👍 As a 70ish y.o. lifetime🏅Elton fan, Brandi’s and ALL other artist’s covers from this ‘Kennedy’ concert were 👏 excellent imho! I thought 🎸Davey Johnson didn’t show the same enthusiasm here and in other performances that he does when he’s with Elton. Brandi did a 🌟wonderful vocal interpretation in spite of the song being somewhat out of her usual style.

Brandi's description of her parents disdain for Elton John is the same as the way my mom felt about Rod Stewart. I was all of 10 singing ain't love a bitch and da ya think I'm sexy. She haaaated it. At one point I backtracked and found Rod's version of twisting the night away. And Sam Cooke was my mother's verrrry favorite. I brought it to her not knowing that it was a Sam Cooke song, just thinking she'd like it..and I always did feel the need to convince her that i wasnt going straight to hell before I even knew what those songs were about. We listened to Rod, and then she said yep that's pretty good. I got one for you too and then pulled out her Sam Cooke record with the original. And we both had to meet in the middle that day. Years later she grew to really enjoy Rod, esp his numerous Sam Cooke covers and his American songbook material, she also liked songs like forever young and you're in my heart. It's cool how music can define generations but can also bridge them. Esp when artists and or their legacy endure a really long time.
