Motorcycle show in Halmstad February 3, 2023. Aprilia Tuareg 660 , Premiere for the BMW M 1000 R #BMWM1000r a bad a..s..s Naked bike with 210hp, Yamaha tenere 700 A few classic sports bikes like Honda, a couple of newer BMW R1250GS trophy, a lot of chrome on Harley Davidssons, a bunch of Mopeds and a whole lot more.. Unfortunately Very few KTM and Ducati,, And a stunt show in the end.

The day has come to an end and on the way home i share some initial thoughts of the bikes tested.. KTM 1290 super adventure S and R. Triumph Tiger Gt Pro and Rally pro.. Yamaha Tenere 700 Aprilia 660 Tuareg.

I am going to Stora Holm for a test ride of seven different bikes but turnes out to be only six.. Triumph tiger 1200 rally pro and GT Pro. KTM 1290 SAS and SAR. #Aprilia660Touareg and Yamaha T7.. (Ducati Desert X was not there).. This first episode is the way there and some thoughts and regular babbling when it comes to me... :)

      Jag skulle rekommendera dom om priset fortfarande är vettigt, hade gått upp en hel del sist jag såg men det var ganska länge sedan.. Jag har sålt grejerna då jag helt enkelt inte kör offroad med packning i nån vidare utsträckning längre utan kör bara längre resor på asfalt numer och då har jag hårda väskor... Men dom håller riktigt bra kvalitet och antar att dom fortfarande är betydligt billigare är tex Mosko moto...

      I use Kurviger when planning routes or tracks but there are also some Gravel roads though Sweden called Trans Sweden Trail and there is finnished GPX files to just put on the NAV VI..

    Hey buddy. Just stumbled on your trip (very entertaining). I noticed that you have short levers on your bike. What are those levers and in relation to the clutch, how did you manage without damaging the gear assist micro-switches? Thanks in advance. - Bruce

      They are from Touratech but they were on the bike when i bought it so don't know about the micro-switches.

    Nowadays this discussion is almost over, with the new GS coming up to life. But personality or character is all times different. These two different all a round bikes have their own fans. On reliability KTM is not a match for BMW no matter what. I say this, after owning both. KTM 1290 SAS or SAR, are real alternatives to a GS or a GSA? Some owners answer affirmatively and others don’t. I say yes, if you don’t mind the extra troubles of owning a KTM . It will depend on the pleasure you take for the ride you receive. And if you’re handy to take care on your own of some issues and works. The regular biker that just enjoy riding and have no advanced skills about how to take care properly of a big bike, the one that puts all the bike needs on the capable hands of bike mechanics, for that profile of biker, the BMW probably returns more happy days for your money than KTM bikes. But if you know and enjoy to fix things on your bike, in that case I think that KTM is the brand for you. That sensation of the raw (refrained by electronics but still…) power of the big V-Twin with 170 HP ; that buttered quick shifter…There are many good reasons to choose the KTM big trail bikes. I value diversity, so there are different choices in the Market for different priorities, different feels about the way to fulfill our needs and dreams. And the more competition we have in the Market, better are the opportunities for the customers and consumers, so my conclusion is that, both brands are important because both can serve their purpose to a wide number of different costumers. In the end what matters is that we get identified and satisfied with our choices according to our goals and possibilities. Take care and be well. Ride alert all times making that every ride counts✌️✌️

    Hello. Great video. What are your opinion about the bags after 1 year?? Do you recommend them? When riding can you feel that they are lighter than riding with hard cases?

      To be honest i have only used them once since i bought them. I bought them to do more offroad riding with sleep overs in the tent but i have'nt been out more than one time. Hope to get out more this year though... Can't say i feel the bags to be lighter than hard cases but then again i can't say i feel the weight much from the hard cases either.. The GS is a very sturdy bike to begin with but they are lighter so with smaller bikes i guess you can feel it a little bit... From the little i have used them i can for sure recommend them if you are in the market for a soft luggage system like this..

    nice video, a lot of important things. i have one question,,,,because i am thinking of getting adventure 80 or voyager 60 (narrower central plate) from red mamut.... Can you mount back case(top case) and used it (open it) when you have mounted that adventure 80 in the same time?

