analysis of this video I've ever seen, and I've seen quite a lot. The only thing I noticed wich nobody refers is the golden toilet Trump has in his penthouse in NY.
So glad you enjoyed it!!
Very excited to see you get to this one! I love this video so much. It's such a great complement to the song, which is kind of an unusual song anyway. I love the way they go to slow motion when the song drops to that rave section. And then when the rave section picks up the beat in the second half, everything massively intensifies with the dancing and the cuts. She kind of performs it that way live too. I think you missed the one hand reaching out, near the end, painted like a Palestinian flag. I thought that was a very nice touch. It's the same director as "Your Blood" (and her other videos from her latest album), Kaveh Nabatian, but I have no idea about the timeline. There is also a choreography edit that is very cool. I would recommend you check that out too (without reaction) when you get a chance. Pretty sure that heart is actually chrome, but the lighting makes it look gold. It's taken from the cover of her "What Happened to the Heart?" album, and is frequently used in visualizers and photo shoots. It makes perfect sense that it would make an appearance here.
Thanks Tarkus!! Yes I need to take a look at the choreography edit, it sounds fantastic. I just love this song.
The titles on the other VHS tapes at the end are apparently Easter eggs of new song titles from the band. Enjoyed your reaction! 😎👍
Oh, I love that!! Foreshadowing :D
Love this video. It's SO WELL DONE. Great acting, great effects.
my fighting Anthem. Still is.
Such a great video for a great song. I’m so excited to see and hear what FTF does next.

Honestly, I think you should check out the Knocked Loose music video for Suffocate ft Poppy because that video is very creepy and cool, with a ton of interesting shots.

Manon, great content as always! Poppy has been on fire and I'm here for it! For fun video/film analysis, a few you may enjoy are (in order): Poppy X Knocked Loose doing "Suffocate", then "Spit" (Kittie cover, it's also fab), then "I Disagree", or "Concrete". Be well! 🤘
@@mquilez01 +1 on Spit.
Thank you! And thank you for the great suggestions!
Didn't know this band yet, so thank you Manon for introducing me to them. I love the crossover they do between their traditional music and heavy metal. It's really cool. Haven't been able to whatch the whole video because my motion sickness kicked in... But I totally agree they did an awesome job filming this. So nice to see the reaction from @karankatiyar4885, adding some nice details to the story. So glad the Noida Metro officials got the idea and gave permission! Reading the rest of their story: they might as well do every video themselves instead of paying a lot of money to those pros who couln't even come up with nice ideas. Anyway, these guys are in my playlist from now on 🙂
So glad you enjoyed it and that I could introduce you to Bloodywood! I love these guys!! So fun. What gave you motion sickness? Was it something about the video? I'm always curious when that happens for people. If you don't mind sharing.
@@manondereeper I've had this since I was little, being sick in a car / rollercoaster / airplane... It has to do with your vestibular organ getting confused about level and direction and stuff. In this case, with fast moving images or the spinning ones they used in this video it might get confused. Or if someone would walk around with a camera and the image is very shaky or they turn around too fast (some urbex videos have that effect). Doesn't mean the Bloodywood guys should have made their video in a different way... I just might have to watch it in small bits at a time ;-)
Ah, thank you for sharing, that makes sense!
BEST REACTION
The new Poppy album is fantastic.
🔥🔥
Hi Manon!!! You mentioned the 360* camera use for VR vs 2D. Made me wonder what kind of music videos have been done specifically to be watched in a VR headset. I'm sure someone's done it. Might be a fun thing to watch and hear your comments on if there's a good one out there to show off for us.
This is such a good question! I actually have no idea! I did just do a quick search and found this one by Avenged Sevenfold. I'm currently on the road but when I get back home next week I'll have to check it out a VR headset !th-cam.com/video/4-NHVWecj2U/w-d-xo.html
@@manondereeper I just watched it!! (on desktop, not VR. I've recently moved and haven't unpacked and set up the VR yet) It was all CGI animation rather than live camera IRL. So I did a short search of my own and found this one. It has some production value to it. Whether or not the production is comment worthy I leave to your expert eye. th-cam.com/video/rrOf88lq64c/w-d-xo.html
Just took another look, and I hadn't watched it yet so I didn't know it was CGI! Hmm. I was hoping I found something live action lol. But I am going to watch the one you shared! Love this Psycho video, really want to watch it in VR because you see multiple instances of her and I feel like the VR version will be very immersive! Much more so than dragging the screen around on my PC lol. Funnnnn. I wonder how many people are actively using VR headsets though.
Thank you for diving deep into the video! We worked tirelessly to get this one done the way we envisioned it. Since you noticed so many subtleties (especially what the camera movements and colour tones represent) within the video I'm gonna drop some fun facts here: 1. The shoot took place across four cities, not just Delhi. Getting a permit to shoot drone footage within Delhi is next to impossible 2. We weren't supposed to make this video ourselves. There was a team of professionals in place that were engaged to do everything (including conceptualizing) since we were racing against time to finish the album. However, they failed to come up with any solid ideas and quoted more than 3 times our budget a week before the shoot was designated to start. So everything you see was shot by my friend Kushagra Nautiyal, @flyingsid (the drone pilot) and me. Needless to say, there were many sleepless nights haha 3. We decided to give the same team of professionals another chance for the next video, but they've failed to deliver again. Guess we'll be doing the next one ourselves too 😂 4. Some people feel that the subway train is a set. It's a real subway train (we call it the Metro in India). You can rent an entire subway station along with the train for a video shoot in the Delhi Metro. This was, however. shot in the Noida Metro (a satellite city to New Delhi) since the Delhi Metro officials rejected our application. Quoting their email: "The Metal music's high-energy and vibe may not align with Delhi Metro's image of a smooth and reliable public transportation system. The loud and powerful sounds often associated with metals may be seen as disruptive to the calm and orderly environment that Delhi Metro strives to maintain for its commuters." 5. The Noida Metro officials on the other hand were absolute sweethearts (they're a younger batch of officers). Some of them were familiar with heavy music whiile others were fans of anime. What a cool bunch!
Hey Karan!!! Thanks for stopping by - I'm a big fan :D Thank you for sharing these tidbits. I know from your videos you put so much thought, effort and time into them. I'm sorry you've had such a bad experience with these professionals! That's really terrible. Can't believe - but at the same time I can - that Delhi metro used this argument to turn you away. I would love to hear more of your stories!
This is an epic video!!! Hats off to you and your team! I'm sure that those "professionals" would never have pulled off something this good!
I really liked this - I love the band and the analysis of the filmmaking techniques brought a new insight. Thanks!

