It is a tool that does not work by itself, but needs a team effort of testers. Dr. Lee Martinez takes you step by step using his ancestors and team of people that ...

มุมมอง 1.5K4 ปีที่แล้ว
A presentation on indigenous people of mixed tribal origins who entered colonial Spanish society as captives taken during wars with Utes, Apaches, Comanches, Kiowas, Navajos, and Pawnees. Today the persistence of Genízaro identity blurs the lines between Native and Hispanos. This is the first study to focus exclusively on the detribalized Native experience of the Genízaro in New Mexico.

มุมมอง 5K7 ปีที่แล้ว
Brent Alexander Cruz speaks about how he broke the genealogical brick wall of Capitan Francisco Montes Vigil (born 1666) extending his ancestry to great historical figures such as William I, King of England, Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar, better known as "El Cid", Charlemagne and many other notables of history. The book has genealogy charts with extensive sources and a bibliography of where he did his ...
Up the Spanish Empire and Catholic Church! Arriba el Imperio Español! Viva Cristo Rey!! 🇪🇸 ✝️ ❤️
Pretty much everyone who’s Hispanic in New Spain has both Spanish and Native American ancestors. This was the policy of the Spanish crown and Catholic Church since 1521!
Most Dominguez people from New Mexico are related to the Tome Dominguez de Mendoza family that arrived in New Mexico from Mexico in the mid 1600’s
Great turns out I'm a descendant of a blakes lottaburger

Hispanics having the Surname Bethencourt can trace themselves back to the earliest Kings of the HRE, France, England, Flanders, Burgundy, Bretany.
To Mr. Esquivel :regarding Juan Lopez Holguin and Catalina Villanueva- my ancestres was Ana Holguin born in Santa Fe NM circa 1610 ( today Sept 11, 2024 , ) I have my genealogy research in storage , however she married a Varele male- Catalina Villanueva claimed that she was the “ mother” of my ancestress Ana Holguin, however, I always wondered about my maternal line not been from Catalina Villanueva . A few years ago I did my maternal DNA with family Tree DNA and I I am B4--- (34%Native American”, ) per genealogist, Henrietta Martinez Christmas , I have matches to Pueblo Native American that she has had tested - The females stated to Henrietta that they belonged to the “ Zia Clan”. I may very likely be a descendant of the same Native Women “ mother of Christobal Holguin. “. I am a member of New Mexico Genealogical Society, Sandoval County Historical Society and other NM Genealogical groups. Mr. Esquivel if you wish to contact me, please answer this comment information and include an email address and I will contact you My married surname is WEST, however, my entire family are New Mexican. Sincerely, Leone Mida West. Thank you for this very important, informative video. 🙏
JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE A SPANISH SUR NAME DOESNT MEAN YOUR SPANISH AMERICAN. OR MEXICAN..
Very interesting, I am Spanish and part of my family moved to Cuba in the early 1700’s.

SERRANO 11:20
I wonder if Blas Martin Serrano of New Mexico born in 1677 is related to me? I have alot of Serrano's in my line going back to 1600
The conversos, this is not mentioned?
Why would the converso Jews need to be mentioned in a discussion about mixed natives?
Francisco Montes Vigil was my 9th Great-Grandfather. I would like to buy a copy of this book.
Thank you y muchas gracias Jose et al for doing all this work! I have been searching for my family info on this side until recently has been a huge mystery. I am excited to visit NM soon! I will say to someone's comment - my ancestor is not showing my full native American, Spanish or Mexican dna which is disappointing but I would like to try to join the NMGS project.
I’m so glad I found this. My name is Nathaniel Luján/ Mestizo my family originated from New Mexico and from what I’ve found is they all lived in the La Canada, San Juan rio arriba area. I’m stumped on my family. The name I’m stumped on is Lucas Lujan, father of Damacio lujan who then was the father of candelario Lujan. I need help finding this line. Also the atencio and Torres lines both born in nm but marriage was in southern Colorado el grita I think. Where can I find this info
The famous Geronimo a great uncle
This is absolutely wonderful! I'm glad to hear these women's stories, especially as a fellow Hispanic woman veteran from the Southern Colorado area. These women paved a way for me and many others!
