    I'm not sure we can make an analogy using the term 'animal brain' with having emotions of shame and disgust. I think it's called the reptilian brain rather than animal (which infers mamillian), because we are animals.

    Everyone calls it "PTSD" - I don't! I call this phenomenon "PTS" because in my view the "D"-part of it neither stands for "disease" nor for "disorder" or anyting like it! From what I can say about it - and I used to teach it until in 2020 my listeners suddenly weren't 'allowed' to breathe freely (...) and I defenitively don't speak in front of people who are not allowed to pump enough fresh oxygene into their brains ...(!) - this ominous "D" is nothing like a *"necessary biological reaction"* to an experienced trauma! Iow, the brain's reaction to a trauma is a very healthy event - almost a bit 'too healthy', like a smoke detector that does not only respond to the smoke from a burning carpet but also to the smoke coming from a cigarette in an ashtray underneath!

    • @beaconspsychologyservice6392
      @beaconspsychologyservice6392 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, the animal brain is a way of referring to the structures of the brain close to the spinal cord which regulate agitation across the body; most importantly in this video fight/flight and threat response agitation. You can find out more from my videos on Biological Aspects of PTSD if you follow the channel link.
