How to Choose The Right Otome Game for You!
Back when I was still discovering and playing tons of otome games, I often found that some popular ones didn’t live up to my expectations. Even though they were super hyped and loved by many, I just felt like they were kinda okay and not as amazing as I imagined 🤔 That hype gave me high expectations, only for them to be crushed immediately😂 Especially with the localized games, this was one of the reasons I decided to learn Japanese, so I could dive into more unlocalized otome games. I mean, I couldn’t wait that long!
After playing and analyzing more games, I even tried some that weren’t as popular in the West (and let me tell you, I got convinced). And honestly? I thought they were way better than the popular ones! At first, I thought I was weird for having such a different taste🤣 But nope, it’s just personal preference. Now, after all that research and experience, I’ve figured out the key aspects to help you find the perfect otome game for you!

@@------........................ hell yeah
This was a great video! But I would suggest maybe adding subs since your audio quality isn't the best, and i had trouble making out some words esp when it came to names 😅 no hate just a suggestion. loved your vid ~
@@arpiabu-alrub7484 wohoo thank u for ur feedback😆, yeah i figure that will happened😭 especially when it comes to japanese names! Okay will definitely make it in my next video!!
I definitely do agree that just because a game is popular or unpopular doesn't mean it will be to your taste or not. Steam Prison is an example of a Otome game that wasn't meant for me due to it being plot and politics of the game's world. I being more a romance enjoyed this wasn't for me. Well, Dairoku, Meiji Tokyo Renka, and Bakumatsu Renka. Games I don't see a lot of people talk about ss much or as popular I have been enjoying. Because in some cases they have quicker common routes like in Meiji Tokyo Renka allowing me to more easily enjoy the romance the story has. Bakumatsu Renka having a different set up compared to other games in that you have free time events giving it a kind of gameplay type of feel which I like {I really enjoy Angelique Retour and TMGS games} and Dairoku had characters I enjoyed. I feel like researching games before getting them can be important instead of just buying them. Since I didn't do that in some cases and that kind of lead to lackluster game experiences. I haven't gotten Winter's Wish since I heard mixed things about it. I may look into it more.
@@Snowspark811 true😭 the perfect otome game is the one that resonates with you✨ If you're into romance focused, idk if you'd like winters wish but its more on slow burn romance and i admit the story is pretty heavy. Still, you can definitely feel their emotional bond grow and they balance comedy, romance, and their story well. think u also need to be a fan of fantasy to truly enjoy it, the premise and how the boys fall in love with the mc are interesting tho🤭
I've never dropped any otome games. Bit I have been tempted because I had s rough time forcing myself through it because I spent so much on it. This game was Steam Prison. I really hated how politic heavy the game is and the basically characters die that are important to mc but are forgotten about and the mc's nativity bothered me. I know, Steam Prison is popular but I liked the guys separate from the mc and some cases liked the dynamics better than with the mc. So any time it was her and the guy I wasn't having an enjoyable time. I forced myself through that. If I had gotten it cheaper I may have dropped it. I thought Varriable Barricade had some fun moments but my god the "true ending" breaks game Canon making no sense {ruining the game for me a lot} and Ichiya's route oof. As for Birushana, it wasn't my favorite. I do think it could been better in some ways.
@@Snowspark811 woww thank u for sharing, i havent played steam prison but based on the premise, i know that it will not be the kind of game that i liked😭 ive heard bad things about ichiya's route and the truth route, is it that bad?🥲 Birushana could have been better! Agree!
Birushana was fair! It had 2 okay routes the others were meh

Kaka namatin core 2000 brp lama? Perhari nya berapa kartu kak? Terus untuk bunpou nya make buku apa , sorry nanya banyak mau speedrun jg soalnya wkkwkwk
Maaf gak bs bnyak bntu kl soal buku yaa🤧
1:08:45 He is definitely my type 🤭
Hohoho rightttt?!😳
yeah where's the N3 proof?
As a previous comment mentioned, this title is just clickbait. I think it would be better to let more people know how difficult the language is study rather than acting like you(anyone) can speed run to N3 in 4 months. For someone starting from "Zero" immersing 30 mins a day with a visual novel is not gonna help them without the n5 level of grammar needed to understand sentence structure. The average Japanese learner is n5 lvl proficient in a little over 400 hours, regardless of how they study. So unless someone puts in 10-12 hours a day FOR WEEKS, you're simply not going to be at n3 lvl in 4 months. this language is tough, good luck with your studies! I hope you keep getting better.
@@GamingPhenomenon Hi! I think the main reason I was able to reach around N3 level in 4 months was because back then, I immersed myself mostly in upper-intermediate visual novels, as I mentioned in the video. Ofc cause im starting from zero, I had to learn hiragana, katakana, and some basic kanji before diving into immersion. You're right, at first, I didn’t understand much of the sentence structure, but as I kept going, I began to understand it better and better. Don't know how but i think thats just human mind works i guess? Hahaha😭 and I also watched some short grammar videos from Genki, which definitely helped! From my experience, progress depends a lot on the level of Japanese we choose for our learning materials. And yes, you’re right, I didn’t expect to understand N3 conversations in 4 months, I thought it would take yearsss. It’s not clickbait though! 🥲 Still, this is just my experience, and it might be different for others. Some people might need a few months, while others might need years. Right now, after a year, I’m still around N3 tho and slowly working toward N2 cause im reading more beginner friendly visual novels now. 😂 So yeah, it’s definitely not easy either! Thank you for your feedback, and have a great day!

