Hi, I am researching and developing solar powered operating computers. This channel is called Glacial Pace because some tests may be months/years between resuming a new test. Software and hardware tests, plus random divertimento videos.
Generic Edison LED (Dimmable) 4W
www.amazon.com/dp/B0B2DS8CSM These are a dimmable version of the Edison LED bulbs, but an off-brand. Purchased for $8.99 for an 8 pack when 50% off. The "barely on" doesn't flicker, unlike some other non-dimmable, or faultily-designed, or incompatible dimmable bulbs. Get 2700K, you won't regret it. Only buy 5000K or higher if you need to simulate outdoor life for some reason.

Good sir
You could say something during the video, explaining what you did...
I included a tutorial in the description that I followed. I wasn't able to describe everything because it was a trial and error with the partition sequence and resizing. I used a 1GB microSD card, so I was more concerned with resizing each partition, and the one of original partitions was not large enough. So I don't really know how I got it to work, I just used a combination of the instructions, and not all of the instructions were needed. Ideally the root directory is 900MB but I am not sure I even got that right. It seems I only was only able to resize 140-220MB according to the video.

Tiny Core is pretty useless nowadays. The repository is outdated, most applications are abandoned, almost nobody ports them for this distro.
it's still very fast for running a few apps. It's also technically not a distro, according to their page: distro.ibiblio.org/tinycorelinux/downloads.html

@@pixel_rez I don't know if 3Dmark supports DirectX12's latest features in Windows 7, or AMD at least. UL has limited support outside of Windows 10/11. Have you tried Vulkan settings? These options are only in the Advanced Edition, rather than the demo version. Plus it might only be selecting integrated video if you have that too.
At 3:10 the message points out that SSL support isn't compiled into Dillo, which is why it can't load any HTTPS sites, practically ubiquitous nowadays. Impressive tiny build though. Pretty amazing seeing each those programs open in the blink of an eye. Obviously it's really barebones and missing drivers for wifi etc, but it still makes you wonder about the direction software has taken in the past 15-20 years.
dillo.org/FAQ.html#q12 yes, there is a way to enable SSL in an alpha build-more instructions on the home page, but I don't know if it has been updated since 2015.
Everything could be a lot less bloated, but it wouldn’t serve the interests of many
@@olympian3 it would absolutely serve the needs of many. Nobody benefits from a _needlessly_ slow program that eats memory. We accept it because there are usually tradeoffs that are worthwhile, like speed of development, memory safety, accessibility and localisation support etc. But all other things being equal, a "thinner" program is easier to maintain, more performant and less expensive to run.
I have a EEE PC with the atom 450. Has a mechanical hard drive. Thinking about swapping it for a SSD. It has 2 gbs of ram. Kinda want to the perfect combo to load firefox and maybe even youtube in a almost modern speed.
The SSD would be an improvement- even a $20 one from Target or Amazon. Firefox will probably not run youtube very well, but a few months ago I got youtube streams to run smoothly using GTK+ Pipe Viewer: th-cam.com/video/jMUeePXx8Ek/w-d-xo.html Though I read YT is now blocking streams to apps (potentially desktop apps like GTK+ too): www.theregister.com/2024/04/16/youtube_ad_blocking/ It only has MPEG-2 decoding, but works best with offline media (or browserless stream). Test results: github.com/hatonthecat/linux_distro_tests#exegnulinux-devuan-gnulinux-with-trinity-desktop
Is it in slow motion or is that the GPU doing that.
it's the GPU. It seems that the texture rendering is set too high. lowering the resolution/graphics sometimes helps, but it might be one of the anti-aliasing or upscaling, even though I tried to set it at the lowest. A similar effect happened in Street Fighter 6
Actually this was a very interesting video for me. There seems to be not so much information about that topic. I would like to know if the USB issue has changed since then.
Hi Dirk, thanks for your comment. The link in the description seems to be a better resource, but I've heard from others that using Microsoft device drivers might have this issue more. So Linux hardware/favored USB devices would probably not have this problem as often, at least on a Linux geared arm board.
Try Atomic PuppEEE, I used to use it on my Asus 1011 EEE netbook back in 2011-14. Maxed the RAM to 2gb with 2gb of swap on an 250gb SSD drive. Ran great.
Thanks!
what os is best perfect and fast for raspberry pi zero ?
for desktop? I would try out the standard OS www.raspberrypi.com/software/operating-systems/ since it has the most support. Are there particular apps you use? It may be better to configure it for a single app instead of a larger distro. While I got DietPi to work, it probably requires a little more setup, depending on experience. The desktop version with 894MB fits on 8GB. The one with "Recommended Software" is a 2.7GB download and requires at least an 11GB on the SD (i.e 16GB) Also, if you have a USB to Ethernet adapter, RISC OS supports it -this video compares Rpi OS bootup to Diet Pi and Risc OS Direct: 2+minutes, to 1 minute 20 seconds, to 35 seconds: th-cam.com/video/fpErKjnCY-8/w-d-xo.html at the 19:00 mark it starts I've also been able to load Slackware with CLI- if you type "setup" once it (without a desktop) docs.slackware.com/howtos:hardware:arm:raspberrypi (has a different set of window managers than this link, but if you can figure out how to set a partition and install it, It loads quite quickly! My live usb only needs a 1GB microSD, but I do not know if it downloads the desktop from the web or if it is on the image. I was hoping to preinstall it, which is why I didn't bother to plug in another microSD (i am not sure there is enough space to make two partititions on the one with the live usb) sarpi.penthux.net/index.php?p=finalsteps

Yes :) I am too inexperienced to install any apps but I have another video where I run it: th-cam.com/video/OFiQRntSAf4/w-d-xo.html My wish is that someone could make a more user friendly live CD with some apps so that it could run blazingly fast for the Raspberry Pi Zero- they have a distro for it called PiCore but I haven't gotten past the bootloader www.tinycorelinux.net/ports.html (Tiny Core doesn't consider itself a distro, but that's fine)
