    Look into adding in perlite or vermiculite. Drainage is one of perlite’s specialties which always helps in a raised bed it will also create air pockets that can help with root development. Conversely vermiculite acts like a constant watering can for your plants because its moisture retention properties which can be helpful for raised beds. I'd go with perlite first since your beds look like they're retaining plenty of water. Hope this helps!

    Too much compost does not hurt plants. Too much manure can hurt and burn plants. Manure is not compost. If it's really overly stinky it's anaerobic not aerobic. All the mushrooms are GREAT, they are building your soil food web, for next year. Dig out some of the plants, dig out some of the soil, add a potting mix like black gold organic and water really well. Does it drain? It needs to drain well to get the strong amonia from the manure out. If you put manure and grass in there to fill it up it's a hot compost pile that plants cannot live in until it cools down. THE SOIL FOOD WEB ON YOU TUBE WILL EXPLAN how to make the best biological living compost. I will say it again. You DID NOT PUT TOI MUCH COMPOST. YOU PUT TOO MUCH MANURE. YOU BUILT IT LIKE A HOT COMPOST PILE AND PLANTS CANT GROW IN IT UNTIL AFTER IT COOLS DOWN. You dont need to test. You just have way too much manure. Water water water and the add in potting soil to help dilute the manure.

    • @MirkwoodHomestead
      @MirkwoodHomestead 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes the compost was a mixture of compost and manure so that makes sense!

    The compost and manure will not grow plants well. If feasible, I would dig up the plants, remove a bit of the bagged manure, and add some peat based soil mix. I make a good mix using 3cf peat bales, adding perlite and vermiculite, which I bought in bulk, and then add in 1/3 compost and heavily dose it up with a chicken manure based fertilizer, like Espoma.

      We recently hatched geese again and had a good hatch rate, after the first week and a half we would open and mist them once a day. We didn't have much of an issue keeping them humid so we didn't keep any cloth in it this time however a wash cloth would work just as well as a sponge

    You are candling them upside down.(poor birds) You should light it from the top with the pointy end down. The air bubble goes on top. You are giving that poor bird virago. Unlike humans, who evidently are not alive until AFTER we are born, birds can hear and feel and taste chirp before even hatching. Anytime anyone messes up an incubation, they basically killed the birds in the most horrific way possible. Imagine being fully alive, ready to take in your first breath, and your air pocket has fluid in it, and you drown. "Welp, this one didn't hatch" they say. "He must not have been strong enough" they cry. All while handling eggs improperly. I think I've seen enough...

    I love Paul Robeson tomatoes, but I grow less of them than other varieties because they’re the first to get blight or fusarium wilt or nematode damage or sun scald… or some mysterious problem of the year. My favorite from last year was Prairie fire. They were semi-determinate which is usually a minus for me, but they fruited before the others and it worked out well. They are pretty meaty and the sweetest variety I’ve grown so far.

    White Tomesol has twice been THE best tomato I've had in my life. Nothing bland about it. Rich, highly Balanced, etc. I never understand these poor reviews I see 'sometimes' about it. I will always grow it. Keep trying. They don't bring tears to your eyes every time and sometimes not even every year... but mostly there's one that will. And it's worth all of it. Ananas Noir is not called Pineapple. Pineapple is a totally different tomato. Ananas is sometimes called Black Pineapple It's fantastic.