I heard this game is popular and well regarded in Japan amongst otome fans, and it already had a sequel announced this year. I will def put this game on my list.
yes!! im so happy they gave us a sequel😭you should definitely go and try this!
I keep wanting to try Winter's Wish, but I have a HUGE backlog of games and I am of limited means. Hopefully it'll go on sale for the Switch around Christmas (which would be perfect considering the title lol).
@@Zodia195 yess! It would be the perfect time to get it! Yess we really need to finish our backlog first🤧 what otome/games u planned to finished first?
@@HeartFluffXO Well I am of limited means, so when when I say backlog, I also mean games I've yet to get too lol. I recently find myself really gravitating towards Indie Otome games though since I can afford them. Now as far as Otome games I haven't finished, I still haven't finished Cupid Parasite. I got it this year, but then other games pulled my attention away gosh darn it lol. As far as Indie Otomes, most only have demos (and several have upcoming kickstarters), but this is my list of games I want to play- Touchstarved (horror romance, I normally can't handle horror, but mystery is attached and the art is gorgeous, the men make me drool), Our Life: Now and Forever (100% wholesome), Shattered Souls, Threads of You: Beyond the Bay, and Keyframes. As far as games out that I want, well, one I technically have, but I can't play it on my PC, so I want to get the Switch version, My Time at Sandrock (farm sim). I also want the latest Zelda game- Echoes of Wisdom (Zelda fan here). 1 game I want that's in early access is another farm sim (creator wanted to create a farm sim that also has inspirations from Pokemon). It's called Ova Magica. And let's not even begin to consider the fact that Nintendo's next console is on the way haha. And all of this has to compete with other factors in my life, where I still put needs over wants (and games are still wants at the end of the day). Perfect example is I have to pay for a dental procedure coming up. It's those real life moments I have to be ready for lol. But yeah very long list lol.
@@Zodia195 wow what a long list hahaha, but I get it since I feel the same way, so many good games to dive into (otome games, farmsim, and other games, too many!) but so little time and also yes! we still have to put our needs first! exactly my situation now🥲
I will try this

By the way, I initially thought Kouyou was a tsundere, but it turns out he's not, haha! Also, I forgot to mention in the video that since it's a story between a ghost and a human, the ending can feel predictable as you progress through the mid-game. The game's Japanese level is still suitable for beginners because it mostly uses everyday conversation. So, if you're up for a challenge, give it a try in Japanese!
"after i had given up" so not from zero nothing wrong with self-assessing but u cant proclaim urself to be n# without proof
@@UnimportantAcc Hello! The reason I said "from zero" is because the last time I learned Japanese was 8-9 years ago. At that time, yes, I had already memorized hiragana, katakana, and some small vocabulary. However, I gave up because I thought kanji was too difficult to learn. I didn't touch Japanese again until October 28, 2023, when I decided to give it another try. By that point, I had forgotten almost everything. Maybe I remembered a couple of hiragana (あ and お) and some basic phrases like 'わたし,' 'ごめんなさい,' and 'ありがとう,' but I had to start from scratch. That's why, in my video, the tips I shared were from the very beginning: relearning hiragana and katakana, trying to memorize kanji for the first time, reviewing flashcards, immersing myself in Japanese and doing it consistently every single day. That's something I had never done before. After 4 months of hard work, I saw a lot of progress! Now I can play my visual novels and understand much more of the dialogue and text without needing a dictionary as often. I took a test and found out I'm at an N3 level. I watched N3-level videos on TH-cam and understood most of the conversations. Since my main goal is to only understand my Japanese visual novels, I’m happy with how far I've come. I'm sorry I didn’t provide proof in the video, the main reason I made it was simply to share my experience and encourage others not to lose hope, as I’ve been there myself. I shared the exact steps that helped me in hopes they can help others understand Japanese, especially passively🤗 This video might not be for everyone, but thank you for your feedback! 🥰
@@HeartFluffXO it's fine to say 'around N3' by taking N3 tests online - but you can't claim that level for certain unless you pass the real test Either way achieving so much in so little time is very impressive