Hey this is director/serial killer. I loved your break down on the video. This is my first official music video. I have shot all FTF other ones but this one I got to come up with story, costumes and locations. My wife is the editor and I did color. I made the fake props like the knife and the arm was a cam ops arm lol. You are the first to mention my Oma which I love. Thank you 🙏
th-cam.com/video/u_77calN9sQ/w-d-xo.html (mv prod. doc.) MV shokes us, to make us thinking about our interpersonal relations in a way suggested by lyrics of this song.
Thanks for reacting to one my favourite bands! They did a fantastic job on this video. The music is incredible as well, so heavy and hard. These kids are definitely going places, and we in the Cold Front are here to support them and enjoy the ride!
What’s shocking to me is as an Indigenous American…my father drew a picture. My father often did oil paintings of our elders and the Elder standing on the hill looks like a friend of his who was an elder of an adjacent Tribe looks ALMOST identical to him. My cousin just gave it to me a few days ago. Wow, I don’t put much stock in the BERING STRAIT Theory at all. My grandmother told me it was not accurate. Just a note … MONGOLIAN people are known for their horse culture. This is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. I believe this is a MONGOLIAN HISTORICAL EVENT. Thank you for reviewing this, it’s EPIC. I recommend you look at LAY ZHANG’s music video “LIT”.
I did 23 and me and came out 93% Native American and I am from Mongolia lol
Its not a one shot, not even a one shot with 3 cameras. It was maybe the 4 takes of 3 cameras, because you can see a few edit cuts from different takes, yes just like Birdman, you get all the film you can get and then they tried to make it all seem like a one take 3 cameras. And i dont like it when people try to make it a one take even though the result is already hard enough to make it look like it came out. Its almost enraging, like they are contaminating the art in fact. it was a great video, people dont need to make it such a legendary one, when it may as well be, but thats up to time and culture, regardless if how many cameras and takes there were. Also, yeah, the mic is not live, because not only he turns around and he sounds the same as when he is right up to the mic, but the guitar band strokes and gets on the mic, and you never hear it ruffling or messing with it. so not even there is a one music take, thats taken somewhere else entirely. So all of that kills how great the song really is in the end.
Bloodywood rules!!! If you like this you should definitely check out the band Imminence. Violincore to the bone and their videos is something I think you would really like. Often filmed in a serie of songs blending in after each one, on to the next. And they're also beautiful to watch. Also check out Chris Kläffords official video "Cold at the altar" and explain to me how the F they filmed this video in what seams to be a one shot video. Be safe
FtF got asked in a Discord post "how hard was it to clean all the gear after all the gore?" The answer: "It was a process." I bet. I think their other OMVs are all performance vids, but they are unique. If memory serves, they're all from they're new "Thrones" EP, six vids shot in a cold barn in one day, inside temp around -7º C. One can see Quinn's breath in several. You might find it interesting to see what they did, just for grins.
All of their lyrics have meaning. This one is about how people use positions of power to manipulate and exploit others, and being horror fanatics, they used this as a vehicle to highlight this.
They did an amazing job on the video, very creepy and their acting was really great. Aria however only hung around for seven hours chilling 🤣🤣🤣 Kidding, Aria was incredible, the patience and stamina to be hung from the ceiling for 7 hours shows true dedication. I think Quinn, Aria and Jonah will bring us even more great music in the future.
Manon, thanks for coming by to check this video out. I think most of us in the Cold Front figured you would enjoy it. A lot of talent here, both musically and visually. I am really looking forward to see where they go from here.
I’m a bit late to the Charlotte Wessels party, but her latest album is 🔥🤘🥰. Watching your reactions and they are really good. 🙏 Her album is in my top 3 most listened albums in the car right now. 👍
Great reaction! I was pretty sure you'd like this, and was looking forward to your insights. They're releasing short bts vids on their patreon, don't know if those are on yt yet. I'm ok with the saw lighting, but a little more on it wouldn't hurt. The throat mic did need more emphasis; they commented that they had to keep adding makeup to it to keep it in place. One of the things I found cool is they used local talent for this. Thanks for supporting this great band!
They are wonderful and I love their commitment! :D