Where to buy
I also want you to know that after the Queen Isabella kicked out the Arab mores from Spain that's how Spain became an empire. They kicked out the Arabs they had this inquisition. They were the first nation to know to have a gun. Yes this is true. When they came unlike the pilgrims they came with animals they came with more food. To build and stay longer. They came with the best men that they could. But what's even more interesting is some of the medicinal things that they brought with them. But to this day and after Queen Isabella everybody in every other household in Europe the ruling governments wanted to intermarry with Queen Isabella's children. So our Spanish DNA lives on in pretty much every royal household to this day. I want to thank Mr Cruz for the research he did. It got me to read as much as I could for several years. Including reading things out of Spain and Europe and learning all of this. When people put down us Hispanics here in this country remind yourself this is what we are descendant from this is what we formed this is what we created. We know that there's the dark side to what the Spanish did. But our DNA was what's the most powerful government on the planet. So much so that all these people wanted to marry within the Spanish homes. King Henry the 8th married one of her granddaughters of Queen Isabella. When she could not produce a child he did not kill her like he did his other wives. He was afraid to inflict the wrath of Spain upon his nation. About that one for a moment. But remember this. Until 1957 Hispanics were not allowed to vote in this country. Last group of people to be allowed to vote. It wasn't until the civil rights laws and a Hispanic lawyer from Texas that challenged this in the Supreme Court did our families get the right to vote. That's why many of your grandparents and great grandparents did not speak about politics because they weren't allowed to be involved with it. And that's your American history for the day. But Hi Cousins there's a lot of us.
I will finally add this the knighthood that our ancestors the vigil family began is called the order of Santiago. If you are a descendant of this person we all come from an esteemed family and an esteemed history.
So if you do more digging and try to reach out to this gentleman who wrote the book but I talked to the historian for the state of New Mexico. Names on their period but not everybody gets to access them. However one of the things you need to know is this too our family the vigils that literally means watchmen in Spanish were one of the 1st nights in all of Europe. That there is a knighthood that still exists from this and it's been in existence for hundreds of years.
And finally here's a wave to all of you cousins
I am a descendant of these people. To call you about two years ago after I spoke to the historian of New Mexico. This is so fascinating. So you have to know when New Mexico when it was newsfeed became part of the United States I recently learned that the Americans made the Spanish women drop their second name. So that's why it went from Montez Vigil to just playing vigil. Just playing vigil. That's supposed to be pla ym. There are some Valdez's related to this and Herrera
By the way anyone know where I can get a good replica of a Spanish sword when I was younger I remember one of my relatives used to have a helmet of a conquistador and a sword. I think it was my grandma. And now I think I know where it came from. You walked in the house there was two pictures of Jesus and I think Mary was on the other side with the lights you know what I'm talking about the crosses and then he walked in and where we hung our coats that little entryway there was this armor.
My long jokes that were pretty much all related to everybody in New Mexico if they're native or Hispanic because they're really all one of the same. But you know while the rest of the world was still trying to figure out how to get across the Atlantic our ancestors were already sitting in the new world building schools hospitals canals. Building important things that people still make till this day. That's something that's we have to promote more of you know something to be proud of. Even on the native side they built those elaborate prabos the big chimneys. Canyon. When part of the world was still leaving with dirt and mud floors our ancestors were building high rises LOL.
lol..The more I learn I too feel like Im related to everyone in New Mexico. S
Anyone from New Mexico doesn't think that they're more native than they are is delusional. There are some more Spanish family lines but eventually over time they made it with other people. When they did the DNA in our families first and aunt then more cousins. We knew it that we were mostly Spanish and that there was native DNA in there. So there was no big surprise this. The ad mixtures that they have in there there were some surprises the one that's Far East. And sub Saharan Africa but there were slaves and there were free black men that came. And there were Asians that came sometimes as well. But when people ask me what we are now because of the dna test I simply say take a look at my face I am literally the mixture of all the dominant races on the planet. And I had one person say even black I says even black. I get funny looks on that one. It's true but what I find really interesting about this is how much the percentage of Spanish DNA is now in a lot of people in modern New Mexico when they were raised as Spanish spoke Spanish or they were native. Because according to research I was looking at from the Max Planck Institute and I think the National Geographic people who've been testing DNA as well we in New Mexico that have more Spanish DNA have more Spanish DNA now than those living in modern day Spain. But like I said many of us knew that we were mixed.. I mean I asked this just came before even the English came.
DNA CAN MANUPALATED.. DNA IS BS
New Spain included Filipinas (the Philippines) and we also got around 200,000 African slaves. It makes sense. The Spanish empire was open minded and legalized interracial marriage since 1521. We were ahead of the Anglos by around 450 years.