      I guess it depends on what top case you have but I dont think the original BMW vario bag can be used since the "holster" of the soft bags cover alot of the Base plate..

    Tjena! Jag har stora problem att köra hoj för jag måste släppa handtaget och "skaka liv" i händerna eller hålla armarna neråt lite för att få bort det men det kommer tillbaka väldigt snart igen, och så håller jag på. Jag får också ofta ont i tummen och det är en intensiv molande värk och den känns som att den har förlorat cirkulationen. Jag upplever det också ofta när jag sitter med t.ex min ipad i handen. Tror du det skulle kunna vara carpaltunnelsyndrom?

      Jag minns inte riktigt men Rally pro är nog ganska lik KTM 1290 R men med lite mindre effekt och lite bättre komfort. Hade jag själv valt mellan dessa två hade jag nog lutat åt Triumph men det är för att jag kör mer Touring och längre resor än vad jag kör offroad.. Det trista svaret är nog det bästa är att prova själv. Man upplever saker så olika.

      Ja det var ganska ok. Saknar lite olika märken som Ducati, och fler Triumph och även Yamaha men detta är väl mer lite handlare och klubbar som ställer ut.. Normalt kör jag hoj året runt men nu har jag opererat händerna så har inte blivit nån körning och då är man inte så svårflörtad när det gäller motorcyklar.. 🙃

    KTM plenty of reliability issues. No extended warranty in the UK. KTM depreciation is a killer. It’s the GS all the way!

      Du verkar vara Svensk så jag svara på svenska. :) Jag har bara hunnit prova denna packutrustning en gång och en natt med tält men jag packade som att jag skulle vara iväg en vecka för att testa inför förra sommarens planerade resa norrut (som aldrig blev av). Tält och matlagningsutrustning, kläder, handduk en del mat mm mm.. Är inte så bra på Pros and cons men försöker skriva lite. Pros: Kvaliten känns riktigt bra och kan nog säga att det är minst samma kvalitet som Mosko moto eller andra likadana system även om jag aldrig kännt på det i verkligheten. Billigare än ex Mosko.. Väskorna är vattentäta och där är bra möjligheter att fästa andra saker på dom.. Hängde på flaskväskorna och Första hjälpen kittet också när jag var iväg. Det är ju samma system som konkurenterna med drybags i "hölster" och en drybag på toppen. Jag tycker denna lösning är väldigt bra då man kan sätta den på nästan vilken hoj som helst o spänna fast det och inget som går sönder om man skulle köra omkull.. Tyvärr får jag nog inse att jag inte kör offroad så mycket som jag vill så eventuellt kommer jag sälja dessa och bara ha mina aluväskor på långresor Söderut istället.... Cons: Skulle väl vara att denna typ av väskor inte är så stöldsäkra. Sen är den lite dum om man har en GS och har skjutshandtagen på då dom bygger upp en del men det är egentligen inget problem även om det blivit lite mer "slimmat" mot sadeln om man inte har dom på. Detta blir nog samma även med likvärdiga väskor. Jag satte på en annan pakethållare som gjorde att det blev bättre..

    Man, of course your BMW is the one and only.... You'd better take the train because you don't have to torture the engine with 60 km/h in 6 gear - and you can find out what makes the two bikes different - that the GS has torque undisputed - but in the high rev range the Super adventure is the bike that really has endless propulsion - seen 15 videos about the 1290R - and the testers are really enthusiastic - but nobody talks like you! I usually keep my opinions to myself and I can accept other opinions and perspectives too! When a "GS fanboy" presents himself as an expert - and his affection for his own motorcycle causes the quality of the KTM super adventure 1290 R to be presented in a more than bad light, then this behavior is also called "malignant narcissism"! To exalt yourself by belittling other people and their achievements!! Bad habit and very transparent 😳

      presents himself as an expert? Gs-fanboy? You are a funny guy.. 😂 You are right that you don't have to "torture" a bike with 60km/h but only one of the two has problems with it.. Still looking for a replacement for the GS though so if you have any tips feel free to say it.. So far the Multistrada V4s is the best opponent by VERY thirsty... still might be worth it.. 👍