I've known about otome games since the late 2000s, but I still appreciate and enjoy videos like this. Especially since there's a lot of new otome fans, and now we have so many otome games that it's hard to choose sometimes. Voltage Inc. games are great for beginners, especially since they are not super plot heavy and focus more on romance and cute tropes. Shinobi Koi is a good one so far since it's not plot heavy either, but with Google Lens, you can play this using your phone to translate the dialogue. I personally recommend Sympathy Kiss and Cupid Parasite.
Yesss back then we can count with our fingers the amount of otome games (that gets localised or has an english patch)🤧 im happy that now many of them get localised and yeah! Sympathy kiss is also suitable for beginners!
Good job, but please work on your pronunciation for おとめ ❤
@@phen-themoogle7651 hahaha wokayyy had to stick with the japanese pronunciation right?😂 i just realised that i didnt said the correct word! Thanks for the feedback🥰
i've been dying for more historical games after finishing hakuoki, thank u sm !!
@@meowomeowmeow aaa im happy you find the one that you want😭 hope u like it as much as I do!
I'm almost always around~
@@serayuya hahaha u always accompany me when you can🤧
I hope to catch one of your streams, but the time zone difference makes it difficult 😅. I love the artwork in this game, but the mini game looks pretty tough. On another note, the theme of training the MC's heart reminds me of the otome game Shinobi Koi Utsutsu. 😂
@@patrice6139 ah it's okay! You can always watch the VOD's🥰 yes the artwork is very pretty, i love it! The mini games is actually not that hard but this is the first time I had die in this game so yeah it's pretty tough😭 always increase the HB limit, it's a must! Aaa shinobi koi utsutsu yeahhh, it's pretty similar to that game! Have u played it? I like Daisuke a lotttt
I've completed the prologue and I'm slowly working my way through Kamakiyo's route using Google Lens and my rudimentary knowledge of Japanese. I just purchased Brother's Conflict for the switch, so the unlocalized collection continues to pile up. 😅
@@patrice6139 aaa the tsundere he's so cute when he flustered🙈. I havent played brothers conflict but I've seen that it suits japanese beginners
@HeartFluffXO He's adorable when he blushes! Oh, and I heard that too! I've watched kaylalovely on TH-cam play a few routes of Brother's Conflict and she's translated Tsubaki's route, so I didn't have to.
@@patrice6139 aaaa i also watch her channel too! Thats why it somehow intrigues me to try brother's conflict! I love her vibe💖
I know this is clickbait but I'm here for it😂
@@batgirlp5561 hahaha it is not😂 thats why im also suprised i made such a huge progress in 4 months, it's my personal experience so it might be different for others🤗
they seem such interesting recommendations! Thank you ❤
@@jessden8273 aaa im happy you discovered some new games to try🙈
Cool games! I also recommend Trade Tales
@@AngelLynG oh my! I've heard of it but I didnt realise it would be that good😳 it had so much depth on it and I think it suits my taste, thank u for ur recommendation🥰
Omg I'm so interested in most of the games you mentioned here. You have very good taste in otome games!! Especially Winter's Wish.. but unfortunately that's for next time 😭😭😭
@@serayuya go get it girllll!!🏃♀️
Only Otome i dropped was Cupid Parasite, I don't understand the hype the game was horrible imo. From the games you mentioned i played Birushana and Variable barricade. In Birushana they did Noritsune dirty, poor guy didn't even get a kiss CG. I did like the game though, but i skipped the repeating battles. VB was 50/50, i loved Taiga and Nayuta, but Shion was boring and I hated Ichiya. The final route was such a mess, too, made me despise a character I initially liked
yes I also didnt understand that huhu. I have high expectations of that game and it didnt quite live up to my expectations. I only like Ryuki love story and I haven't finished Alan's route and the secret route so we will see about that. Btw did you mean Noritsune the pink haired guy? Yeah the battles in birushana is too repetitive:')
@@HeartFluffXO ah yeah, got the name wrong 😅
I got variable barricade but I barely pick it up I’m still gonna play it since I can’t return it 🥲
yes ofc you should! maybe you'll like it and I hope it suits your taste especially if you like romcom🥰
