A Knitter's Guide to Flattering Hats: 5 Options
In this case, I am talking about the challenge of knitted hats for someone like me with a long oval face. Knitted hats generally lack the wide brims I prefer in my hat options, so what kinds of hats CAN a knitter knit for such a head?
Hats shown in order (all patterns are on Ravelry):
1. Eddy Hat
2. Urgent Hat
3. No Pattern Brioche Brimmed Toque
4. Afghan Cap by Teva Durham
5. Annisquam Beret

Fixing a small hole in a store -bought sweater
มุมมอง 429ปีที่แล้ว
A real time repair to a finer gauge sweater with a snagged hole in the sleeve. I used a latch hook from a knitting machine to catch up the stitches that were developing runs above and below the hole, then threaded a darning needle and replaced the three missing stitches in the affected row. The yarn is a discontinued kidsilk mohair that I had in my yarn stash. If you only have a small crochet h...

    This is so great! I'm knitting a sweater for my husband that has a section of intarsia motifs and I'm relieved that these 40 odd rows doesn't make it so i have to knit the whole thing flat! I feel my ordinary stranded color work come put so much nicer in the round 😁 really well explained!

    Why do you knit in the back loop of stitch?

    • @farwellclay
      @farwellclay 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I knit in the combination style, Dori, so my knit stitch sits in a way the requires me to knit the back leg so it won't twist.

    Thank you so much for this video! I’m knitting the Weasley Sweater and I wanted to do it in the round, but was struggling to figure out how to knit the letter using Intarsia method (vs. duplicate stitch). This solves that issue! :) BTW, I have no trouble hearing you. Audio is just fine for me.

    ditto to all, love magic loop. only learned circular this year after my whole life using straight needles. without videos id never have managed. yours is great. :) wish i hadn't given away an original set of needles but they were plastic tips interchangeable and i didn't like how they felt, i didn't realize i'd need two sets for some things. i do love my interchangeable needles i bought, happily though, thanks again.

    hi there thanks for sharing video. been knitting for years and intarsia also, but never in the round, never done any circular knitting yet as its always intimidated me but its something im about to spread my wings into. just a bit confused here though as i thought for in the round you just continously knit, Is intarsia knit in the round done different thenn as you purled also, sorry if it sounds a little silly but i am just slightly confused . so with intarsia knitting you knit one side then purl then next? thank you in advance for any help tips or techniques you can offer me, and your voice is lovely btw xx

    • @farwellclay
      @farwellclay 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Soo, I'm not sure I understand your question, but what I think you are asking is that in the video, you work both the right side and the wrong side of the fabric as if it were still a flat piece, but the yarn over join creates the illusion of "in the round" but also allows you to insert an intarsia design in the middle of something like a sock or a mitten without a seam to sew later. Email me directly if you have a further question.

    I know there is no one correct way to knit. I'm very interested in the continental style you used in the video. My grandmother taught me this way and it works well for stocking knit, but how do you do a rib stitch without your stitches getting twisted?

    • @farwellclay
      @farwellclay 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because my default purl method make a stitch that sits with the back leg forward on the needle, I knit the stitch from right to left, and it doesn't come off the needle twisted. I'm used to it being this way so I don't even think of it. I do use a Norwegian style purl for lace knitting generally, but I prefer the Combination purl for everyday work.