      Jag har bara hunnit provat dom en natt men packat för en vecka kan man säga med tält, matlagningsgrejer, kläder och annat. Var lite av ett test. Dom funkar som förväntat kan man säga. Kvalitén känns väldigt bra och för äventyrsresor på grus och offroad är dom nog helt suveräna. Tyvärr kommer jag nog inte göra så mycket sånt framöver utan hålla mig på asfalten på längre touringresor så får se om jag säljer dessa, känns dumt att dom bara blir liggandes. Men är du ute efter mjuka väskor av denna typen så kan jag helt klart rekommendera dom.

    I don’t understand the road. It’s two way traffic but there’s no center line. Are all small roads in Sweden like this?

      Yes. There is not much traffic on roads like this and if you meet someone there is places that is a bit wider for meeting or if there is room you just go out to the Right as far as possible.

    Appreciate the video and good job. Have to say, it's not a good example about the torque & vibrations... Just the wrong gear for the given speed. You have the same problem in anything with a trans and an engine. BTW, the BMW engine has all the character of a tractor or pencil sharpener (take your pick) :)

      Yes i am aware that i could shift down but the video is a comparison between the two bikes and one of them can ride very low rpm's the other can,t.. I have seen other testriders that have complained about the same thing so i am not alone with that.. Also it is a matter of getting used to it ofcourse and i am sure anyone having the KTM for a while would not see it as a problem.. But to be fair i have tried the 1290 2 more times since that and for some reason it was not as bad those times so maybe it was that bike in particular, still no way close to the BMW but anyway a bit better... I tried the Tiger 1200, The Multistrada V4S (wich is a hot contender for a bike change for me) and a couple of other bikes and all has been a little better for higher gears in low speed than the KTM.. Still the Joy-Factor of the KTM is a winner hands down. :)

      @@Swedeonamotorcycle appreciate the response and I agree all around. The ducati would be insane fun with the v4S but that comes at a premium even beyond the bmw. I haven’t ridden one yet but like what I see so far.

      @@freidrichnietzsche6643 It is super, The KTM feels a little bit more "crazy" but the Ducati has pretty much as good comfort as the BWM but alot more fun to ride on road.. The BMW would probably be better offroad though... But the negative thing with Ducati except the Price to buy it is the Fuel consumtion. Usually i dont care about that on a bike but for the Ducati it is just a bit to high.. almost 20% higher than my BMW becomes alot in the long run.. But except for that a great bike and not as common as the GS-Cow so still not out of the game if i will swap bike. :)

      No, just that I forgot to change. Done some offroad before and like the Rallye seat for that.. I usually have a Wunderlich for longer rides..

    I tried one here in Denmark, what do they cost in Sweden? Here they are 330ish 000 kroners, without panniers. Also thought the quick shifter was great ,altho,, whilst riding around in 2nd gear, the bike just kept going, felt like a very high revs, so the bike was almost like an automatic bike. Still all in all, if I did not have a GSA I might have considered it, but have a GSA,..

    I purchased a tiger rally pro in April and had the same problem with the gear change. I adjusted the gear lever to max and removed the rubber pegs. Problem solved. It takes a little getting used to the snatch in the drive chain, but it certainly has got better and smoother with use.

    I've been out and metaldetacting 2 times now. I was out prospecting today and found some big pieces of cheramics on the surface that looked really old, could be a really interesting place to try searching at. Sidenote: A farmer found a chest with 4 kg of silvercoins, jewelry etc. on a field in 1908 approximately 2 km from my house. It turned out to be a viking treasure from 1100 AD

    Bloody hell, I can even hear the snatchy on/off throttle response, the transmission/drive shaft as a result is very clucky! Definitely not as smooth as a Beemer. I think you were in Road Mode according to the picture in the TFT screen, probably Sport mode is even more snatchy.