@LewisC-t1f Spanish women kid get a divorce going back over a thousand years in Spain before they came here so when Republicans say let's use old laws I said yes please let's use the Old colonial Spanish laws. Because they gave women rights to property. One of the biggest land grants ever was called the Elena g a l l e g o s land grant and it was granted in New Spain when women in the rest of the United States at the time women in the US part of North America cannot own property in their own name or inherited in Spanish women could and what's now Mexico and the entire west. That's why they used to make fun of Spanish women are on TV they say oh that lady she's hot-headed because a woman could do pretty much what a man could do in the New Spain world but even an old Spain women could still own land and they were Queens
Gracias for a very interesting series about yDNA. I have Norwegian viking blood, but I hope this information will help me find the biological father of my 5th grand father.
"Indians?" Which Indians? Apache, Ute, Navajo or any of the dozens of bands associated with those tribes? Indians! Gad!
Which Spanish?? Galicians? Andalusians? Castilians? Asturians? Etc etc
Until today
Does anyone know if he has his own YT channel?
How do I submit my family’s DNA for this project? My ancestors are from New Mexico and I recognize some names from my family tree
Which project are you wanting to join? There are several.
Stop opening uo for questions till the end.
I'm fascinated with the Caceres surname in New Spain, I wonder if Juan Ruiz de Caceres was related to the prgenitor of the Casares surname in north Mexico/Texas?
How about the Comanche people In Mora, N.M.? Do you know if they were friends or captives? I think I'm well mixed, Several kinds of N.m Nativrs. I am mixed. Yes, I am . But. Question what? I have JESUS.
I've read that Juan Bartholome Dominguez de Mendoza was the father of Juana Dominguez. Has anyone else found this information?
Is part 2 available on video?
North african genetic markers are not something alien to Iberian Peninsula, being present in that region since very very ancient times. North Africans today changed their genetic composition since antiquity, and if you want to know how north africans looked like, just search for reconstructions, and descriptions of guanches from the Canary Islands. North African genes are caucasian genes. I strongly disagree with the notion that Iberians were "already mestizos", just because they had north african ancestry (most Iberians have very few of it, and the maximum number is around 10-15%), but regardless I think it is unwise to assume that those genes present in Iberia are from "another race".
A huge part of Canary Islands have North African dna. It makes sense for many of us in New Spain to have it also.
I'd love to find out which 27.3% Native American I belong to
Omg Same here, just did DNA test, I'm direct Bloodline to Cristobal Dominguez, Manuel Dominguez
Bunch of wannabe Indian garbage. If you know so much about the Spanish colonial times, why don't you ever discuss the time period after Oñates arrival, and before the revolt. You hypocrites always forget that time period, yet complain about New Mexicans forgetting their cultura, and where they come from. Not to mention the 18th century which is never important to you. Plenty of Spaniards, and new names came in through those times, but of course it's not important to you because it doesn't fit your liberal bullshit lies of being more indigenous. You are a disgrace to New Mexico and it's heritage.
Is the book still for sale? I’m unable to order it online and wasn’t sure if it was printing or not.
I can’t reach anyone for the book
@@darkoverlord3000 same here. It is integral for my family history so I will search for however long it takes.
Francisco Montes Vigil is my 9th Great Grandfather. I want to purchase this book. Queen Isabella is my 16th G-Grandmother and King Ferdinand is my G-Grandfather.
Thanks for your hard work. I am related to Amanda Vigil and have many Vigil matches on my DNA test.
Does anyone think we need to start a roundup every year. "Francisco íVigilantes
Why don't write in a right way the spanish names? If you want honoring your ancestor's history respect names properly.
I don't know how to tell you this but the names we spell here in the United States are spelled differently in Spain. A lot of the names are changed. There's AV might have been AB or if you go to Spain you will not hear the name Martinez there's no easy on the names. That was added when they came to the New World. For a long time if you were born in Spain for example you were considered a Spaniard. You're born in the United States with Spanish DNA we were called Spanish. So the names change over time for various reasons. They're going
Thank you I am learning about my own ancestry.
Please post the links to the first two parts. I have searched for part 1 but TH-cam search is not finding it.
Serious question. Why doesn't the government fund some sort of universal census where everyone takes a test? How great would that be for some big global event.