      It depends how you ride it, but yes if you jerk the throttle it feels snatchy. It also doesn’t feel soft if it’s in sport mode.

      I rode one off-road for the day at the triumph off-road centre and by the end of the day I didn’t find it snatchy at all. Must have changed the way I used the throttle. Found the vibes intrusive compared to my gen 2 tiger 1200 will need to take one on the road for a long trip to decide if I can deal with the vibes!

      The problem you had with the down shift is the big boots you were riding with. I bought the rally pro in April and had the same problem. I removed the rubber from the pegs and adjusted the shifter. Problem solved. Great bike.

    You are right about the knee angle on the KTM but isn’t that a simple fix by just remove the rubber inserts (10mm or so) and/or install lower footpegs? Then add a std height PP Ergo seat (+ 20mm in compare to stock 1 piece R seat) and you got comfort all day long! In my opinion engine/gearbox/qs on the KTM is way better dan the Beemer.. So just get that f*cking Orange Beast! 😆

      I have considered that also, don't know if you seen my other video where I mention the lower pegs.. Dont want to get a higher seat because I want a little more ground contact when driving with pillion or full luggage... I think the Engine is more fun if you drive fast and "active" but the BMW is better for every day use but the Quickshifter is as you say way better. The QS on the BMW is very clunky between 1 and 2 and also a little between 3-4.. And I already had an Orange (actually it was black) beast whith my 1290 SAS.. 😃

      @@Swedeonamotorcycle I went from an 1190 to a 2018 GSA. I agree that the BMW is a more refined bike and the better road bike. But I miss the animalistic power and character of the KTM and I'm not very refined anyway, so I'm looking to go back to KTM on a 1290 R.

      @@mattyr987 Well if you like it i say go for it.. It does have more character than the BMW. I tried the Multistrada V4s and really liked it so maybe I will get that, Will see in the summer.. Was told by a guy in "the business" to wait for 1300GS cus it will be a big upgrade from the 1250 but not sure what to do yet....

    Jag har bara kollat på en tuareg, men jag tyckte den såg liten ut jämfört med Teneren? T7an är en väldigt enkel hoj, det gillar jag med den :-)

      Jag tror det är många som gillar att den inte har all elektronik, själv gillar jag det, speciellt farthållare och quickshifter och jag tror det kommer finnas på Worls Raid när den kommer så den blir spännande.. . Dom sa att T7 var Sveriges tredje mest sålda hoj förra året så det säger ju något. 🙂

      Like music to the Ears,.... It's like putting a 60 cc Cylinder with a 17mm Carburetor instead of 50cc with 12mm carb and removing the airfilter on my Moped when i was 15 years old.... 🙂

      😃 Just nu känns BMWn bäst för det jag använder hojen till men dessa "provkörningar" ger väl kanske inte hela sanningen.. Imorgon ska jag prova Tiger 1200 Rally pro på riktigt och sen förhoppningsvis blir det provkörning av Ducati Desert X i början av Juni.. Aprilia 660 Tuareg är riktigt bra men då kanske jag får dra ner en aning på Europaresor och köra mer Offroad istället och det vet jag inte om jag vill.. 😉

      That is why it's not a review.. :) Just a short test with some likes and dislikes to see what bike is worth a real longer test... And so far i really like the Tiger 1200 Rally Pro and tje Aprilia Tuareg.... Also tje Ducati Desert X will be tested "for real" even though i was not able to try it there..

      Ja det blev lite trångt ibland... Men är den nån hoj man är intresserad av så känner man fort om det är värt att göra en riktig provkörning vid ett senare tillfälle eller om man känner direkt att det inte är nått som är aktuellt.. Kommer själv prova Tiger Rally pro "på riktigt" snart och även Aprilia 660 Tuareg som jag gillade mycket.. Och Ducati Desert X som tyvärr inte fanns med här trots att man kunde boka provkörning med den..
